@Sue Sue I was just about to ask also. ….I’m 5’3 measurements currently (winter)34-29-37 DDD not sure weight/no scale. …i like girly flowing clothes I can layer due to sudden weather changes here even in summer, any suggestions or model type to copy?
I am also French and I learnt at a very early age what suits me. At the age of 82 ,I was told that I was the most elegant, even walking my dog in the park.

Hello how are you doing?
I come from a family of Spanish dressmakers and I learned at a young age to dress well. I don’t dress based on fashion but in classic styles. If you want to wear loose clothes, you want to avoid thick fabrics. Think luxurious fabrics like fine jersey or silk and pull in with a belt in the SAME colour. Single colours work well to add height.
@dawnfrancis2247

I always have to alter things to fit and some times loose the shape so buy in a petite range 3 quater sleeves are great no adjust ment needed dresses have a long waist ruched top of the dress are more flexible and enhance the bust (or as in my case lack of ) I tend to wear one colour or tone of colour other wise it breaks me in half making me appear shorter no ankle strap shoes as it makes your legs shorter again . I put a large roller in the top of my hair spray the root with hair spray or salt spray to and a slight bit of height. I think it quite nice being tiny as people assume your younger good luck every one

Frederique, another petite here at 5’. I discovered what works well for me. Many of the tips you gave are on point. I try to keep the color palate neutral, black, white, grey with a pop of cranberry. When I travel to somewhere tropical of course I’ll all some color to my tops and sundresses. Jewelry, refined and classy. I never wear anything that overpowers me. I have to say one thing, it’s getting harder and harder to find clothing in my size at the store. They are selling petite sizes more and more online only. Anyone else running into this problem? I’m in the US. Don’t know the situation in Australia or in other countries.

Hi, lately I’ve been buying my petite clothing through Poshmark because it’s almost impossible to find clothing that I like that fits me. I know my exact measurements, and so I ask the Seller for measurements of each garment. If the seller doesn’t give them, then I don’t buy. I don’t buy any garment that is badly photographed so you can’t see what it really looks like. You have to hunt sometimes, but I often find some fabulous buys at a low price.

Ditto on trying to find petite clothing in the U.S. Everything looks like grannies or teeny boppers. What petite wants to be smothered up in ruffles and tiers!!?? Perhaps those who have found great sources, in stores or online, for petite clothing that is stylish and actually wearable could give us a shout out!

@@katem3961 In the US I like Banana Republic for work basics. They offer a variety of pants according to body shape. Different cuts as well as mid rise and high rise. I love that they have petite sizes in 00, 0, 2,4,6,8,10,12,14. For me it's important since I wear petite 00. I also like Athleta, Nordstrom, and sometimes The Rack. A few other online stores as well. Good luck petite ladies.

I think cropped pants are ok, if worn with same colour top. Not sure sure if I'm right, but I think, this way it would create a long line, from shoulder to mid, or lower calf, breeze for the summer.

Welcome!!
As a tres petite, the best tip I can give is to find a great tailor. Perfect fit is key, and not just length but through bust and shoulders and in the seat of pants as well. I've learned I can't wear wide legged pants. They just make me legs look shorter. The one exception is a great pair of silky pants, palazzo or other, that have a great drape and movement in the fabric. But having clothes tailored to your unique body will make you look like a million bucks! Thank you for your wonderful helpful and stylish videos!

Agreed. Just the name is a tip-off! How could a balloon look good on anyone!
I’m 4’11” and weigh 103 lbs and every oversized looks horrible on me. It took many bad purchases to figure this out. Skinny jeans are my best friend, and have decided to go back to buying them. Making sure my waist is always visible makes a huge difference. I’m also going to o start doing more monochrome outfits. 😊
Great tips here. I agree, wearing the flowery couch cover never looks good on anybody! 🙄
I’m only borderline petite-height, not slim, and don’t have a flat tummy, but I always tuck in my tops. The improvement in visual proportions overrides all other considerations. I used to wear a lot of tunics over leggings and always felt frumpy and dumpy, then I realized this combo made my legs look stumpy and just killed my female shape, making me look like a brick on two sticks. Regardless of lumps and bumps, we all have them, just try it, the difference is amazing.
I laughed so hard when you said balloon jeans make you look like you pooped in your pants 😂. Thank you for great tips and for making it so fun!

Hello how are you doing?
Yes! I would add mid-length sports leggings, they just cut the leg in a not-so-nice place, I would also add ankle strap heels (if the color is too dark), it can also cut the leg instead of elongating it.

Hi Frederique. I am 5'1" and in my late sixties and it took me a long long time to realise baggy tops and long jackets make me look smaller (😂 if that's possible ) I don't wear tops or jackets longer than 25" max length. Love watching your videos and always some helpful advice. 🌹

Love the fashion content too! Many years ago while walking to class, one of my heels got caught in between the sidewalk and as I lifted my foot the heel broke off, and for the rest of the day I kinda limped around! Lol, in hind sight I should have had my ballet flats packed in my backpack- ballet 101! True story!
Nude or beige shoes do wonders for petite women. I'm 5'5", so not very petite, but they work for anybody who wants length to their silhouette. Also, chunky sneakers look great with boyfriend fit jeans that aren't cropped, so a bit long, and paired with fitted v-neck tshirts and hair tied up in a pony tail or a bun. Monochromatic colour schemes also make you look long and slender. Same sort of shade on top and bottom, Denim on denim, black on black, shades of beige or greys, all look good!

I’m five feet nothing (152 cm), size 8-10, curvy and very short-waisted. I agree with your tips but my extra tip is that anything with too much volume is just going to swamp us shorties. Its taken me years to realise that some styles just won’t work on me. If you’re taller I think you can get away with more but there’s no optical illusion when you’re short and none of us want to look like a short, round beach ball!
@tinalettieri
2 жыл бұрын
I'm 5'2" also an 8-10, except that I'm long waisted. I never wear set in waists, they are too short for me. I look for what used to be called "princess" style. I don't know the current name but basically it is a line that skims the body with no separation at the waist. Also, asymetrical, think wrap dresses look good because the front is slightly draped and doesn't cut me at the waist. I don't try for optical illusions and I embrace being small because what else can I do? I'm a little taller than my grandma was and a little shorter than my mom was. "Good things come in small packages."

I am 4'10" long waisted. I make most of my own clothes because I wear a 5/6. I took sewing and design.
I am 5'1" and agree with your tips! I do think as petites we need to also look at our body shape when dressing. I am an inverted triangle and can not wear any type of skinny or straight leg jeans or I look very top heavy. I have tried to be much more intentional when purchasing clothes. One of my personal tips is to stay away from shoes with ankle straps, they seem to make petite legs look shorter. Thanks again for all your advice, I love your channel!

Oh I forgot to mention my rule of thumb on blazers- it's too long for me if it is lower than my crotch. If it stops even low on the hips it highlights the legs. The minute it touches the top of the thigh it's too long. Anything either a defined waist is a plus!

Thank you so much for a video on petites!!! I am just under 5 ft, and athletic build with round bum, so finding clothing combinations that suit me and dont completely overwhelm my silhouette has been a very challenging journey. These tips are extremely helpful. ❤❤❤
As a petite woman, I think every one of these tips is on the mark. A long blazer will rob you of your legs. Voluminous pants, dress or top will make you look wider than you are long. Big boots or shoes will look too heavy and a large bag will look like it is carrying you. Even jewelry and scarves that are too large will make you look lost. If you are small in stature, think small in your wardrobe choices and large in your aspirations.

I am 4’10” and Loved your video! I agree with you about the balancing our outfits. I Love heels , no sky high. 3.5 or less perfect! ❤
As someone who's 4'9, I always wear straight leg high rise pants, since I'm way heavier around the hips and skinny jeans are a no-no for me. I like wearing heels too.
So love this… I’m petit(5 2”) too and I’m taking notes. Always love big bags will have hard time changing that
I am 5’3 so thank you for the great ideas and tips. Love your top. It is beautiful on you!
I look like I’m in the casket in tan, beige, oatmeal , pastels etc. I just glow in jewel tones, black, navy and white. Just finding a good fit on my size 10, 4’ 11” frame is a challenge. These tips are helpful
All your tips are spot on for me. I really follow all of them especially the big pants, they have to be a slim straight style to look even remotely flattering and proportional. I do the same rule of color but I love colorful purses - that’s my pop of color I knock out with. Thank you 😊

Ty for this fashion tip. 😘 I two long closets full of clothes, most I don't wear because although I love the garment, it just doesn't look right on me! Now, I know why! Running to my closet this morning to sift out the wrong choices and leave the ones I'm most likely to wear. As I told you before, I went to a hair stylist, and lost almost 10 pounds. I haven't dropped a size, it's just the clothes in the closet now look sooo much better on me!! 🥰
Excellent video. I so agree with everything, especially the clunky shoes, big bags, too-long hair, too-big blazers and clown pants. I do need a big bag for work, so every weekend, I switch to a smaller bag for going out, then Sunday night, go back to the big bag. I tried having two bags, but it is just easier to get everything into one, including my laptop, chargers, etc.
Both videos on different lady sizes... Very tactful and sensitive.Awesome advice as usual.. Merci xxx

Your tips are spot on! I'm 5'1 and skinny jeans/pants and well fitting, proportioned blazers have been my jam for years. I find that fit and cut will make or break an outfit for me. I cannot wear anything oversized, asymmetrical or poofy. Straight lines or boxy fits are a no-no for me. Waist definition is key and makes such a huge difference for me. ❤️

Interesting! I came to many of these conclusions by trial and error. One thing stood out for me: the blazers! I bought a few blazers for work, which were sort of expensive, well-made etc. but in the end, they were too long. Sort of overwhelming. Short ones are nice. Agree! This was very good! Thanks!
You are fabulous!! Thank you for sharing your tips & wisdom for petite women. Blessed Be✨🌻👑

I think you have to be 510 and above to rock that oversize blazer look

I am 5'5 and most of my blazers are oversized,I love them.I also love chunky shoes and I think they work. I generally don't view my self as petite, maybe because you won't find that many women taller than 5'5 wear I live.

As pessoas dizem que eu sou chata com roupa, mas na verdade eu sou consciente do meu corpo e sei como as roupas mudam as formas e proporções dele. Amei o seu canal ❤️🇧🇷
Wonderful video! I have been watchng your other videos and I am so pleased to have found this. I'm 5'3" so this was right up my alley. I'm so glad i found your channel.
Absolutely agree with every single advice out of your ten recommendations. Thank you!
Love your style, Frederique! Simple. Classic. Practical. Thank you!👍

Hi Sunshine. I have also discovered this channel. French must have a style gene they are born with! Chic! I am about 4ft 10in. I like to go for understated elegance, after all, less is more.
As a petite all suggestions and tips are very accurate in my own experience, Frédérique. I wouldn't wear them again but I did many years ago (oversized jeans jacket, baggy jeans). They weren't flattering on me even though I was younger and slimmer. 👍❤
I've watched a number of your videos but never realized that you are a petite (like me). I agree with all your tips! Thank you!
I'm 5'2 and have always been careful not to wear over sized clothes, trying anything like that on makes me feel like being a child again playing dress up in my mum's old clothes!
Dear Federique, I agree with you about Xmas tree accessories
Thank you Frederique! Another great video. 🙌🏻❤️
I LOVE your black top in the video as well as your other outfits. You have great style! Thanks for the tips!🥰
I am also 5’2”! Great tips that I use except I have thick ankles and if I am showing my ankle, a chunkier shoe sometimes helps my ankles look slimmer. It’s not easy for really short people that have an hourglass figure also. But you can dress to make yourself look taller and slimmer! Thanks for showing how to do that!

Yes monochrome top and bottoms same color any color works well for me body skimming is important not loose and baggy anywhere. I am 5ft.4in and people think I am 5ft 6in bec I work at that...hubby is 6ft 2in so I always want to look a bit taller standing next to him.

Frédéric, I found your videos by accident! Usually, I follow French Chic videos for other French ladies (without mentioning names). But you are so different! I love your videos 1👍
Excellent! I really appreciate the way you explain and add a sense of humor, too. I agree with everything you exhibited as examples of wrong outfits, etc. 😀

Yes I agree with Balloon pants. I find them very hard to wear,I’m way too short. Thank you for this video
My mom is petite and she was always careful about the length and silhouette of skirts and jackets. I think whatever your height, watch your hemlines. It looks terrible if your pants hemline is too short or too long. Tailoring is an important step and keeps you from looking sloppy.
Being a short person I agree with you in being careful not to be overwhelmed by some clothing. But most women know immediately they try something on whether it suits or not... I love heels but no longer can wear so I spend a lot of time searching for the right flats.. thankyou so much x
I learned common sense to dress! Proportion and volume is the key! Thanks for the tips!

You're so welcome!
I love your joie de vivre and candour, Frédérique. You have me rolling with laughter at some of your off-the-cuff, parenthetical comments, eg. "I was drunk, I have to admit," always delivered in the best humour. (By the way, I'm also 160 cm., and that's 63" or 5'3".)
This was excellent advice! I’m 5’4 at 60 years of age. After many years and trial and error, I have found these 10 principles to be true. We petite wonders of the world, need to accentuate our positive attributes. We just don’t have the height to dress like tall women. We are still beautiful and sexy!

Frédérique, my dear, I'm petite as you are and I like it! Agree with you that we are fragile and it is why tall men are attracted to us😊. Yes, everything should be on the balance. I wear small heels and feel comfortable or no heels and also feel comfortable:). I just bought a very nice "boyfriend" jeans in a beautiful dark navy color and they look good with basic white top from Agnès B.😊 So wonderful to see you! Have a great day!xxx
Agree with all these, especially the oversized blazers and chunky shoes . I do like a shorter, fitted blazer though and have a few that really flatter me.
I sprained my ankle so bad because of high heels years ago, I had to wear an orthopedic boot for 3 months 😭 I am 5 ft sharp...never again! I go for chunky heels which make me feel safe. Great tips!!
Thanks so much for these tips. Not having SO much money to spend on clothes, I feel it's important to get the choices right. I like to wear a bit of colour, but mixed with my neutrals. I really like bootcut jeans, and I also like wide pants, but they need to be elevated a bit with a heel or they drag on the ground! I went through a chunky shoes phase and they looked horrendous, in retrospect 😂.
Am so glad to hear about lesser accessories and limiting to a max of 3 colors. Less is always more, on petite frames

Hello how are you doing?
I agree any clothes that are baggy look bad. It looks nice if your clothes are fitted without being tight. Love your tips.
Such reassuring suggestions! Has really helped me feel good and I needed that more than you know... Thank you.
Love this video!! Can we please have more petite video tips? The biggest one for me is sleeves, I’m about to get a couple of my blazer sleeves tailored. Also, this video has now made me have second thoughts on my oversized leather moto jacket I bought months ago… 😬
Merci Frederique! Would love to have you as my big sister. I don't have one and I am 5'2 petite :) I would say monochrome colors usually make a difference for me, nice scarf on my neck and I look taller :))

I love watching your channel. Love your humor and you are always uplifting and look lovely all the time. Keep up the good work!
Hello! These are great tips! I do tend to dress simply, in monochromatic dark colors. Not too loose, but definitely no spandex. I wear boots, but not heels, typically, because of my work and lifestyle. Plus, I'm 5ft tall and nothing in the world is going to hide that difference. My hair is long, because it grows and I can donate it. It's also not unusual for women here to have long hair. I also wear it up and have fun with different styles between cuts. I do love the leopard prints and am considering adding a scarf or accessories in that.
Thank you for these tips! I am also 5’ 2”” I didn’t know about the blazers, but had always wondered why they never seemed to look good on me. Now I know!
Try being short AND curvy! 5’3’’and pear shaped over here! I call myself a “teapot” - short and stout. 🤣 Yes 🙌🏾 on the point about blazers swallowing up petite frames and yes I make them work by sticking with the shorter fitted ones and even tailoring the chest part to get the right proportions. Because I’m bottom heavy, i go with a straight leg pant and its a great middle ground between too skinny and too baggy. Also such a good point about too much jewelry! I always felt that it was hard for me to wear as much jewelry as others and now I know I wasn’t just imagining it! 🤣 Thanks Auntie Frederique! ❤️

Me too, 5"2' and I have double DD's And the heavy hair issue yes again, I have heavy very thick curly hair and I wear it up most of the time at home. But when I do go out trying to find a style that shows off my curls and what is left of my red. Its turning grey. Has been layers to my shoulders no longer. I used to be able to wear the blazer and cotton pants when Miami Vice was hot and I was too. Damn that was a long time ago 😕 I will be happy to still be kicking and best of luck to all the other teapots 🫖🍵

Pear shaped here at 4' 11". Hard to find clothing that agrees with proportions. Hem the jeans , yup. But tops that are in the " petite " section assume that petite means skinny. Hard to find the right clothing.
👍 It’s past 3:30 am in the state of Florida and I can’t stop watching your videos
I loved this video, and I plan to watch more (this is the second one I have seen of yours). Thank you so much for making them . . . the tips are very helpful. I always wonder why people leave comments such as "I wear whatever I like". If you aren't looking for suggestions and ideas, why are you clicking on and watching these videos? I appreciate so much the time and effort it takes someone to put these together, and they usually have great ideas. So thank you!
