10 Tips Before You Travel To Africa | Backpacking & Solo Female Travel Advice

Want to travel to Africa but feel a little worried? In this video two solo female travellers who went backpacking around the continent share their best tips!
I, Sabina, am at the beginning of a five month journey around Africa. I'll be travelling to Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Madagascar. My friend Val has been living in Ethiopia for five years and has backpacked around the continent on an epic journey from Cape Town to Cairo. She also runs the wonderful channel Backpacking Africa for Beginners where she shares tonnes of useful tips.
You can find her e-book here: www.e-junkie.com/ecom/gb.php?...
Together we will share our best tips on safety, local travel, packing and everything in between. We are solo female travellers who explored the region on a backpacker budget, but even if you're travelling in a group or have a lot of money to spend you'll benefit from our general advice.
1. Africa is diverse (00:56)
2. Africa is safe (01:43)
3. Use common sense (03:55)
4. Don't trust history (05:06)
5. Find things locally (06:44)
6. Go beyond safaris (08:32)
7. People mean well (09:45)
8. Don't overpack (11:01)
9. You can dress well (12:27)
10. Come to Africa (13:44)

As an African I must say I am impressed with this video. Initially when I saw the title I was a bit sceptical but you guys did a good job. I thing you forgot to mention though is that travelling within Africa is not cheap compared to travelling within Europe or SE Asia for instance. Because there are almost no budget airlines like in other parts.

I can't wait to go back to visit more countries in Africa. Could you do a video about how some volunteering does more harm than good? I know one day I would love to volunteer but I would want to make sure it was legit, also im interested in how some are not good. Thanks so much, hope you have a great rest of your trip!!

Okey, so you said you are vegans... (i am too..) and later you said try the local food etc to show respect... this is my dilemma... moral dilemma, because I dont want to disrespect different cultures, but I also do not want to eat animals... It would be nice if you spoke alittle bit about this. Because for someone who has not been to any African countries yet, my first thought is that there are alot of meat/fish dishes, and if you are welcomed to someone's house eventhough they might not eat alot of meat day to day, I think they will probably have more meat as a welcoming to you... what to do?? If anyone here is from an African country, please tell me which, and tell me how to respectfully and politely decline meat/fish... what should I do????
