I don't like the harsh feel of a comforter or duvet next to my skin. I have to have a top sheet.

  • @ftumi

    @ftumi

    3 ай бұрын

Wow! I was just asked about this! A non-US living person asked why do people in the US use an upper sheet? My answer was basically a book but, I also thought about the reasons for having a duvet cover.. for example: it's cleaner lol instead of only washing the comforter how many times one does it's certainly not as clean as sheets. I wash my sheets every 4 th day which includes: my duvet cover. Now, I also use a top sheet. But as I was writing answering the question I was thinking about it and you really don't need a top sheet! The duvet cover is basically a top sheet. (Duvet cover=top sheet , comforter=duvet insert or duvet) With this in mind and hopefully you're not flipping and throwing it all around lol😅 meaning the side that's up and not touching your skin isn't flipped around you should be good! Another plus is the time saving of making / not making your bed.... In hotel's they are not using duvet covers (thought about doing this) they're using 2 top sheets! It's basically what a duvet cover is minus the sewing/ closure parts ! Genius! Putting one top sheet where you normally would then the duvet (a couple inches lower then the sheet) then the other top sheet on top of the duvet aligned with it and they flip over the first, top sheet that's now on the bottom. Much easier, time efficient and cleaner seeing that they're ripping off all the sheets and throwing them in the wash everyday. What do you think? @annetteharris8296 ( you) mentioned that you don't like the harshness of the comforter or duvet on your skin. Totally get that and agree. But, that's where the duvet COVER comes into play. If you have a comforter, not a duvet or duvet insert, you must always always always use a top sheet. (Hmmm now I'm thinking putting a duvet cover on an older decorative comforter to keep it clean longer ,save dry cleaning bills! Lol! And yes, that would still need a top sheet though lol) I certainly agree with you but not only for the material the feeling but for cleanliness. Again, This is where the duvet comes in. I wash mine with my sheets. I still use a top sheet out of "that's what you do" and I always buy a top sheet with any I'm buying etc but, logically it's a sheet really (read above) and I now, CONSCIOUSLY, try to forget my top sheet lol. Another thing, I rewatch Ed the sheet part and she says in the layer part , " have a top sheet then quilt or blanket then Duvet then throw" besides her not mentioning the duvet cover I looked closer and she doesn't have one on her duvet. Interesting! Btw 😆 I've seen a couple friend's beds without a top sheet with their thick, decorative comforter and was grossed out! Never did that! It's basically the equivalent of not putting a fitted sheet over your mattress cover lol. Don't get me started on the people that just have their mattress exposed. That's a whole other topic lol it's such a pet peeve I tend to see that in the background of People's selfies online. What do you guys think?

The best scent in every room is the scent of clean. Artificial fragrances--what most people use even when they think they're using 100% natural--are toxic. Even though we feel sick, irritated, or uncomfortable most of the time, it never occurs to most people that their scented candles, sentsy's, sprays, etc. are contributing to both physical & emotional illness.

To find the highest quality product I possibly could, I researched the 40 top rated essential oil producers in six countries. @@saffylllama5609 Most essential oils on the market are adulterated with chemicals or, at the very least, additional oils that are not what you are led to believe you are buying/using. Granted, oil blends are fine as long as you can be certain of what's really inside the bottle. I researched the 40 top essential oil companies in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and France to find the purest essential oils I could before I decided what company I trusted to produce the highest quality essential oils I needed. I've used doTerra essential oils for more than a decade. I've sampled oils from other companies, but they simply don't compare in quality or in integrity.

My mom worked in hotels in the uk before emigrating to the USA. She knew how to make hospital corners. She taught me how to do it. I still make hospital corners bc it makes the bed look made. But some in my home complain they dont like the struggle to free themselves out at the foot of the bed. 😂. Having an organized bed stand is important so you can just get in Bed and relax. I use baskets and I like having a nightstand with drawers to put away eye glasses body lotion tubes pens or books. A suspended light helps keep the top of the night stand free of the lamp. Nice work Kiva! ❤

Couple of points. One tucked sheets make me absolutely insane and it is the thing I hate the most is having to fight to get the covers up. Also I live in Mexico where ten month out of the year a sheet is too hot. I would love some tips for those of us living in a tropical or warm climate. It is typical in Sweden to not sleep with a top sheet and each person has their own duvet the cover gets washed at the same time as the rest of the bedding. I adopted this in Mexico because it is more comfortable during our winter days when I need a comforter. I admit I love the lux look but not practical

  • @BewareTheLilyOfTheValley

I live in Alabama, all of those layers on the bed are a huge nope for me 😂. I intentionally bought just a thin quilt as my blanket because while yes, winters are cold, winter isn't lasting as long as it used to. So, I have more months where it's hot. VERY hot. I'm already using my AC on some days (I need to get some more fans) and it's just early March. We *might* have one last cold snap to end the season but if not, it will not become sweater weather here until probably mid December. The fluffy beds look great, but that just feels like it would make way more laundry, along with the possibility of being way too hot. Sorry, didn't mean for that comment to come off as a negative Nancy, lol 😅. I wish I still lived up north (used to live in Alaska a lifetime ago).

I only live in a home with an east window in my bedroom. The softest wakeup ever. Even apartments know which apartments have east windows in the bedroom.

I like how you say the first thing you notice when walking into someone’s house is how is smell, United it’s covered in dirt. Well! In my place you get to experience both: It smells AND it’s covered in dirt!😅👃🏻💩🤦🏻‍♀️

Oh oh!!! Can you do a video on how to make your home luxurious when you have a pet? Pet stuff is so hideous. I have a cat. The struggle is real! 💟

Luxurious or more so cleaner I. E. Pet hair? I suggest a duvet cover that you wash every time you wash your sheets

There are litter boxes you can buy that look like cabinets, and also litter boxes with plant holders installed in the top. There are cat trees. You can get that have carved wood stems for a more clean and modern look. Highly recommend hooded litter boxes, they have stairs for disabled kitties, they keep in the smell, and that way you're not looking into the litter box. If you have a scratch pad of some kind, they're often made out of jute, put it low on the wall where they can reach it to scratch it. Then get a large frame from a thrift store or someplace, and anchor that around the edges of the scratch pad.

Also, I understand this isn't practical for everyone, but our house has a lot of storage space. I use use one of my closets just for cat things. Extra cat toys are stored on the top shelf, and the litter box fits into the closet as well. I closed the doors most of the way until there's just enough space for the cat to get in and out of the closet.

I went into Hollister with my granddaughter years ago. I don’t remember scents. But I remember it being so dark you could barely see. And the music was loud, so you couldn’t talk. I usually let my husband go in that store. My nightstand has a touch lamp, which I hate, on it. I hit it accidentally when my husband is asleep. Then you have to keep touching it until it goes off. I’m going to change them out. I bought one of the big arm pillows if I read in bed. We have a metal headboard. And it isn’t comfortable to sit up against. I have three dogs sleeping on my bed. I have to kind of roll my comforter to the side so I don’t have to use it. I really want the dogs off our bed. My bedroom is carpeted. So I don’t need a rug. My dogs would just pee on it. My nightstands have two usb ports for me to charge things. I don’t think my husband even has his plugged in. My bedroom doesn’t have room for anymore furniture. I’ve always wanted a chair. But there’s nowhere to put one. The one thing I’m going to do is get rid of the stupid touch lamps.

I plan to shift to a suspended light to get my lamp off the nightstand.

One thing to be mindful with scents if you have pets. There are many essential oils that can be toxic to pets.

I only worked part time jobs while we raised our daughters. Now I’m a full time grandmother. Being in my house most of the day, it makes me feel good to see nicely made beds when I’m flitting around the house.

I have serious issues with migraines. Scents can trigger one right away. My son in law likes strong scents and I feel so rude when I have to ask them to turn their Scentsy warmers off before I visit. I have found that I can tolerate a light vanilla, coconut or linen breeze scent for a short period of time. The struggle is real!

As do I! 2 of them lol I now use a duvet cover on my duvet. I also have my throw in the corner but, also theirs. It's a softer, for short faux fur -ish throw that they gravitate towards away from mine and also in the opposite corner so, they're not smack in the middle lol Maybe that'll help?

@@DGKK55 aww! Lol have to tell you one of mine sleeps on my head on top of my pillows. It's uncomfortable but, I wouldn't have IT ANY OTHER WAY lol And when I did that it was by accident, it just happened that way and I got upset with my other baby and called him over to me. I had separation anxiety lol he also prefers to sleep with his back in mine. This provides good lumber support lol When my service dog was going through training it was suggested to me that she sleep next to me on the floor by my head (😂 that's actually, Dani, the one who sleeps ON MY head lol) I just couldn't I tried one night (my bed is only a couple inches off the floor) and had to have my arm / hand hanging down on her lol

You talk about having pillows to watch TV. A TV doesn’t belong in a bedroom. A bedroom is for two purposes, one of them is sleeping and the other one is not watching TV. This also applies to exercising exercise equipment or work areas.
