  • @wchenful

    @wchenful

    2 ай бұрын

    I understand just fine. Let's say you add one alpha underground sea to your deck, a gem mint one is valued at 25k+. So now you have a 25k regular casual deck with one imba land. The vast majority of games, you won't have it in your opening hand - hence it hasn't really increased the power level of your deck significantly. Drawing your alpha duel in later turns (lets say 3+) isn't that relevant since it's main strength is in mana-fixing. And since we already have watery grave and triomes as fetch targets, it's not essential. Tabernacle is a different issue: it's only good when you're playing a prison strategy which obviously Richard isn't since that would be unfun to watch a 10k prison deck. You would also need ways to tutor out the tabernacle early and mana denial. Instead, they're playing a meta where the board gets wrathed t5-7 anyway so tabernacle is largely irrelevant - and post wrath, the upkeep isn't very significant. Now Gaea's Cradle is very different in this context: you can draw it post t5 and it will almost always net you a huge surge of mana - and given the lack of land destruction and the low density of wraths, probably for the rest of the game. Add in some minor untap synergies and mana sinks and that's game.

    It's kinda crazy how hard they went after Phil when Seth, Crim, and Richard were all popping off. No one ever allied themselves with Phil, instead it always seemed like they were all allied against Phil even after he was put back into the stone age. Might want to take a look at your alliances as it always seems like Phil gets the short end of the stick, and he seems like he is too nice to really fight back against it.

    It's not logical this game, but they talk a lot about how Phil often plays very strong "pop-off" decks (opposite of Crim--no interaction, all gas). However by their podcast logic, this season they should be ganging up on Mr. "Open The Way" Seth, but I guess he isn't playing green this week?

  • @kylegonewild

    @kylegonewild

    What are you talking about? Before the Ondu Phil was leagues ahead of everyone else and it's a token value deck that can rebuild faster than stuff like mill. Not to mention he essentially halved the entire rest of the table's life. Game's gotta end eventually, players gotta be knocked out or lose. It's one thing to be nice to someone who was mana screwed all game or had bad draws that put them far behind, it's quite another to just let the person who was winning for the first half of the game sit quietly untouched for a chance to turn it around. I do agree there have been some vibes based team-ups every so often that aren't judging threats at all but honestly, if Phil sat down across from me with one of his actual "I built this for me and I play it" paper decks there would be no mercy.

    When one player demonstrates both the ability to present a lethal threat in a single turn AND recover from a board wipe just as quickly, it naturally happens. The problem wasn't that Phil was targeted, it was that Richard never was. Threat assessment has always been a major weakness they all have in their games, but there's also a reason for that. If threats are always properly assessed by every player, the game takes longer to finish.

    Das wäre so witzig, wenn Phil und Georg (der deutsche Freund vom Professor) bei "shuffle Up and play" eine komplette deutsche folge machen würden und alle müssten mit deutschen Decks spielen 😄 It would be so funny if Phil and Georg (The German friend from Prof) would make a German episode on "shuffle up and play" and everybody had to play with German decks 😅

    At this point I have to wonder if Crim and Richard are just hardwired to always aim everything at Phil no matter if he's a threat or not. He was not doing anything for four or five turns and yet they went after him. Ugh...leaves a bit of a sour taste to see. Was fun seeing so differently budgeted decks though.

    Phil constantly plays "remove this or I win the game" cards with no interaction. At some point it's his fault if he keep getting killed because people are afraid of the value he generates. Also, he had a 1,000$ combo deck and that's the kind of deck that can win at any time with no warning

    Kambal does go infinite with your opponents croaking counterpart, since the newly created frog tokens would be able to trigger each other

    So Seth was inadvertently playing his commander wrong, and understandably so as a lot of effects work as it was being played as opposed to how it is worded. You don't drain per token you drain per instance of one or more tokens entering the battlefield. Make a million treasure tokens at once that's 1 damage but trigger an infinite to make a single token over and over again each one will drain. I learned this when I was playing dagger burn with Kambal on arena It took me a bit to notice it to I kept thinking I was missing one or two damage until i finally realized. Still a great card though.

    I love Kambal. Been playing him in Brawl on Arena and the matchmaker keeps matching me against token decks like every other game lmao. Wish we had some more of the give-your-opponent-tokens cards on Arena.

    Creatures revived with Victimize come into play TAPPED, Seth kinda cheated (missplayed in his favor, hehe) on that one, and it was relevant because he immediately blocked Paco with one of the revived creatures. Also, when he created the angel tokens, I think the tokens are create right before his creatures come to play with the victimize, so he wouldn't be able to drain life, but I'm not so sure on that one.

    The thing that gave everyone else angel tokens is a trigger so it would technically not even go onto the stack until Victimize had finished resolving as the sacrifice is part of the resolution of the spell, not an additional cost.

    That's one thing with a meta most expensive deck out of your pod or group. They are going to pop off and have any reaction and longevity longer than the cheap decks. I've got a 700 shrine deck it stomps my group and in the game stores even in the game stores.

    @Seth, I asked my judge buddy Xander, and Kambal, should be creating the same amount of tokens that any opponent cards would create in a single instance each turn, i.e. Dockside creates 10 treasures on the opponents side, then Kambal player also creates 10 treasures during that instance, due the text on Kambal "for each of them", only reason I say this I kept hearing you say it only creates one token, just throwing that out there.

    Richard's deck wasn't really a lot stronger than the others tbh, the $10,000 was mostly spent on reserve list lands. A single gem mint 10 alpha underground sea is $25,000+ atm and it doesn't significantly alter the deck's performance.

    I have a challenge for the clash team. A game where only basic lands are allowed. as we see here, basic land ramp is so efficient--and I have a feeling maybe Richard will be impressed at how fast people ramp up. I love the philosophy that basics aren't good anymore--but I just think that is overblown. I think you do have to have either a deck with basic lands, or a deck with mostly not. But either strategy comes with pluses and minuses.
