🇯🇵10 Things You Have to Know Before You Come to Osaka for Safe Trip

In this video I introduce 10 things that you have to know before you come to Osaka!
1. You want to avoid Nishinari "Airin" area if you want to have an "Adventure"
2. Please make a space to walk when you ride on the escalator.
3. You can use Tokyo metro and JR IC cards in Osaka as well.
4. You can talk with your friend, but you cannot be on the phone in the train.
5. You'd better know about the system of Oshibotan Shingo (Pelican crossing)
6. there are many Asian travelers in Osaka, so it's hard to find a local to ask questions when you have a question
7. But Osaka people are willing to answer your question!😉
8. Osaka people speak Japanese with Osaka accent, and they speak really fast as well. So if you are Japanese learner, you might have a hard time in Osaka.
9. There are many tout in street in Osaka, many those restaurant are really expensive with poor qualities, so you have to be careful..
10. There is a wonderful KZreadr in Osaka if you know about Osaka more😊! Rion Ishida😉

I was living with my girlfriend and our friend in Nishinari (or Kamagasaki) for 3 weeks in April/May 2019. Our Airbnb was in front of that famous triangle park. We met there many gentle and interesting people, discovered many cool places to eat (Yakumido Curry, Okonomiyaki Chitose, one of the best Ramen in osaka), partying in many karaoke bars in area. The area is a perfect hub for train rides to Kyoto, Hiroshima, Wakayama, Koyasan, Tokyo, Tottori, Himeji, Kobe and many other cities in Kansai area. Yes, there are many homeless and drunk people, but never felt in any danger even going back to our place at 2.00 am - feeling completely safe even with my dslr camera in my hand. The sitiuation of people (mostly old laborers) living in Nishinari is a result of collapsing economy in the past - it's not their choice of living (I strongly reccomend to read some articles about history of Nishinari). To be honest we met there kindest people and what was really strange, many say to us hello and asking where we are from in english - which is very rare in Japan. Nishinari is changing to be better, it is very cool place to find good and cheap accomodation and reccomended for those who want to see other side of Japan - more normal, less commercial with people living their everyday life far from more touristy places. I love Nishinari, love the atmosphere, food and bars there, and for sure I will be back there. Greetings to all people living in Nishinari from Poland :)

Thanks for the comment Michal from Poland^^ Great to hear that you had wonderful time around Kamagasaki area in Nishinariku. Yes, recently the area is becoming much safer place to stay compare to before, and yes, there are so many homeless people who are friendly and kind as well😉 As you may know, Japan is a really safe country (Even drunk people can sleep on the street, and most of the times, the wallet won't be stolen), so I meant it is a dangerous town in Japanese standard (compared to NewYork, Nishinari is much safer place for sure)😂 I do want to emphasis that it is NOT all homeless people are dangerous, most of them are very friendly because they know "the pain of the life" much more than other people🤔(I used to talk and listen to their stories, they are really friendly and they like to talk with strangers) However, it is true that sometimes there are dangerous (alcohol or drug addicted people who are really desperate) people in Nishinari as well..🤔 Please understand that I don't want to disrespect the people who lived in Nishinari, I was born and raised in Osaka, and I have many friends who grew up in Nishinari, and almost all of them agree that Nishinari, Kamagasaki area is dangerous compared to other area in Osaka😅 So I just want to give travelers "heads-up" if they want to have a peaceful time in Osaka😉 Again, thank you so much for sharing your story in Osaka😊, your comment (experience in Nishinari) would give the viewers an idea of Nishinari more😉 Arigato for your support😊

I stayed in Nishinari, and not once did I ever feel threatened or unsafe, even carrying an expensive camera around at 2am, while drunk and lost. You can tell the area is, by Japanese standards, a bit "run down", but compared to my supposedly prosperous and trendy home city in England, it was spotless, neat and tidy. If my circumstances allowed, I'd move there tomorrow.

  • @RionIshida

Sweet! Sounds like you had really good time there😉! Thank you so much for sharing you experience in Osaka😊 Yes, Nishinari people are really friendly compared to other places, and for sure you can enjoy the real local atmosphere there😉. But sometimes there are people shouting in the street because of drunk or drug,, (only in VERY SPECIFIC AREA of Nishinari though), so I believe some travelers from safe cities would feel uncomfortable to see that, and I just wanted to give them heads-up😊! Better to know where is safer and where is not that much in Osaka I think😉

Fukudaya is near Tobita? Also, Rion is spot on as usual but far too modest. Nishinari can be a little rough but I lived there as a student many years ago and it is getting much better and the level of bag snatching might be high for Japan but no worries, people are polite and friendly like anywhere there.

Thanks for the comment Japan 101^^ Firstly, I wanna apologize if this video makes you uncomfortable😅 Yes, you are right😉! It is getting better and better since there are many travelers, and also I have many friends from Nishinari wards as well, so I know that they are really friendly and nice😊 However, in Nishinari, "Airin", and "Tobita" are still I don't consider it as safe district... Still there are many alcoholic and drug addicted homeless people on the streets, plus they have a community without ID culture (they can have a job without ID), thus many unsocial people come to this place from all over Japan, especially people who want to hide from ..... So in my conclusion, for sure, it's better to avoid this place if they want to have a safe trip in Japan🤔, that's why I introduce in the video. But again, if this video makes you uncomfortable, I apologize though😅 I just want to give the travelers heads-up for those district😉

Thanks for the comment Frezzercointer^^ I am in Tokyo now, but I will go back to Osaka soon😉 You can find many night clubs around Dotonbori,! Also Soemoncho” next to Dotonbori is popular nightlife spots👍 But there are many Ripped off bars as well, so you have to be really careful though😂

Thanks for the comment Jun ^^ In Namba station, you cannot smoke (You can only smoke in specific area)😉 Also from next April, smoke restriction will be very strict, so you won't be bothered by smokers😆!

Hi Rion, is Ebisunishi a good place to live? I saw that it is near shinsekai and namba/Dotonbori and near the places you like to go in the video. Or would it be better to live more in north around namba station? Thank you for your advice ;)

Thanks for the comment Kevin ^^ leave? you mean convenient place to say good buy?🤔 I think it would be better near the station such as Namba, or Shinimamiya. If you are speaking of the place to stay, near Dotonbori area is a convenient place to stay😉! Hope it helps😊

Thanks for the comment Annie ^^ Don't worry Annie, Japan's safety standard is so high, so even it's not safe as other places, still it's okay😊! You might see "interesting people" there, but most likely they don't do anything, and some people might be really friendly as well😆! If you worry about it, then just stay away from Airin area in Nishinari-ku😉
