I make my own cleaning products- always work better than store, better for my lungs and environment and yes, pennies on the dollar.
I have both Dinning and Living on a Dime and I totally agree! I got my daughter on the cloth diaper band wagon and introduced her to many of the concepts that I have been living even before I got your books! (Frugal for life!) but I find it great to peruse through the "Dime" books whenever I need a tip. I always find something new!
I love these short little videos you are doing. It's a nice addition to the hour-long videos
The book is AMAZING! I LIVE BY IT! I give a copy to every single bride I am on contact with, new mommy, birthday girls, high school graduates heading off to college as well as college graduates and the bachelors....those are the gifts my son asked me to buy for his buddies because he loves his copy I bought him WHEN he moved out of the family home......MANY THANKS AND BLESSINGS TO YOU BOTH! Dollar Tree has great kitchen utensils! Especially the Betty Crocker brand, very high quality!
Loving your videos, all you guys are such a great team, and having your Mum on too is just the best ! So many Pearls of wisdom ;-) Thank you all.
So true. Also, shampoos and other toiletries unless they are at a great discount. Sometimes, but very rare, they have good deals on those in their ads to lure people in.
We do keep bottled water on hand for emergencies. We don't drink it on a regular basis but instead we give it away in hot weather to the mailman, etc cuz they're walking their route and sweating to death. Of course, it came in handy this year when a water main broke on our street. Like I said, we keep it on hand for emergencies.

Hi Tarwa & Mike!!! Been away for awhile, computer was on blink! Thank you so much for this! I am constantly looking for ways to cut back at grocery store! 💖
I just love watching you guys!!! Great tips as always 👍
I'm learning this for when I'm done with college... so helpful for life. Thank you
great tips thank you
I am blessed. I get my batteries from the local grocery store when they are on sale buy one pack get two free! These are the big 30-count packs and for all 3 packs I pay 14.99. They especially go on sale before big holidays. So I stock up.

A lot of the things you mention above can be bought for almost nothing at your Dollar Tree and us in Canada it's Dollorama!
Great tip thanks
The filters are expensive for the pitcher , buy a Berkey Water Filter system, if you have a flood and you need clean water, pour the flood water in the Berkey. The Berkey filters last for years.

Enjoyed the video...you two work so well together!
Yep. My utensils come frim $1 Tree most times. Batteries at Walmart but that's where i shop groceries too. Lol Mike...need prayers Tawra?😌
When I lived near Kroger, there were times that I could get our dogs grain free food, make-up, batteries, and cleaning products cheaper by using the digital coupons and hitting them on sale at the same time. Also, I would stock up when I hit a "close out" item that was marked less than other stores would carry it for normally or even at sale prices. I do agree that typically the dog food is much cheaper either at Wal-Mart or through even Chewy than it is at the grocery store. Kroger does have some good digital coupons and their Saturday sale item can be worth it, but you have to use the app and check it weekly.

Agree. In the days of double coupons, and matching with a good sale, I've bought batteries at the grocery for almost free. Of course otherwise, the prices are ridiculous. I miss double coupons. I hardly use coupons anymore.
Thanks for advice very appreciative. Great video 😨⭐👍👊👌

I love watching your videos. You guys crack me up. :)
Good general rules. I guess it depends where you are and you always need to know your prices. Here in Canada, laundry detergent and other cleaners are often loss leaders at grocery stores and are cheaper or the same as elsewhere. I do buy cat food at the grocery store because we have a grocery chain that sells private label products that are really innovative and good quality. Their cat food has ingredients that I'm happy with, my cats do well on it and it's a lot cheaper than name brands. Sorry. I guess this is coming across as another "Yeah, but in Canada..." comment. :) It's not meant as a criticism or complaint though.
I lived in the mountains of colorado for years. I'll tell you what, some of the best water you will ever have. I also make my own laundry detergent for pennies.
I agree. Although, there have been certain times where I had severe time constraints where I needed something immediately and didn't have time to go to another location. But that was very rare.
It's wonderful that you can do these simple things to save money. Where we live we have a WalMart, Winco ( which is a grocery store ), Target & a Costco. Believe it or not, the things you've mentioned, batteries, cleaning products, my cats food & his treats, are cheaper at the grocery store than at the other stores. I'm a new subscriber, but so far I'm loving your videos.

yes I think it depends where you live... My animals eat partly raw and homecooked so there food is bought where mine is part of the time... diapers best deal is actually krogers store brand comfort something ( walmart most expensive)
Hmm ... if you couponed ( which does not take to much time once you get used to it) you can get a good chuck of this list for next to nothing 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️

Great video! I do buy cat food at Kroger. I am going to check out Walmart. Never thought it would be more. And here's a story. Red, yellow and orange peppers are on sale this week for 99 cents or I can get the same peppers in a pre-wrapped bag for $4.79. I almost took a picture to put on the FB page. Thanks for all the tips!
Our grocery store HEB has awesome deals on kitchen utensils frim time to time. This week I got a set of 3 nice quality frying pans for 15.00.
We got a flowbie. Hooks to the vacuum cleaner, no muss no fuss. Have had most of my vehicles for 10 years or more all bought used. I shop at thrift stores all the time.
The auto generated caption on this said “I’m tired from living calm” 😂😂😂😂😂 gotta love ‘em. Glad you’re actually Tawra from living on a dime.... 👍🏻
Great money-saving tips.
I agree with the first one. Once I was at a grocery store near a major campus, and this dad was buying stuff for his daughter. He had stuff like frying pans, pots, utensil type stuff, and some groceries. I'm like thinking, just go to a Walmart.
As for cleaning supplies I use dish soap a little goes along way in a bucket and cleans anything.
I agree with most of what you said. On the bottled water, I buy Ph balanced water for medical reasons. Otherwise, I'm totally there with you. For just plain water, I would rather boil a pot of water in the morning and sip off that all day than buy a gallon or two of 'filtered' water. The pre-cut fruit/veg is 'convenience' for some but 'necessity' for others. Those with limitations/pain cannot cut even soft fruits, so the store always offers some pre-cut. And it is marked up, which is just nasty on their part! It goes bad faster and a bigger risk of contamination when it's pre-cut, too.
I don't wear make up
Batteries at Aldi excellent buy $5.49 for the big pack during the holidays. Walmart 28 oz great value ultra dish soap $1.98 tested it against dawn excellent dish soap.
That's it! where to buy makeup and a tutorial from Mike. :D
The cheapest batteries I found are online at solar battery sites. The best water filter is one that has clay the bottom, activated charcoal from edible trees on top of that, clean sand from ground glass on top of that and water filtering plants as the topper. It's literally dirt cheap to make and easy to maintain. Shalom
You two are so cute I just love you guys 💕 oh yeah and thanks for the tips 😊
Good channel guys. Using re-chargeable batteries is even better. I buy batteries once every three years and re-charge them
This is why you should always compare prices at different stores and keep a price book.
There is 2 grocery stores in my town that sell the off brand cleaning products the same that dollar tree sells for a $1.00 at the same price or under a $1.00 so I do get those there.
I would also add to the list hair dye. Its 1 to 2 dollars more than walmart or target.
I buy rechargeable batteries from Aldi - great price and they last for ages.

Not only is pre-cut produce costly but the more veggies are exposed to the air the more nutrients they lose.

Sometimes if its been a rough day at work i find myself overspending and eating through my feelings i also work in a grocery store so have easy access
Pre cut produce can be taxed in some states as it is considered "prepared" food, thus increasing the cost even more for a minor convenience.
Can you please share what kind of food you doggie is on? (Brand and specific kind) thank you! 💕🐶💕
The only thing about precut fruit and veggies, is that it would be cheaper for people with hand disabilities, if more people bought it. I can't afford the fresh precut, so I buy frozen. It's precut. I have lost hand dexterity due to Rheumatoid Arthritis, I'm young still too. So it sucks. I wish the precut stuff was within my reach budget wise. It's just too much. On a side note...I got your "Dining on a dime' cook book. Love it!

I understand. I know your blog is for normal trying to save money. Still love your cook book!
I buy my dogs food at a farm and feed store / hardware store vs a pet store. I save as much as $10 a bag. I then use a $3 off coupon and I have the rewards program where after I buy 12 bags I get a free one. This store also has a rewards program and sometimes a survey where I can save extra money. I am finding that the drug stores are also not the place to buy a lot of the things you mention. Target or my local grocery store can be cheaper. It’s handy to keep a price book for the things you buy a lot of to know where is the best place to shop for them or what is a stock up price when you see it else where.
Michael seems like such a lovely easygoing guy!
I love his humor lol
I have cast iron pipes. I live in Florida. My water stinks. I bought a pitcher water filter. I thought it was a good idea until I realized the replacement filters were outrageously over priced. I buy gallon jugs of water and I'm very happy.
You putting some on my mind..
Great video but Walmart unfortunately is killing all the other stores such as Kroger even I buy cheaper things from Walmart because they are cheaper. Hope that makes sense! Sometimes I like to pay a little extra just to stay out of Walmart sometimes but I will say Walmart usually wins. I live closest to Walmart and they get most of our money! Just thought I would share my opinion and situation! Love you guys----Tressa Daigle Yes there are things I would absolutely not buy at grocery store

I have purchased pre cut fruit, not very often though. It's very rare that I do that. I have purchased bottle water, most of the time there's a coupon for it. And I check the sales and use the coupon and that saves me money on the bottle water. Diapers and coupons. Depending on the sales, sometimes the best price can be found at the grocery store. I know many couponers who have found amazing deals on diapers. I actually have couponed for cleaning products at the grocery store before. Sometimes they have the best deal for the coupons. Storage containers are probably better to purchase at Walmart or dollar tree stores, so I agree with you on that one. I actually don't buy makeup, no need for it. Don't have a pet, so I don't purchase pet food or any pet products from anywhere. What is a convenience snack? I seriously dunno what that is. Oh, I see. Well I buy the go gurt sour patch kids, it's the only one I actually like, if it came a different way than I would purchase it a different way. I already save tons of money. You should see my stock pile. It's still growing too. I shop alot at CVS. I think though that everyone has their own way of living. And I feel like if it makes you happy, than I am happy for you.
I just bought a ton of batteries to fill an emergency battery container for stocking up in case of a power outage/emergency. We bought them at a discount hardware store.
Even with a Brittany filter on my sink after 3 weeks I have to replace the filter !! Old house with original pipes (50-60 years old) that I rent so I do keep gallons of water .
coor blimey tawra - hope mike is a good body guard - these stores are just so gonna hate on you - but everything you have said is quite true - DIY for most of those things - it saves heaps and you get a true feeling of accomplishment - and i dont want to hear from anyone sniping that they cant - i am kitchen challenged and have been known to show the oven the picture in the cookbook and tell it thats what i want - so if i can feed my family and they have survived so can others - lol

Musicmad....that is so funny. I never thought to show the oven a picture of what I wanted. I wonder if that would work for the cook top. Show it a picture of not burned so that when I walk away from it, it'll be just fine.

You can buy cheese in a jar for nachos at Aldis. Husband likes Nachos on Sunday for football games. One jar last two weeks and it is couple bucks at Aldi.
Some have medical conditions which need bottled water some ar3 immunocompromised sine can’t sF3ly handle a pot of boiling water
I only get my diapers at Kroger. I stock up when they have great coupons! Like the other day their pampers on sale. Save $5 PLUS a FREE 3 pack of wipes! Which are usually $9! You can use this coupon up to 5 times! I stocked wayyyy up! And it was much cheaper than Walmart. 😱
My family knows I will give them heck if they dare buy bottled water. We have a filter on the refig, and our tap isn't terrible either. By the way, you guys are adorable.

I get my storage containers at the Dollar tree, Walmart, Target, and I use coupons. I used to buy my grandsons Pampers at the grocery store using coupons, I also bought their Pampers at Walmart and Walgreens using coupons. I buy my bottled water at Walmart or Walgreens.
Lol. At the make up! Love your channel.
So where to you buy your batteries? At Walmart?/
Only at kroger with catalina. I get huggies for about 3 dollars or less at kroger. Makeup i have gotten free at kroger with a catalina an coupon. Cleaning supploes sometimes i get for less than a dollar a bottle.
I was once given a gift certificate for Shopper's Drug Mart (Canada) and had a horrible time trying to spend it. The prices in the store were $3 to $8 more than the local Walmart. What should have been fun turned out to be horrible because even though I was not paying cash out of my pocket I couldn't justify paying more for items. I ended up finding shampoo on sale - yup $100 on sale shampoo.......
I don’t do makeup at all save money and don’t look like a clown lol
Pre-cut produce is made with almost or partly rotten fruits and veggies
I found a pizza stone cheaper at the grocery store than walmart had it for :)
You guys are a Hoot!! I never buy these things are a good store! I’m frugal. Lol
