In conclusion, there is no substitute for the SARB as we already knew of course...
Unfortunately it really seems like you don't understand why people liked that watch in the first place, I only got less than halfway through your video but, you just don't get it lol There are a lot of great watches you could recommend but, what you do recommend 🤦🏼♂️ Nothing against quartz either, some of my favorite is watches are quartz.
Well this video confirmed that I am definitely going to buy a SARB. These alternatives are not even close save for the SARX, but that's just a matter of taste.

Take a look at the Orient Star RE-AU0004B00B or the Tissot Couturier to me although they have differences, they have an amazing presence like the Sarb.
is this guy serious? he starts of with pagani??? what a joke
SUR307, 309 are also really good! Got mine for 120$. For me the SARX lacks lume so that's a dealbreaker. SUR3XX, toss the factory bracelet and get a decent oyster bracelet.. 150$ all in and you get a killer watch.
Bought and sold my SARB035. Was a great Sunday watch for me. I've seen (dubious) evidence that people are paying $5k (yes, 5000 usd) or are prepared to pay $4k + for used SARB037's. Personally I think its rediculous. These folks are forgetting some simple factors: 1) the SARBs were dressy tool watches. 2) the 6r15D movements were never really perfect. 3) the original RRP wasn't much over $350. I get that some folks want clout. I think these prices are actually being artificially inflated by unscrupulous flippers. I wouldn't be surprised if some folks have just redialed a SARB033/035. If you told me that my $300 sports watch was now worth $5k to some rich idiot by virtue of the fact it is was pink. I'd consider it despite not being proud of that fact.. For me discontinued Seikos are not worth their retail price anymore. The movements have been upgraded (although I think the 6r35 is frankly lazy) and the supply of new watches is decent. You shouldn't need to spend at or above retail on any Seiko that isn't an LE. That's my two cents anyway, sorry for being to thale party. Nice video Josh!
Bought mine just before they were discontinued. Always wanted a 035 but not at today’s prices.

The sarb033, 035, and 017 are hyped for good reason. These are readily available around 4-600 every day and I 100% believe even at that price these sarbs are worth that price. I agree the Oceanus is a good competitor for the sarbs, but at the end of the day none of the others you recommend come close to the sarb’s. Comparing quartz and autos can’t be done in my Opinion
Man I’d rather have a Sarb033 over any of those pos watches you named aside from the Oceanus…
@HorologyinSanity

Sounds like the SARB033 might be a good pick for you then.
As someone who owns both the SARB033 and SARB035, I agree with this video. I bought my SARBs way before they were discontinued and therefore worth the price. But the current prices are just crazy. If I were to buy a SARB alternative today, I'd go with either a SARX or even the SNKL23.
@HorologyinSanity

Some folks think I'm crazy, but it just is what it is. Thanks for sharing your experience with them too.
I knew I should have turned off the video after the first two examples 😂 all these watches are butt ugly, have totally different aesthetics or just plain incomparable. Sorry to be harsh, but this was total clickbait for me
You clearly didn't understand exactly the SARB033 appeal. the only one close is Orient Star RE-AU0004B
After all these, you convinced me: I will choose the sarb033 !!!! the sarx is bigger, I'd say yes for the Oceanus... The only watch that can stand worthily against sarb033, is the Orient star re-au0004b00b.
You definitely don't understand watches... Casio G-shock protection....come on man.....that watch belongs to 80's....the design of Sarb033 rock that's why people love it and want it.
I went with the sarx045, job done ✌🏽
I disagree, the sarb033 punches well above it’s weight class. Ultimately, this is why Seiko discontinued it. I would say the only watch I would recommend is the Seiko Alpinist.
@HorologyinSanity
2 жыл бұрын
I do love me some Alpinists! Good call.
Just 1:30 into the video and I completely agree. It is an amazing watch but the used market is ridiculous. I will never get rid of my Sarb035. It is a cult classic now.
The SARX is far better.
SARX lineup was the only one that is a true SARB alternative. Some of those watches you put up are horrible as well. SARB is loved due to how classy it looks due to all parts used and design being perfect or close to it for a watch it that category.
Great video, but I've got to say that your Tissot pick ain't it for me. Instead, if you want something like the Sarb033 or Sarx045, for around $750, you can't beat the Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80. I know you mentioned Tissot's Powermatic 80 watches in general, but not only is the Gentleman very similar stylistically to the Sarb033 (and Sarx045) it also includes an upgraded Powermatic 80 Silicium, with a Silicon hairspring for improved anti-magnetism and accuracy. There's also a quartz model, if you like the Sarb033/Sarx045 design, but don't like automatic movements.
Seiko SARX035 is the best alternative.
@NatiiixLP
2 жыл бұрын
Sure, but it's absolutely humongous compared to the SARB033 and the cheapest I can find still costs more than what the SARB033 is going for on the second-hand market.
If Seiko brought out a 38mm black dial SARX, they could sell as many as they could build at $700 to $900.
Nothing in this video beats the SARB, you know it, I know it, everyone knows it :)
This is great but I think for a watch to be a Sarb Alternative it has to be 38mm or smaller. That is one of the defining features that people love so much about the sarb is that it is small with a small lug to lug. Still I love some of your picks.
@HorologyinSanity
2 жыл бұрын
That's a great point. I don't notice the size as much because of my larger wrist, but you're right, it's a significant factor for most people shopping for a SARB.
What do you think about the SCVS003 Spirit Seiko instead of the SARB033
I have the same Citizen perpetual calender watches. I love it bit setting it was a pain to set but great watch. And yes, it is solar powered.
What about Certina? They have a lot of similarly styled options in both quartz and automatic movements in that $250-$400 range. You should check them out!
@HorologyinSanity

Certina is definitely a good recommendation! I've not experienced any of their watches in person, but hopefully I'll change that someday soon.
Sooo… a year later and the sarb033 has appreciated by more than double.
that Zelos is a real beauty IMHO, as is the Oceanus (and the G-Shock too hehe) great list Josh, thanks !

I have 3 (all?) of the Casios, & a sarb035 ( not as loved). The only (big) issue with the Oceanus is the properietry bracelet. However, with the stainless steel Oceanus ( er, different - not as alluring-designs & heavier) it's possible to change straps.
Mate! What the actual fuck!?
What about seiko sur375 ? And do u have review video for it ?
What is the colour and brand of this NATO strap? 3:45
I have both the SARB033 and 035 and love them. I agree that the prices for them have gotten out of control since they've been discontinued, especially the much more popular 033. Another good alternative is the Seiko SZSB011 to 014. Very similar to the SARBs, though a bit larger at 40 to 41 mm case size. They can be found at Sakura watch for around $300, which appropriate given they have the lesser 4R35 movement.
@HorologyinSanity

That is another fantastic recommendation! Thanks for replying and mentioning it. I may need to order one so I can do a video comparing them side-by-side.
best and funniest watch reviewer 😊
sarb033 ticks all my boxes but thank god that casio (mtp1370l-1a) at 3:23 really looks promising at good price. that casio efv110 looks more like sarb033 in case shape and dial.
The only real alternative that gives the same feeling as the SARB and isn’t Chinese or quartz is the SARX

@@respectablylate3081 Thanks for watching and commenting. 225 watches is a legit collection! I dig it! I personally like the variety that a large collection offers. It's often debated how many watches someone should have... and I always go back to the sentiment, "You do you, boo boo" (meaning, I think everyone should do what they want to do, as long as it's not hurting anyone else). Do you enjoy having a large collection too?
Have a tissot gentlemans powermatic 80, szsb011, SARB017, and a spb111. Only mentioned the spb111, as I got that for less money than I would spend on an 033. Same for the 017. I think if you can deal with the 40 mm, the gentlemans is a real nice buy, and you can get them reasonably 2nd hand, as they are not appreciating like the SARB line.

@Tyler-sl6vg

@@HorologyinSanity Sure. That sarx035 definitely has a nicer bracelet which is really important to me but ultimately I found it a bit too angular. I also have switched my sarb033 onto a ginault ocean rover bracelet for its final form which is fantastic with the glide lock. The sarx also has a great crystal (completely disappears) and a very nice dial. I think what throws me off about it however is the proportions. Where the sarb has a stout bezel and some nice case overhang I find the sarx has a thin bezel, large face and the 40+ mm diameter is a little much for the 20mm bracelet width. It might come down to me just liking a everyday / dressy watch at well under 40mm. Sarx035 at the end of the day is beautiful and I would easily recommend it but the sarb is my fav. (Btw I paid under 500 cad 5 years ago however!)

I agree, on all points. And, I always think quartz is a viable option, although I do enjoy having all types of different movements in my collection and in rotation. My most favorite is actually hand wound mechanical (aside from my 5610BA G-Shock, hahaha).
It’s all about the lines and the finish on the 033. It’s very much a baby GS. The SARX line just isn’t. I own the SARY057 which is the 033’s bigger cousin with a day complication. I’m happy with it. Yes the movement is older but mine runs -3s/day. Hard to beat

wut the heal?
The SARX should be the right choice, the other watchers may going down to half of the price unless you buy a used one, the Sarb033 should be around $600 I will say, Seiko keep making bigger and bigger watchers to day, forget some people have small hand.
It's almost like the skx craze. People buying a 400$ skx when they can go buy a king turtle for 300$+ or a Sumo for that same range 400$. The same can be said with sarb, good 350$ watch but not at over $500. Get a Sarx instead,.i bought a new enamel.dial spb091for 700$ which blows rhe sarb out of the water.
