That's one big reason we stopped shopping in the warehouse clubs. We were spending more on groceries because they had so much on sale or cheap.

I very rarely shop at ShopRite anymore. There's a Lidl across the street. I still check the ad, but unless they have a super good deal on meat, I don't bother to go in. As a widow and an empty nester, I don't spend enough to get the free turkey or ham. Plus, a turkey is just too big for me. I'm not a fan of turkey. But, they'll normally have hams on sale then, so I'll buy a couple. Not only does it give me the ham to eat, but I cook up the bone and make soup. I've been leaving extra meat. Gives me enough base for 2 types of soup.

Recently, I've been working on ways to reduce my grocery spending, and as part of a self-check, I did a pantry inventory. I was absolutely floored by the number of complete meals (main, side, bread/starch) that I ALREADY had on hand - yet I'd been visiting the grocery store weekly to buy things. I'm challenging myself to see how long I can go this month without making a trip to the grocery store for anything other than stuff we actually run out of. Once I've done that, I will probably try to use the reverse shopping list method to keep things in check. Thanks for the tips! Edit: apart from some quick trips for milk and eggs, I managed to go almost a whole MONTH without having to do a "real' shop. Going forward, I'm definitely going to try to be more mindful of what we already have before running to the store on a whim.

Great tips. I hate shopping. So I only shop 1x month for freezer, 1x every 3 mths for tins, dried goods, household etc and 1x every 2 weeks for fridge. ...not going to the shop weekly also stops me spending. I cook all meat, especially yellow label as soon as I get home.. eg chicken, mince meat (in microwave), then freeze. When cooking, I cook larger amounts eg fried onion and freeze.. then I have lots of ingredients cooked and ready to throw together into whatever dinner we want to eat. I make a dinner list, but it often changes due to changes in things happening day to day...so I love having cooked prepped ingredients so I can throw multiple different dinners together in 15mins every day.

I do the same with other things frm ketchup to baked beans.

As far as store brands vs. name brand, I save the boxes, containers, etc, of the name brand and transfer the store brand. If you don't tell him, he'll never know! 😂😂😂😂

I've been going on the store app, putting everything in the cart that I need (amounts and all) then I go through the store and delete the item as I pick it up. Along with that I have a calculator out so I add up everything I place in the cart. That helps when you see the item you wanted to get but then you can look just in the immediate area for a better price or quality item. Then whatever you pick up, add it to the total on the calculator and back to the list.

I have 3 laundry baskets in the back of my car. When I unload my cart I put my groceries with or without bags in the baskets. 1) the groceries don't roll around in the back; 2) I can carry the basket (actually I put the basket in my wagon) into the house. 3) I have a basket for cold foods, one for cans and bottles and one for eggs, bread fruit. 4) If I am at a store that doesn't provide bags I just sort my groceries into the baskets. This is a great time saver and prevents damage to cans, etc. I put water and the like in first and the baskets on top. So, also a space saver. Love your video, and subscribed for more. Thanks

All great tips.I will just add that for those who don't drive at night which as you get older and with the new halogen lights becomes a thing. Know that if you shop first thing in the morning a lot of markdowns will still be there. Also stores like Dollar tree dont stay open late so you will find markdowns are completed by about 11 am or noon. So that is a good time to shop at those type of stores. Another tip I can add: only buy numerous amounts of one item if you’re going to eat all of it before it expires. For example, my best friend buys name brand cold cereal when it’s on a deep discount. But, he’ll buy ten big boxes at a time (or over several trips). The problem is, there’s only himself and his son in the house. You just know not everything will get eaten before at least a few boxes expire. Same with Arizona teas in the gallon jugs. Last count, he had 15 in the house. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Granted, some things, like meats, can be frozen, but not those two items.

While I do feel that the apps tend to discriminate against older and/or less tech savvy people, they are very beneficial. I’m a professional reseller and am always surprised at fabulous deals you can find at unconventional places. If totally unsure of the price of an item, I use the Walmart app to scan the bar code or look up the item. So a stores app can be used in other stores for those price comparisons.

I did food inventory yesterday. When I got to the store I bought only the item that I really needed. As for cash payment it is not always possible because most stores here in Sweden are going cashfree.

Amazing Content! Thanks for sharing! I disagree on buying with Cash. I use only credit card wherever i go and get the cash back up to 5 % and make sure that pay off @ end of the month. Also i buy stuff only on sale. I got the app called flipp and all the neighborhood stores will pop up there. If something is really good deal, i stock up. Then i don't have to go to the store and spend the gas money. Mostly I am an Aldi Shopper for groceries and seasonal goods!

Thanks for sharing! Using the credit card or even debit card for cash back deals and stocking up on sales is a great idea! And as long as you're very disciplined, or have a little extra available to spend, it can be a great option.

I save money on fuel (and groceries if needed but usually use it on gas) by getting gift cards (for the stores and food places I'm already planning on going to and have money set aside for) at a local grocery store that offers fuel perks and percentages off of future grocery purchases. The store also has eGift cards for a lot of the places now, so you can save fuel from not having to drive to the store, but still get the points to use towards either future grocery or fuel purchases.

Not so here in mid Missouri looking for mark downs. In several if not all grocery stores her I look for mark downs in the AM, especially meats marked use or freeze today.
