Rockstar put the subway system into GTAIV specifically for me. I couldn't get enough of the realism of feeling like I was actually in NY. Such an amazing attention to detail for something that wasn't used by many apparently.

It's a nice detail yes, but they should have used that energy and time for improving the mission design, GTAIV is too damn repetitive, specially coming after San Andreas.

I'm glad someone else appreciates it, I don't live in NY but it's nice to play games and just explore and that added to my experience, I do the same thing in AC syndicate when I watch people interact like, kids playing with balls, characters juggling, arguments in the street all individually voiced is fun, I feel like I'm appreciating the devs when I do it and just think "hmm somebody sat down and took the time to make this unique for my experience" kindered spirits my friend is 😁

The realism of Gotham in AK killed the mood for me. Everything was just too shiny and polished. God, miss Kevin Conroy so much. He was perfect. I got a voice acting background and have to say that his voice has been such an inspiration for me since the Batman the Animated Series. The vocal training was really tough, sometimes without noticeable results for months but actors like him are a great impulse to not give up. You almost saw me as Leon in those new RE games :)

Nah, what killed the mood for me was how dumb everything was, like when the Arkham Knight shows his deep knowledge of Batman, instructing his goons how to deal with him, all of this while he ignores the freaking batmobile right behind him. Well, I guess it can be appreciated as an unintentional comedy hahaha

For city of that size it's generally lacking in vehicles and the little that exist are usually all stopped at junctions even when the lights are on green, and like you said it just holds you up plus The roads are so narrow! The design for the layout and road network is really, really weird especially as it's a North American city. It's the lack of realism in that design that spoils it, plus how and when vehicles spawn throughout the map. I do love the game though but I've always found the roads odd

The bank mission in the Witcher was a god tier easter egg. It's a reference to a gag in one of the old Asterix movies where you had to do exactly the same thing, get the Permit A38 and it was just as horrible. It says a lot about CDPR to actually dedicate an entire side mission to this.

Who cares? I certainly don’t. I don’t care that games are having a bit of realism, because that makes the games more interesting. Like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom for example. Those two games are set in Hyrule, which is a fantasy world, but I like the durability mechanic in both games because it makes the game have a little bit of realism when all weapons in previous games were indestructible.

I dunno what you're complaining about when it comes to TLOU Part 2 and killing the enemy NPC's. One group of bad guys are insane cultists that fully believe in human sacrifice and there's literally only about two or three of them with any moral fiber or sense of decency, and the other is, oh right, the Fireflies, a group of people so willfully stupidly ignorant of the basic practices of biology that they would have killed Ellie with a flawed scientific procedure that had already been proven to not work with other immune people before her instead of TAKING HER BLOOD SAMPLES, BECAUSE SHE WAS BITTEN AND DIDN'T TURN FROM IT, WHICH MEANS HER WHITE BLOOD CELLS WERE THE ANSWER, NOT HER BRAIN. If they wanted us to feel bad for killing them, they shouldn't have made them so goddamn stupid and willfully evil. A little begging and crying isn't going to make me feel worse about my own survival.

I think the point was that the game is already so grim that the realism of the deaths can sometimes too the grimness over the edge. I generally agree with your point but I also understand the other as I can remember the whole tone of the game getting a bit much sometimes and needing to take a break for my own state of mind. I think that's what naughtydog wanted us to feel so I have to praise them, I think it's an astonishing piece of storytelling and art

This stuff is what is making the gaming industry implode, going for such hyper realism & unnecessary level of details (COUGH PlayStation First Party) is what’s making game development average 4 to 5 years long, & budgets spiral out of control.

I was ready to make a similar comment but it didn't really apply to barely any of the examples here. Gaming does need to tone down on the realistic graphical details. Most of us won't even notice them beyond the first hour. Many of my most engrossing gaming experiences have cartoony or even pixelated graphics.

Well, at least Sony's still making great games be it 1st or 2nd party. Can't say the same about most of the other studios. And if there's a video game vacuum, other studios always swoop in and fill that space. Can't complain when they're unfinished, unpolished, live service and micro transaction heavy.etc.
