As another poster mentioned, we have Costco here in Merida that sells luxurious towels and linens. Lived here 3 1/2 years and pretty much anything you can purchase in the USA is available here (or Amazon mx can get it to you!). Home Depot, Sam's Club, Walmart, etc., are all here. Such a bounty after living in Belize 6 years prior.

Merida was too hot and humid for me, but I was there in 1963, and I took a plane for the first time from there to DF., and I was flying ever since.. I loved Isla Mujeres etc. I do tip most generously, and I love it. La Comer delivers my water, groceries etc., and have locals, who love helping me. I got my first cell phone, when I moved to Queretaro, Mexico. on 11-2-2021. Thank you, and i love your videos!

These seem like very practical and helpful tips for living in Merida. I had to chuckle at some of them (because I live in Florida) where that little humidifier would overflow every day and where we too have super hard water. Also, I'm surprised that in LA you didn't experience the water jug coolers and delivery services. They are very common in Florida too. Anyway, for those who are not used to those things, you gave very good advice. The other 7 items were things I had not thought about and would also be helpful for people who are new there. Great video, as always!

For the faucets: a 25 hour vinegar soak of the end piece soften the scale build up, I think. I even tried baking soda and vinegar on the theory that vigorous foaming action would help. I then work away at the build up by scraping away at it with the business end on a small screw driver. It was worth it in the end.

Nice job. I really liked the tip on vinegar to break up the calcium. My faucet has had the water going in multiple directions for quite some time now, as I haven't been able to get the end piece off "easily" and didn't want to force it. I forced some vinegar up into it a few times and now it comes straight down. Thumbs up!!

The entire Yucatan peninsula is limestone and other soluble minerals thus the sediments in your faucet traps. It's a good idea to turn off/on your water supplies (sinks and toilets) once a month too. Nothing like a stuck valve at 3am when the crapper is overflowing! 😲

I have been coming to Mexico, mainly Acapulco since 1962. I do speak Spanish as a second language. I moved permanently to Queretaro, Mexico on 11-2-2021 at 79 . I moved because of the deadly crimes and the rents, utilities etc. taking almost all of my retirement income. It is safer, beautiful and cleaner here, and $850 per month less expensive. There is not any shortage or limits on food, and I use home delivery, as I did in the USA . I use Amazon-Mexico to order the foods, that i miss from the USA, and are not sold here. Grits, Louisiana hot sauce, Hormel Beef tamales, Libby's Corn Beef hash, Red chili flakes, and Campbell's chicken noodle soup.. Pork is all that I do not eat, and I cook 99% of my food. Butterball has the best turkey bacon! The earthquakes were the deal breakers for Acapulco, but I will always love her. Grilled Red Snapper and Pollo Felez are my favorite foods, that I order for take out. My apartment has a fantastic view of all of Queretaro, all utilities and WiFi, maid service, and 100% furnished with everything, and a beloved king size bed, like at home. I am working on my temp retirement visa, since I did get 180 days, but at this age, I do not want to do visa runs, and never know how many days I will get. It is better, if you can to get the temp retirement visa. God bless the world, and please behave. Hands are for helping and not hurting. Put a d before anger, and you get deadly danger. Do not argue! No one can ride your back, unless you bend over. Only the strong survives. Treat everyone, the way you want to be treated. Karma never loses an address, and we will reap what we have sown. DO THE RIGHT THING ALWAYS!

Love this and love you guys! You're my fave people to watch. Great tips and pointers. Merida is beautiful but oh so hot! Whatssap is so true right?! Leon is from England and it's super popular there. I'm from Canada and had no idea what it was... I downloaded it and literally only had him as a contact (to video call and talk - not on a social media platform - it's one of the only ways) and since being in Mexico for 5 months now my contact list is full! We're in San Cristobal - Chiapas (ended up staying here for our final 3 months in Mexico when it was suppose to be only a month....) we so fell in love! And everyone we meet says they came for a week and never left...it's magical here! Have you visited yet? As for the water guy here he drives around blowing his whistle and clanging some symbol LOL I love Mexico! I'm going to miss it when we leave but we will definitely be back. - Jenn

You can buy a house here without having residency, but to buy and register a car here, you must have residency. Our water delivery in Progreso is $15/garrafon, and a flat delivery fee of $15 no matter how many we order. We actually have a self-serve laundromat at the beach. It's the only one I've seen around. Based on my own experience, I will tell you that for someone living outside of Merida (I live maybe 20-25 minutes away), a car is a lot less optional. Collectivos are around to a certain hour, a bus too (sort of), but after dark the sidewalks are pretty much rolled up in the pueblos. Add to that.....Merida Uber drivers don't really like to leave the city after say 6pm to drop you off....they most definitely won't come to pick you up. That's not a knock in any way, it's just what happens....so yeah, I have bicycles, a car and whatever I need to get me to where I might want to go 😊

Hi guys!! Very informative video!! I've been binging all your stuff lately!!! Question for you: since the water is not good to cook with or drink, what about taking a shower and washing your hair? When I was in Korea I had some skin and hair issues due to the water problems there!!! TIA :)

Great question! The water has been fine for us to shower/brush our teeth. It is a little “hard” in some regions (like Merida) so we just use extra moisturizer when we get out, and also make sure to check the faucets for mineral buildup - something we learned about after we moved in. Overall it really hadn’t been an issue though!

My wife and I are renovating a home in the San Sebastián/La Ermita neighborhood. Question, our bedrooms are in the back of the property. We NEED our Netflix in the bedroom. Hey there! We're not sure what setup would be best (really depends how far away the bedroom is from the main house), but we do know our friends had a casita in Centro they used as a guesthouse and they had wifi back there (not sure if it was two routers or just a mesh system). Our advice would be to reach out on the expat Facebook groups to hear what other people who have similar layouts have used, as they would know better than us!! Good luck on the renovations though (keep us posted on how it all goes!) and thanks so much for watching!!

It is annoying when they cancel and now it's common everywhere but it's a gig job and they have the right to cater to the ride that is most advantageous to them...you have to keep that in mind. If I were an Uber driver I'm sure I'd do the same thing because that is the freedom that ride sharing gives to both the driver and the customer. : ) Remember when all the choice we had were super expensive taxi cabs or inconvenient and roudy public transit??

It's so funny hearing Americans say "tip, tip, tip, tip, everyone." Here in Australia it's so rare to tip it's considered strange if you do! That's the benefit of decent wages for everyone I suppose. The minimum hourly wage here in Australia is $22.00. Waiters and servers earn double that. When in Mexico I'll certainly be tipping. America is so much richer though. Weird to think people need tips to make ends meet there.
