Well thanks so much! I do this for a living, so if it doesn't look at least a little bit professional, then I'm in the wrong field 😅 You definitely made the right move. Final Cut is such a fantastic software. As far as you having trouble with adding an intro, might I suggest picking up a plugin that gives you really amazing looking, animated intros? It really saves you a ton of time. What type of intros are you looking to create exactly? Also that's a great idea! I made this thumbnail in photoshop, but I could totally do it in Final Cut Pro too.

@@dylanjohndickerson I understand that. Could y’all do a tutorial of how to maybe do a short project start to finish? You add the title that’s already pre built, add some text, a few transitions. That would be great. The reason I ask is because when I learned premiere pro they showed how to do from start to finish and even adding things and I was able to pick it up fast but tutorials on Final cut seem so difficult because there are little things left out that make a big difference. But great job, I appreciate your reply. I know KZread can keep you busy

Worth mentioning that once you have a keyword collection, you can add clips to it by dragging and dropping. You can also add just ranges of a clip, so for example if you’re clipping up an interview you can select a range and drag it to a keyword collection called “clips” and you have a simple easy list of all your clips. I’ve been editing in Premiere all day and the media management is awful compared to FCP.

Absolutely blown away by this video! I have been using FCP for many years and over several years I have probably watched hundreds of KZread videos on FCP. Some of the channels are good, but Dylan John you are the Jedi Knight of FCP. I learned so much in this video and all of it really useful things that are going to save me a lot of time. Can't thank you enough for posting this. Incredible.

I consider myself an advanced FCP editor and so I avoided watching this video after having it suggested to me several times by KZread. But I must say, bravo. This is a great list! I had no idea about the tilde key tip, and I never even considered just using proxy media for some of the more computationally intensive footage and then switching to proxy preferred. Fantastic work!

Damn! I thought I knew FCP! Thanks for these brilliant tips. “B” for blade has always been a default on mine. I organize my clips in finder with folders, such as Project Name>Sound>DayOne then drag Project Name folder into FCP (or import,) FCP will create keywords for each folder automatically. Finding all the clips for Day 3 or a particular scene is a snap. If the camera has been loaded with metadata such as EXIF and keywords those transfer too.

Woah... Seasoned FCP Editor, I've been using FCP since V1. When I saw the title for this video, I admit that on some level I was imagining to be validated at how much I know about FCP. Well instead, I was humbled. This is an awesome video with some really great tips. Also, the tempo of your presentation is absolutely perfect. You don't waste time, but you don't rush either, and you have style and perfectly supporting visuals the entire time. Pretty much all of the other instructional videos on the internet just got B-Slapped by you. Well done Brother.

Matt…what awesome CC to receive, brotha 🙏🏼 Tempo and flow is something I’ve really worked on the past couple months. In the past, I went WAY too fast, cutting out all pauses because that’s what I thought people wanted. I think I’ve grown closer to satisfying people that’d like a quicker tutorial and those that would like a slower one. Hahaha that’s awesome. Thanks for the kind words man 🙏🏼

You have saved me hours of moving clips left and right in order to delete a clip because of the magnetic timeline. I had no idea what even to search for to stop this so have just gotten used to doing it. I’ll be using the special key now! This was such a great video / and all the the tips were super too….save effects! Why didn’t I ever think of that hahah. Cheers.
