one of the best comments our paediatrician made was that most babies hate getting swaddled but love being swaddled. That was 100% true for us, swaddling was one of the best things for my little one. But she hated the process, pretty much as intensely as she loved the result.

I’m so glad you mentioned it being normal to not have that instant attachment and love for your baby. I felt no connection when I was pregnant, tho I was very excited to finally be a mom. It took until her first yawn for me to actually feel a connection (not sure why). Now I’m absolutely obsessed with her since I’ve had a month of bonding so far 💚

Don't worry too much, I was in the same boat. I am 30 weeks now approx and, whilst I'm not excited, I do feel calm and accepting. Try not to worry or I think the stress will affect you getting 'into It. As my friend said, it's hard to be excited by something you don't know, so give yourself time :)

@@aniya113 I didn't start to get attached until I started feeling him really kick and roll and punch. Being able to feel his actual feet and stuff. But we wanted a baby. It seems like there is a point for most mothers, who aren't narcissists and stuff, where they'll connect. I still feel somewhat disconnected because he's right there, but he feels so far away.

Your nurse is what can make or break your hospital experience, what your nurse is like makes a bigger difference then who your doctor is (baring complications you almost never even see your doctor until it is time to push) six hospital births and I have had good and bad nurses (clueless or indifferent may be a better word then bad) and your labor and delivery nurse, postpartum nurse make such a big difference. You sound like one of the best, knowledgeable and compassionate.

I tried swaddling with regular blankets for my newborn. He hates his arms swaddled and always manages to wiggle out of the even tightest wrap. Those halo sleep sacs saved my life. I can leave his arms out so he is more comfortable and I know he won’t wiggle out of the velcro maintaining a safe sleep environment in his basset.

My youngest child is 14 years old and it still hurts my heart that he had to go straight to the NICU immediately after birth so I missed out on skin to skin and the first big breastfeeding session. I was very nervous that he wasn't going to breastfeed well since we were several days delayed (and this was my 1st attempt at nursing a baby. I bottle fed my older child). But to my surprise, we had no issues. I ended up breastfeeding him until he was 2 years old then he weaned himself. 😪 I still had a ton of breast milk in the freezer so he drank it out of a cup until it was gone. I wouldn't trade that experience for anything in the world!! 💖

I was sort of the opposite and my dad kinda had same reaction. He's from Bangladesh so has the stereotypical "Indian" skin tone, my mum is white and when I was born, I was white, well pink I guess but you know what I mean lol I didn't start getting my skin tone I have now until a few days/weeks. My mum took one look at me and said "she's yours, I swear!!" Before he had the chance to say anything lol Once my eyes took their colour, there was no doubts as I'm his spitting image :(

You are just so, so wonderful. I don’t have any babies yet, but we are probably going to try within the next year. The longer we wait, the more daunting pregnancy, L&D, and motherhood seem to become. You provide so much comfort and reassurance heading into that phase of my life. Thank you!

I absolutely love your videos and how honest you are! I'm currently 31 weeks pregnant with my first baby and your advice has been very helpful and calming. I'm in transition of switching obgyn because the one I was seeing left me feeling so depressed. He pretty much fat shamed me for how much weight I've gained during my pregnancy. He spewed a lot of worst case scenarios at me including an unavailable C-section, me bleeding out, having my "vagina fall out later", and even having a brain dead baby. He told me I was a failure in my pregnancy which really just made me shut down. He reassured me I wouldn't be able to lose weight between now and my due date. His words just keep replaying in my head but I'm trying to be optimistic. I just hope my next obgyn is as helpful and informative as you are.

I am already prepared knowing he will have to spend some time in the NICU but your videos have really helped comfort and prepare me for what to expect when we finally get to bring him home .
