10 Things to Do In Detroit (Places to Visit)

10 Things To Do In Detroit as well as the best places to visit. If you are thinking of taking a tourist trip, if you are thinking of moving to Detroit, or if you happen to be living in Detroit already, but have not quite explored the city yet, this video is for you. I list 10 of my favorite places, which are also Detroit staples. Ranging from the Spirit of Detroit, Belle Isles, Hart plaza, all the way down to the Motown museum to name a few. Giving you some insight on these areas from a native Detroiters perspective. Detroit has so much to offer, that I could have made this video a top 20 list. I talk about a bunch of cool places in Downtown Detroit, as well as some that are tucked away in the neighborhoods of Detroit.
I made this video because no one ever really highlights all the good things Detroit has to offer, especially Downtown Detroit. When Detroit is mentioned only the bad seems like its cool to talk about. This happens so much, that people don't even realize that there is so much cool history, and activities right inside the Detroit City limits. Detroit was once a top 5 city in the entire country, and we are clawing our way back to those glory days one development at a time. There are so many people moving to Detroit everyday because they want to be a part of history, and the resurgence that is taking place in America's Comeback city.
Here are some time stamps for the places listed in the video:
0:00 Intro
1:05 Belle Isle
2:20 Spirit of Detroit
2:55 Joe Louis Fist
3:20 Hart Plaza
4:00 Campus Martius
4:45 Motown Museum
5:30 Renaissance Center
6:35 Greektown
7:15 Sports Stadiums/ Tailgating
8:10 Outro
If you're thinking of making a move to Metro Detroit, lets talk about how I can help make the transition easy for you!

Ed, Good review...I am now 72 years old. I came to Detroit at the age of 6, 1955 from NYC. I saw a lot of change. I lived mostly in Indian Village but we did live two years in Lafayette Park when it was new. The Bob Lo boats were something I enjoyed more than anything. I worked at the Michigan Theater and Madison before working at Dodge Truck. I see you have an M on your clothing. I had season tickets to Michigan Football...never had more fun. I live in South Carolina now because I must but wonderful people here. I lived the last 25 years in Phoenix/Scottsdale, AZ. I loved it. Thanks for the good review and best wishes....And Yes, There are so many wonderful people in Detroit. I remember when they installed The Spirit Of Detroit Statue.

My first visit to Detroit I was blown away by how awesome Detroit is. I have returned many times for baseball and football games, casinos, and just to visit great restaurants, breweries, and distilleries. Corktown is my favorite place to visit for food and drinks.

You should have mentioned the People Mover between RenCen and Greektown since those are both stops. Besides giving incredible views, the artwork in each station is an attraction itself. And while many people say it's pointless, I cant tell you how many Uber riders I've had that could have used it without knowing. It also works well to attend a sports game or major event without having to pay the most expensive parking at adjacent lots or deal with much of the traffic leaving afterward.

Bruh. I just had a random flash back about the "Giant Slide". Maaaaaan...listen...lol. That thing was DANGEROUS! And if you didn't grow some hair on yo' chest after one ride...I'm tellin' ya'. Looking back, at my age, I should have never been on the damn thing but you don't know no better. There was never a time you didn't walk away with a few bruises on your body. People would catch air and wipe out all the time, scrap and bleed, then laugh that shit off, put a bandaid or cast on the trouble area and go back up and do it again lol. It was SUPER packed, every time we went. It wasn't metal, though. The slide itself was made out of wood. The climb up...then just 'standing there waiting for your turn' and siking yourself up to do it every time...it NEVER got easier. It's where boys went to become men! The ice cream truck and snack section nearby on summer days...kids and adults both were going on the thing. What the hell were we thinking back then?! It's sad that people started complaining about getting a little pain for a lot of fun. Everything is too PG. It's sad that slide is a shador of it's former self...the whole park for that matter is nothing like it used to be. Clean. Safe. Always something to do. An actual zoo if I remember correctly...alll gone. Oh. I know you remember this one. Auntie Ann's Donut shop on woodward! Krispy Kreme and Dunkin ain't got NOTHING on Auntie Ann's cream-filled donuts. Anyways, this was a great memory. Sad future generations will never know what it's like and should be.

I enjoyed your video, but I feel you have missed by far Detroit's greatest tourist attraction The Ford Assembly Plant in Dearborn MI. I visited the Motown Museum and Greektown as well which was quite good but nowhere as good as The Ford Factory Tour. Walking around the viewing gallery there are tour guides at each point of manufacture. I found the guides both very knowledgeable and helpful and they never hurried me up as there are no time limits if you want to take more time to watch any special aspect of the manufacturing process. I think the tour closes at 4-30 PM so make sure you arrive early enough to take in the whole experience. The tour is closed Sundays and check the web page for days through the year when other days the tour is closed. I spent 3 hours there on the viewing walkway. Food may be purchased on the area but not on the walkway.

@@ilahildasissac1943 When I go back to visit I do see some improvements and the city is trying to make a come back. I was just watching "The Making of Motown" last night and literally got homesick. I then realized the place I am homesick for no longer exists. 😞 I do hope the city can be fully alive again but at the same time I don't want to see it done through gentrification....yet again.

The parade is 3-4 hours and it takes place on Woodward Ave. Auto Show (North American International Auto Show) held at TCF Center (Cobo Hall) Riverfront (Riverwalk) which is located directly behind GM Renaissance Center and as of today was name best riverwalk in America by USA Today.

The nightlife is very fun especially in the summertime. Many restaurants, sports, Campus Martius, music festivals, concerts at the Fox, the Riverwalk. Plenty to do. Unfortunately, every now and then you have rowdy fools who fight and destroy the peaceful vibe. It's not an every day occurrence. Downtown is plenty of fun.
