    The problem with Rey's heritage was that so much time was wasted on the "mystery" of who she is. From Luke's light saber calling out specifically to her, to deliberate not so subtle hints that there is more to her that meets the eye, it was naturally a head scratcher when all of that was casually tossed aside and she was revealed to be absolutely nobody. Now, I have no issues whatsoever with Rey having no special lineage. But if that was the route you wanted to take with her, then you should have established that from the very beginning of the series. All that time wasted on the "mystery box" of her lineage could have instead been spent developing her as her own character.

  • @samuelwallace2782

    @samuelwallace2782

    I actually had no problem with her ultimately being a nobody. But Rian Johnson should have been on the same page as JJ Abrams. The biggest problem with the sequels was the fact that there was not a coherent story arc prior to filming

  • @Bassquake76

    Mystery boxes with no payoffs is JJ Abrams speciality. Hes a hack fraud. Rian Johnson isnt much better with his "subversion" nonsense.

  • @cal5754

    @cal5754

    9 күн бұрын

    @samuelwallace2782 there was a story arc which all three directors knew. RJ knew what JJ was doing and requested him to send R2-D2 with Rey so he could meet Luke again. JJ knew what RJ was filming and actually asked to direct the screenplay because he loved it. Colin Trevorrow knew what RJ was doing and asked him to film a scene to lead into his planned film, which again, RJ and JJ knew and had read the script for. JJ is worse than George Lucas for changing his mind about things and so made a massive U turn. He's not a brave storyteller, which is why he drops so many mystery boxes and leaves them for others to figure out.

  • @samuelwallace2782

    @samuelwallace2782

    @cal5754 I genuinely don't believe that. Reys heritage matters, no it doesn't, oh wait, yes it does. Snoke is important, wait, just kidding. The knights of Ren... don't matter. The lightsaber... well it came from somewhere, but we don't have time to explain because there's a crucial scene where the characters ride horse cats through a casino to fight Capitalism (no, they don't free the child slaves). Finally, the story of a black stormtrooper, uh oh, Chinese audiences didn't approve. They can try to save face all they want. It's bs

    Yea, Miller's crimes are just the serious part, @@couchslouch3540 The film itself is just a mess in so many respects. I'll always find something to like about reviled cinema. In this case I didn't find much. I advocate consistent continuity. Multiverse stories sidestep the associated problems neatly in large part, so Flash screenwriters had it easy in that sense. They still found ways to obliterate story logic in pointless fashion. Others will tell you about the juvenile mis-characterization of Barry Allen, the wasted potential of the Michael Keaton comeback, the deliberately off-looking special effects, and the list just goes on.

    Yeah, The Flash absolutely did NOT do right by the fans. They stuck with a PDF File freak, the CGI was on par with a mid 90s made for TV movie, every cameo was nothing short of pointless, and they completely did 1989 Batman dirty, after fans had been waiting 32 years to see Michael Keaton play the part again. The only good part about that movie was after it was over.

    this effectively ended their chance to just have a relaunch of Michael Keaton's batman in a movie that actually stars batman as the main character. Their choice to rush forward with half baked ideas is removing lucrative opportunities from themselves in the future. This is why I no longer look forward to movie adaptations of my favorite franchises. I know they will not be done correctly and that will inevitably delay a proper adaptation by decades or outright kill it due to perceived lack of interest.

    A couple of these are due to listening to certain fans, not all of them. Star Wars for instance was a pointless course correct because certain fans pitched a fit over the The Last Jedi and Carrie Fisher passing away as she was supposed to be a bigger focus in the last movie. I still think the DCEU had a lot of potential, but instead of doing their own thing and building it up, they tried to be like Marvel. They ignored the fact that the universes are different and they ignored how many other movies Marvel released to get to where they were. DC tried to do the same in a fraction of the time. Thor Love and Thunder I feel suffered from one the biggest issues that will always be there when adapting a story from a different medium. It's always hard to do it justice in the limited timeframe. To really explore Jane as Thor would have taken it's own movie at the very least. But Marvel has gotten in the habit of trying to rush stories as well which is why a lot of what they are releasing isn't being received well.

    Not really about the fans, hence the single quotes around that phrase in the video title. The problem is poor writing. All of Hollywood has been suffering from uni-directional political hiring of writers (and often directors) that don't care about the shows they are assigned. And don't seem very good at writing in the first place. They just like messages. They should be writing protest signs, not movies.

    I'm not saying WC have always pumped out low-effort vids with no care whatsoever... but... this is a shining example of it. No take two for the VO? Nahhh... too much effort. Checking the audio first? Nahhhh... why would we do that? Editing or even checking the content... WHAT IS THIS!?

    Thor: Love and Thunder took a lot of heat for being tonally conflicting but I'm not sure the death of Jane could have been approached realistically in a single movie any better. The images and music are meant to capture the pathos that are otherwise fleshed out in longer storytelling. While not as excellent as Ragnarok, that is a nearly impossible task to try to follow. Given the difficulty of seamlessly blending two outstanding comic runs in a single flick(which is the only mistake I think actually committed), love and Thunder was surprisingly effective given the monumental task.

    My favorite post Endgame film is No Way Home. Then Guardians 3. After that, the Marvels. I thought Captain Marvel was boring, but I find Kamala too adorable and she made that film worth it for me. Then it would be Black Widow. I didn't like any of the others. I really hated Dr Strange MoM. Such a disappointment. I was so excited for it, but it sucked. And Thor: Love and Thunder was annoying. Especially the goat. It wasn't funny the first time it happened, because that stupid clip was memed so much, but it was even less funny the other 200 times it happened.

    I’m confused by the intended theme now. Yes, all of these films pissed off the fans, but none of them “did the right by the fans”. Doing right by the fans implies that they honored the fans’ wishes, canonically or in another notable way, in spite of an inherently negative consequence. Nope. Nothing to see here. As such, it was simply 10 films that ‘PO’ed the fans. Period. I feel as if this piece is an extract of another longer and, possibly, better edited video.

    My favorite *movie* of phase 4-5 would be Black Widow. Favorite TV show of phase 4-5 is WandaVision. But regarding Thor Love and Thunder, I have to give Natalie Portman approbation for her physical transformation for the role, and I thought she did a good job with role, too. Despite internet hate, she was not the problem with that movie.

    I want to see "Thor" cuz I thought it was something from the Norse mythology not from a comic book. Even though I enjoyed it I didn't see the follow-ups. I want to see "X-Men" because of Hugh Jackman. I like to twirl enough but the second film lost me and I never watched anything further. I have seen most of the Batman movies but I only really liked the ones with Val Kilmer and Michael Keaton. I wouldn't even know what films are the 4th and 5th phase of MC movies. I don't even know if some other films that may have been based on comics that I saw are MC, DC or AC/DC. Is "Deadpool" one of them? I found it very entertaining. For one film.

    I'm not sure you are correctly articulating "did right by fans". The impression is that something was offered that fans wanted but it failed. In most cases, I'd suggest fans did NOT want was presented. Rebel Moon was the most obvious example as most of us didn't need two movies for that let alone the idea that there are extended cuts and sequels to come. At some point people will credit Snyder with making an excellent zombie movie (Dawn of the Dead) and good graphic novel adaptations (300, Watchmen) but when he started to create his own visions, the quality dropped drastically (almost every other film). While I didn't dislike the theatrical release of JLA, I don't find the Snyder cut all that more appealing. Considering they gave him almost the same budget again plus many more months to film and allowed him to make a longer movie (all things they withheld from Whedon), he just made a longer, duller version. I suspect the same could be said of Taika Waititi who took a well-loved superhero with a rich background and destroyed almost everything that made Thor important and interesting. It says something when the Thor in the Avengers Assemble cartoon series is a better adaptation than what we saw in the two Waititi movies.

    I'll be impressed by the Fast series when they bring back Paul Walker. Also, everything about Rebel Moon was unnecessary. No one asked for or needed a Star Wars rip off, especially with Disney milking the hell out of that franchise. And then to make 2 of them?? Really getting some Morbius energy with these 'Snyder cut' releases so soon after. Plus, Zack, c'mon buddy. They were Netflix movies. You can release them as long, dark, and violent as you want the first time. You could have even been the first dude to just release an 8 hour slog through slow motion violence, and explosions just to see who would sit through that kind of nonsense for so long to at least have that attached to it. But this was honestly nothing.
