I never judge people if they forget my name, I've done it multiple times myself, when interacting with many people it's totally normal to forget. It makes a strong impression when somebody remembers your name right off the bat though! Some people are lucky and can remember so much random information with little input!

@@jonathanbarragan6256 Maybe you're scared away from making an impression at all. That's actually worse for you than making a bad impression sometimes in your honesty about yourself. I've often made an impression, where someone isn't sure if they want to be nice or hit me... but we end up having a great time because I undermine "rules" like these. I go against the grain, and the people I meet realize they can be freed of social pressures, too. They get to relax and just be themselves, and in cases where our friendship might not be "a good fit", we can work toward "measured doses" of each other, or just move on... as needs be. You should look toward making an impression, for better or worse. At least they take notice. ;o)

One that always throws me every time is when the person 'listens' only to reply. They have absolutely no intention of absorbing what you just said, especially if it's something serious. They wait for you to finish so they can steam roll the conversation the way they want to..' Example: Me : "-So that's why I'm afraid of dogs..." Person : "Mmm. You know one time I met this dog and he was so cool, he-" ughhhhh....

No eye contact, constantly looking at your phone, and constantly talking about yourself or shifting the conversation about you are the biggest impression killers for me. I walked out on a date once because this girl and I met up at a restaurant and the entire time she was glued to her phone. I ordered my food and after a few minutes of this girl not giving me the time of day, I upped and left 😂

My eyes are really watery in general and its super annoying. People say its cause my tears are overflowing cause i dont cry ever, but if they get watery all the time they should empty themselves out eventually. Others say its an infection, or "dry eyes" which you have to take eye drops for. Im thinking its dry eyes, but i suck with taking eye drops, or just putting anything on my eyes in general

I can´t multitask and talking and looking in the eyes are two things at the same time, so I can´t do it. I´m overstimulated and don´t know what the other person is talking about if I focus on eyecontact.

I am seeing some very depricating comments. To anyone who needs this, always remember: Loving yourself is not narcissistic. Confidence is not cocky. Happiness is not selfish. I agree. This is the reason I don't believe in "First impression" as us humans are very complex beings. It takes more time than to just get to know the person whole & sole. This first impression may give you a glimpse of that person's personality but it's just a "glimpse" You'll never know which person is good or bad if you just relied on this 1st impression thingy (sorry I'm too lazy to write "first" 😅).

Tell me about it. The main way I go about social interactions is I focus my attention outward/ on the other person and I try to ignore how I'm portraying myself. This also allows you to respond to non verbal signs as well as having a better judge on someone's character. You don't have to pay much attention to yourself at all.

i always end up forgetting how to communicate with humans on meeting one. _sigh._

I find myself making first impressions FREQUENTLY and these are spot on. Forgetting a name though is usually forgiven and met with, “I’m so bad with names too.” As a former ball of shy, I found that practice has made all of this easier. Sucks at first, but getting good at this is definitely very rewarding.

True. You definitely don’t want to be misunderstood from the off (fewer things are more painful) but you can help yourself in that regard. Job-interviews are usually fine for people who otherwise make iffy first impressions because of social anxiety/awkwardness but when it comes to more intimate/personal social impressions body language can make or break it. It’s something pretty-much all of us have to learn to work on throughout our lives.

Hi may I ask how to deal with a low voice? For me its almost impossible for me to do a presentation properly. To be honest I can barely do a high note everytime Im asigned to do a high note for a group musical thingy in class and no matter how much I want to do it I still cant

That’s probably anxiety not introversion. Introversion is when you can talk to a person without being awkward but yet choose not to

Eye contact isn't important for me. (a person with autism spectrum disorders or there is a shrinking violet. introvert and shy is ok. But talk a person about fake news, rassism and sexism Theroie, or is violence and belief in national socialism idealism, that isn't ok - and destroy the first impression immediately and forever.

I always say to my friend 'i hope i die already' they laugh at me i hope they understand that im not joking

I have discovered in the last 3 years that I talk more than people want to listen 😉, when I am anxious. Might have ruined a first coffee date with someone to whom I was super attracted. I loved the idea of repeating someone's name, when we introduce ourselves...I generally don't remember first names until I have said them 3 times. Also, your guideline around 20 minutes being too long for storytelling is great! I come from a long line of southern sit-on-the-porch story tellers. 😉

I used to be so bad at talking, especially in elementary & middle school. It was private school & people were really mean & blunt. They would immediately tell me to stop talking so much & critsize everything. Wasn't till I switched schools & in high school & young adult life I could have some confidence to really try to talk & have good, meaningful conversations with people.

Yeah, I can strongly relate to a lot of the points in this video.

I always found long-story answers were very interesting and intriguing 🤔 I actually prefer longer answers rather than short and simple ones because it goes more into depth and it keeps the conversation longer. Another reason is that it can show how passionate they are about the topic! (If they're not having trouble explaining. Passion is something I always look for!) I somewhat, naturally, think that if someone gives a quick answer, then it shows to me that they don't care enough about my question or it wasn't that engaging 🤔
