Chazz Burke Its one of the anime rules you in orrter to get stronger you eather lose your shirt or scream a lot. So I guess that kuaroma never needed a power up. Because in fights he doesn't scream just to scream he screams because of pain. This was shown in the fight with the guy with bombs(sorry I can't remember his name)

He literally changed sides for parole, and the first thing he said to Yusuke was that they'd settle things between them once they were done with the case. And he honestly never completely reformed (he anticipated committing "various crimes" at the conclusion of the Dark Tournament), he only turned over a new leaf by the end of his series mostly for the sake of his sister.

I just thought of a possible theory of why hiei never used that green form again. Maybe after losing to yusuke, he decided that relying on that form was a mistake and began training his base form. In fact, maybe the form can't grow stronger because it's artificial like his third eye

@@JakeSmith-mq5dc I heard somewhere that Hiei was supposed to be a one time villain not a main character. People liked him so much that the author kept him in the story but wanted to give him more human-like qualities so the demon form was thrown out.

I first started watching Yu Yu Hakusho back in the early 2000s when it came on Saturday nights on the then newly launched Adult Swim. I had seen teaser commercials up to that point and the first character to stand out was Hiei. Thankfully the show moved to weekday afternoons on Toonami. Because it quickly became my number 2 behind DBZ/Dragon ball. My first thoughts on Hiei, after his villain arc, during the Saint Beasts arc; was that hell yeah Hiei is totally the Vegeta of this show lol. Yusuke is Goku obviously, Kurama is Piccolo and Kuwabara is oddly a weird mixture of Krillin and Tenshinhan, with a few splashes of Vegeta thrown in

#3. While the scene was not included in the anime, it is still shown to be canon. In the final OVA, we see Mukuro on the phone explaining that she hasn't seen Hiei in awhile and in the background we can see the birthday gift that Hiei apparently gave to her offscreen.

Yu Yu Hakusho is one of my fave anime of all time. Watching it just makes me feel like a kid again. Not to mention it has an insane rewatchability factor. Never gets boring.

I remember that interview with togashi regarding the said notorious filipino dub, in the dub they said they mitakenly taught kurama was a girl and he was voice as a girl during the spirit detective arc, realizing their mistake, during the four beast arc they explained it as kurama was originally a male demon who transfer his soul and was reborn as a female human but he doesn't like being a woman so he transform his body to a male from time to time, Togashi was actually impressed by the concept and said wish he done it that way aswell later on he decide to use this idea in Hunter x hunter where kite(a male with long white hair similar to kurama) before he died uses his soul transfer and was reborn to a red haired girl.

In my country, Hungary when they dubbed this series I thought that Kurama was a girl, because they used a female voice actor when in fact he was a male character all along. It gave me so much confusion as a little kid when I first saw him with the HUN Dub but now that I watch it with English dub I fell in love with the series all over again but now 10 times hard.

Finally you did my boy Hiei from Yu Yu Hakusho. You get a thumbs up

Ok, I know this video was posted over a year ago, but I just stumbled across it because I recently went back and rewatched Yu Yu Hakusho again and was looking for some interesting character introspectives. Here is my theory about Hiei's Jagan form. It actually ties in with the point you made about him falling from A-class to D-class. After taking such a huge power hit, that form gave him a power boost. But he still fell to Yusuke, proving that it was very limited. After that, Hiei began working very hard to grow his own power, reclaiming bit by bit the power he had lost to the Jagan procedure. Of course he still used attacks available to him via the Jagan, but he quickly moved past the need to rely on the rather crude form. Hiei is extremely proud. I have a feeling he came to see the very monster-y form as "lesser," especially since it probably ceased to give him any benefit as he surpassed the level that the boost originally gave him. I'm going on the premise that its power increase was a fixed amount and did not grow with him since it was artificially bestowed. Simply, he outgrew it. There's also symbolic significance to it. That form represented evil. It's actually part of my theory that the Jagan Eye had a corrupting influence over Hiei. We know from some of the things revealed about him later that he had an honor code and a capacity to care about others (Yukina) before he got the eye, so he wasn't purely evil. When he first showed up, however, he was quite villainous and resigned to his "evil." As of the Maze Castle arc, however, Hiei was going through, as Kurama put it, a tricky change. As he began to feel something for his teammates, which continued to build through the Dark Tournament, that evil that he displayed in the beginning was giving way to the more meaningful existence and greater purpose he found in his relationships with others who truly accepted him. When he was out on the sea cliff, struggling with the Dragon of the Darkness Flame, I believe he was also struggling against himself. Conquering it, for me, symbolized that he finally had complete control over the power of the Jagan Eye, and it ceased to hold sway over him. So as his power grew beyond the need to rely on the Jagan form, he also grew past the Jagan's influence to draw out his evil. Or, it's like you said and the creator just swept it under the rug when Hiei became a permanent character, and I am waaayyyy overthinking this, lol!

The reason Hiei never again used that transformation was because the writer said it looked ridiculous so he stopped using it

From my understanding, it's not much of a boost in his s class ranking. Or it was something like he just hates the form. I dunno. Either way the dragon of the darkness flame is a much much much stronger technique and the fact that he can absorb it's power makes it infinitely stronger than that transformation.

to me having a form that gives you noticeable "weak spots" on your body isn't worth the power boost. Like, say hitting one of those eyes would be more painful than hitting bare skin.

Hei has always been my favorite Anime character

If i remember correctly, I think the reason he never used his demon form again is because it made his whole body one giant weak spot, because of the eyes. Yeah, he's faster and stronger, but if you managed to get one good hit on him he would be down.... considering that I would rather not rely on that form either.

He really needs his own series.

I don't remember when yu yu hakusho came to the US but I do remember it was on adult swim and then later on toonami,I think in the early 2000's if I remember right,I seen alot of 90's anime from the early 2000's yu yu hakusho being one of them,same with detective conan aka case closed in the US,so I was in my teens when I first show these shows and I still love them

Hiei breaks the chains in both and in the Eizo Hakusho OVA's it shows Mukuro's father head on the plant in her room. Implying it happened in the anime as well just off screen.

Ah good to see a Yuyu Hakusho video dropped that is brand new. I love this series to death is sad it`s so underrated it`s a really solid anime and manga back when it 1st came out and still stands up strong nowadays in my opinion. It`s the only anime/manga I can keep coming back o over and over again and still feel this unexplained feeling of wonder from it.

I love YuYu Hakusho, they kept the transformations limited instead of spamming them *cough other shounen mangas. I really wish we saw a bit more of the mazakou form from Yusuke
