10 Useful tips to know before traveling to Palau! 🇵🇼
Ойын-сауық
Other things I would like to add adding to tip number 1, is just like the US, we drive on the right side of the road, BUT!!! Most of our cars are Japanese made so our steering wheels are on the right side as well. Another thing is although Palauan is our native language, most people will understand english.
I only listed 2 of the main permits. If you already scheduled your stay with your tour company, they will get your permits ready, but if you are traveling independently, you can pick up your permits at koror state ranger office located in Malakal, koror. You will need these permits to do any water activities. Although if you are planning to go scuba diving, swimming, kayaking in places other than the southern lagoon such as dive spots in Peleliu, you would need a different permit you can get at the Peleliu state office.
In my video I also mentioned MAKIT. A cheaper alternative to eating out in Palau. What is a better way, than to grab food on the go and have a picnic while enjoying the view. Here are my favorite spots to grab makits.
1. Yano’s Market
2. Kings Minimart
3. Save More (cash only)
4. Melias
5. Franco
6. Blue bay gas station (topside location)
7. Blue bay gas station (mid town location)
In tip number 6, I mentioned other activities you could enjoy other than marine activities. It would be easier to explore via rental car since places in Palau are far apart, but if you are not confident to drive up north, it’s ok! Fish n’ Fins, a tour company offers a off roading tour up north. I’ve done this multiple times and had a blast each time. You or a tour guide drive a off roading vehicle up north to a few historical site where the tour guide explains the significance of the site. Have lunch, then end the adventure at a waterfall.
If you are comfortable to drive up north independently, it’s really easy, and you just follow the signs. There are many historical sites. If you visit the office of Palau Visitors Association, they offer maps and can answer any questions on where you want to visit.
In koror there are also museums, the two main ones are Etpison’s museum, and Belau a National Museum. Palau Aquarium where you can learn about native fish and marine creatures.
On Thursdays, there’s a local farmers market located at Ernguul Park right across from Palau Community College.
On Saturday nights you could go to the night market under the Palau and Japan friendship bride, where there are lots of booth vendors that sell food and souvenirs. Also there is live music and dancing.
If you want to check out the night life scene. The Taj, a Indian restaurant turned into a club during the weekends has good music and dancing. Canoe House has live weekends and a fun place to go dancing. Some nights there are live bands at the Drop off and Elilai Seaside dining.

Great video! Sadly, Yano’s Market closed a few months after this video was published. I used to buy my AirTime there because they had it cheaper and I support my family business. Another restaurant to try Palauan Food is Penthouse beside SDA Elementary School in Koror. Try their Taro Bread!
Hello. Thank you for the great video. We will be visiting Palau soon. Could you tell us what you have heard about jellyfish lake presently? We have heard everything from, it's fine! to "no jellyfish". What do you think the status of the lake is?
When did you come? Ahh I wish we met! Glad you had fun! 🇵🇼✌️

What a great video. I think you could make many more as many of us don't know much about your republic. Talk about, history, hotels, restaurants, prices, beaches and so many more things that we would love to know more about.

That’s really sad. I was so excited about jelly fish lake as I’ll be arriving at Palau later this year. Everything I read online so far is you may see one or two gold ones and few white ones. People online are complaining that locals aren’t telling tourists that there is basically no jellyfish in the jellyfish lake. They are still charging $100 for the permit but nothing to show for so to speak. Buyer beware.
0:40 we dont use those

because Palau is free to have their own government, what does politics look like?
