    #1 - "There are actually 3 documented reasons, and it's unkown which is correct." So what you're saying is that you don't know what they are for either? Oh boy I can't wait to watch the rest of this video.

    MaiAolei That seriously made me laugh... like, for the students to do that, the loops had to have been there already... which means they were put on there for a different purpose. "List channels" these days...

  • @freezEware

    @freezEware

    7 жыл бұрын

    you didn't even try to understand what he was saying? there are three different documented use cases people have had for it, but it is vague to say which one is correct. I would say the loop in the shirt is used by the manufacturers to do something with the shirt before it's finished.

  • @ZombieBarioth

    @ZombieBarioth

    7 жыл бұрын

    Thanks captain obvious, but vague and unknown pretty much mean the same thing, its not known. If you're not sure if you're even right, then how can you be so sure you're not wrong either? The students using it to signal they're going steady is pretty much like saying hanging a sock on the door as a do not enter sign one of it's intended uses. That's pretty much the exact opposite, its code.

    When I was in grade school in the mid 60's, the loop on the back of the shirt was called a fairy loop. The loop isn't sewed, so it could be pulled out with a good tug. If you still had the loop on your shirt, that meant that no one had the guts to take it from you. ie you were a bad ass.

    The primary purpose for the hole in a pen lid is to prevent air pressure forcing ink down the channel of the ink tube when the lid is placed on the pen. Without the hole, when the lid is put on, there would be no where for the air in the lid to go, so it would put pressure on the ball in the point of the pen and force the ink down the tube, creating an air lock and preventing ink flow the next time the pen is used. I can't imagine shirt manufacturers adding a loop to a shirt for the purpose of college students to indicate their relationship status. This is an adapted use.

    ka da The hole was not always there. When i was a child it used to be solid. I remember pens that would not always work directly after opening the cap. Only after shaking and scribbling a lot. But i still think the reason for the hole is to relieve pressure when placing the cap on, other wise the pen will not work every time you open it, and that would put the manufacturer in a bad light.

    Be cool if you actually would have done research and realized that yes, the loop on a shirt came from sailors, who used it to hang up their shirts while changing. Also, hangers are a pretty recent invention, not really used until the 20th century. The loops are, in fact, for hanging up shirts.

    Actually, the rivets in jeans were initially a joke. Levi Strauss wanted something different and new for consumers and one of their designers, as a joke, added the rivets. They ended up liking the look of the design so they stuck ever since. At least that's what I heard a long time ago from a shoestring relative of Strauss who came to speak to my Cub Scout troop.

    They didn't explain the hole in the spaghetti spoon very well. By "measure out one serving" they mean measure out *uncooked* spaghetti. The amount of uncooked spaghetti that fits in the hole is the equivalent of one cooked serving. It's much easier than using a separate spaghetti measuring tool, which works the same way. Need 10 servings? Measure out 10 times. You don't need a bigger hole. Now I crave spaghetti. 🍝

    The hole in the spaghetti spoon is actually not for a portion. Its just the most simply way to make water drain. Some spoons have several small holes, or slits for this purpose. And the holes are of different sizes with different spoons. The Loop on the back of a shirt is also really just to hang it up, the school story is complete and utter bullshit. Its used because in lockers you usually can't use clothes hangers, it was made popular during the 1960s. And its even called "Locker Hanger" Stop making shit up and believing stuff you saw on 9 gag.

    Exactly. Not sure where he came up with this nonsense. I use that to hang my shirts in the locker at gym after work. It's better to hang it there than on inside of shirt collar because you actually get less wrinkles and it's less stress on fabric than if hung on inside of collar.

    1: Common Knowledge (and its been well documented that its to hang the shirt) 2: Common Knowledge to anyone that understands basic electricity. 3: Knew It, but only because of a video I saw a few years ago. 4: Wrong, Blue part of eraser is a coarser grit then the red and is designed for use on heavier weight paper and darker marks, while the red is designed for lighter weight papers (standard notebook paper) and precise erasing. 5: Wrong again, they are there to lock in your heel (also called a lace lock) and has nothing to do with the ankle. Its so you don't smash your toes against the front of the shoe, which is known to cause black toenails. 6: BS, I challenge you to find any 2 manufacturers to have the same diameter hole (or even same size spoon). That was an false internet meme that went viral. Its so you get less resistance when stirring the noodles and to drain off the water. 7: Common Knowledge 8: Never knew that, but at the same time, don't trust a word you say..lol 9: Wrong again, the hole in the cap literally is to comply with international safety standards. BIC did the hole before the safety standards becauce they found it equalized pressure and prevented the pen from leaking. Go ahead and contact BIC if you want proof 10: Common Knowledge Video was meant to be informative, but you managed to make it entertaining for an entire different reason. Thanks

    Interesting "things", a lot of them had unsatisfactory explanations though. The Cable Cylinder for example nullifies static electromagnetic noise? What would happen if it wasn't there? The Spaghetti spoon hole is to measure a serving? That doesn't even make sense. Of course it's to drain out the water. The Pencap hole is so that the whole cap is not absorbed by mucus? How does that work mechanically exactly? The bits of fabric that come with clothe can be washed first to see what they react to washing like? Does that make sense? Unless the color actually changed I don't think you could tell if the wash shrank or ruined your piece of fabric much.

    I'm 100% sure that is exactly what it is not for. It does not take a genius to figure out a serving, It has been around for a long ass time. No one wants water in there spaghetti so it's only natural to put a few holes in the bottom of the spoon. Also no two brands of spoons have the same types of holes so its not consistent with servings. Some spoons have a lot of small holes, how does that help measure a serving? It doesn't.

    The hole in the top of the pen is actually there to stop the ink leaking, if you were to put on a lid with no hole and totally seal off the pen then the pressure would build up leading to the pen exploding/leaking

    You're supposed to stick the spaghetti through the hole before you boil them. When they're stiff and straight the bundle should just barely be able to fit through the whole, and when you boil that amount it is the average serving size. I don't know about the shirt loop though.

    I actually think pocket watches are pretty neat. They can have awesome designs on the back and can even be found at dollar type stores for little money at all! Even the cheap ones can have great designs. I had one that cost less than ten dollars that had a three dimensional design that was an eagle holding a US flag on a short flag pole. Way more variety in pocket watches than in wristwatches if you ask me. Hmm...I've been thinking of starting a collection and have now decided to make it pocket watches! LOL

    Clayjarazn I can't blame you for using a pocket watch. For some reason, I've gotten to where I can't have a wristwatch on because it bothers my wrist. Maybe it is because I have two different types of arthritis...just don't really know for sure. Plus, you can find some really neat looking pocket watches for not that much money. :-)

    #9 is wrong. The hole in the pen cap is to let air escape when it's being placed on the pen. Otherwise, the air pressure inside it would prevent the cap from going on all the way or push it off later. The hole is also on aerosol can caps.

    @young... Seriously, think before you comment. It prevents choking by LETTING AIR THROUGH. There was a major campaign about this in the media when I was at school, previously they didn't have holes. Also at this time in history retailers plactic bags didn't have holes in them. Presumably you can't see how this would prevent suffocation either.

    And for all these years I've been wearing my tie on the front...Here I always thought the loop was a pony tail tamer. Really gang... The loop is called a "locker loop" and it is for hanging. If you hang a dress shirts by the collar it will distort them. Hanging it at the back, where it is under pressure from the shoulders when worn, will quickly smooth out any hanging wrinkles. And the watch pocket was kept and was later referred to as a key pocket. It keeps a key separate from other crap in your pocket so it's easy to find. If you have a few keys together, the pocket keeps them from rattling arounnd in the main pocket.

    I was thinking the same thing about the little pocket. In fact a lot of people call it a coin pocket for that very reason. I'm weird and already knew it was originally designed to hold a pocket watch, so I have always called it a watch pocket.

    07: watch pocket, to keep other pocket contents from damaging your watch, and make it easier to get your watch out, & without dumping out your other pocket contents. Nowadays, it does the same for your change, and helps your pockets last longer than if you let a lot of change collect at the bottom tip of the long pocket.
