Honorable mentions: The Students in Danganronpa that participated in the killing games
Harold’s fate was worse than just being turned into a tree. He had a tree grow out of him. He was exposed to the FEV and ended up becoming Ghoul-like from it, rather than the usual crazy buff super mutant. Over time the tree grew through and around his body, pushing some parts, like his heart away. So he spent years slowly getting his body split apart by a tree that grew to encompass nearly his entire body, trapping him in the sedentary and painful tree life. Poor guy. Edited since he's technically not a ghoul.
@Blasted2Oblivion

And yet I could never bring myself to kill him. His tree getting stronger was good for the world as a whole and since I get to walk away and never think about it again, the choice was super easy.
@randomindividual9338

Almost like the talking tree from Zelda.
@nujevad28
4 жыл бұрын
Technically, Harold isn't a ghoul, but a deformed super mutant. He was exposed to the FEV virus, not radiation. Anyway, all supermutants are prone to cognitive deterioration over time, so leaving him as a tree would only bother him for a few more decades, before he becomes mentally degraded.
@Blasted2Oblivion
4 жыл бұрын
@@nujevad28 The problem with the cognitive degradation idea is that he had the tree with him in Fallout 2 and took place long enough before 3 that the degradation should have taken hold. The fact that it didn't shows that something (either the tree or his unique variation of mutation) is keeping him sane. [edit] I say he had the tree "with him" but in fact by the time you meet him, it had already taken root in his head. Also, their is the fact that he was exposed to the FEV before the events of FO1 which take place roughly 150 years before FO3 so thats even more time for him to have lost his marbles. Full disclosure, I didnt know all of this off hand. I knew enough against your idea to inspire a wiki check.

*Honourable* *mention:* There's this 14 year old PC game called Dungeon Lords. And there's this one area where you have to defeat a mini-boss in order to get some artifact or something. Anyway, you have a limited amount of time to kill him, grab the artifact, and get the hell out of the chamber, because if you don't, you are literally trapped in there for eternity. The only possible option is to restart the whole game if you're trapped, because you can't overwrite a save file, so if you saved *after* defeating the boss (which is the most sensible thing to do in an RPG game) and can't make it out in time, then all of your progress was for nothing. This happened to me a few times before giving up for a year, and then coming back to it a year later only to forget about that one part and have it happen again. Anyway, I eventually made it through.

Asriel didn't watch himself kill anyone in a body that wasn't his, implying this was when he absorbed Chara's soul who then hijacked it. After they set Chara's body down in their home village, Asriel used every ounce of his will to not only stop Chara from murdering everyone, but retrieve the body and return underground all while being attacked by villagers. The torment of being trapped as a memory of what you once were, in a flower that lacks a soul and thus depriving him of any emotion, was pretty awful though.

A lot of people don't see how bad living trapped (albeit safe) and unable to die for all eternity would be. Imagine living a full life where you were unable to speak to anyone, or do anything aside from think. Now imagine that billions of times over, until the end of the universe. It would be so long that human life would seem like an instant. You would spend the first few years wondering how to get out, and regretting every decision that led you up to this point. You would eventually begin to dream, about anything and everything, for hundreds of thousands of years. After millions of years, your brain would have thought of and dreamed every possible thing that it could, and would shut down, and you would live in oblivion until the end of time. A pretty scary concept.
