I was thinking the same. I personally like house just as much as hardcore, but they're pretty different, yet you can still actually blend them in a set.

He’s referring to narrowing down your goal. Sure you can love all music but realistically you aren’t going to hire a well known Latin music/club DJ for a house show at a big venue. Promoters are looking for people well known in that specific genre(s) that will attract more of the same crowd to the show. There are a few exceptions since diversity is so much more common now n days but overall you have to stick to your specialty if you want to reach the highest levels of it .

Straight forward!

Define "using synch", I use this button to set the track speed but then start the track and use nudge to line up the track. Couldnt care less if thats seen as issue by some.

If you are still having to use the jog wheels to line your tracks up when you have your sync on, then you're not using it right. The sync button does match up the bpms of the two tracks you are prepared to mix, but they also automatically beatmatch the two songs when you hit play on the second track you are prepared to mix in, hence why some DJs hate it, because it takes away the skill of beatmatching properly

@@haydenfraser3035 lol I can use the synch button as I like just the same with any of the tools available. I know why some djs hate it and I know why some hate CDJS, mp3 etc its non-vinyl snobbery. Its people who genuinely think they have superior skills because they beat match manually. Its a hangover from the vinyl days when that may have mattered. Synch is beatmatching. Where you decide to drop in the next track has very little to do with it.

They are standalone, people mostly play with sticks but they also have a slot for an SD card. You can also use them as controllers for serato 🤘

For all Beginner DJs learn to Mix without Syncing wen you learn it do wat you want ,and if possible learn in the first time to mix with Vinyl Records thats the roots of deejaying

Being a DJ is not a career path (even on the radio). I started DJing in the early 70s in clubs and on the radio. I spent 20 years on the air on stations in major markets in the US. Then came satellite radio, the Internet, and automation and those jobs went poof! Better to spend your time learning how to make music and then, if your music is good enough, maybe someone will want you to perform behind the decks. Of course, if you are a wedding DJ, you may not be considered to be "hip" or "with it" but you can make anywhere between $50 and $350 an hour. Better than playing for free!

Tony Thomas yeah that’s over seas man. I’m a radio and a club dj. I make 500 a set I dj 4 times a night. Work on promotions and imaging gross around 35K a year not to mention a podcast that also generates. But not every one is cut out to hustle to make a career

You must research deeper into djing, it’s not just transitting from one song to another song, for me “trained” means smooth transition and fast beat matching, i’m training those skills everyday

i mix alot on my pc the only thing i dont have is the patience to wait for the track to end i start mixing en beatmatching as fast as possible just because i can wait and get bored but who cares im not a big dj i try to mix diffrent then other djs not those stupid fadez and thats when techno comes in... and i dont use fancy software like tracktor i use alcatech bpm studio

sYNC allows you to be sooooooooooo much more creative as a DJ imo. And it has been that way for years. I personally use it all the time (of course manually nudging here and there because it never gets it right) because it allows me to better choose my songs for the set and be more creative with FX because unlike you Jon, I didn't have the luxury of learning on vinyl or decks. Had to learn the craft as quickly as possible and allow myself to get better with my sets in a minimal amount of time. After several years of practicing how to make better DJ sets and follow my dreams of becoming an international DJ, I found out just as you said, you NEED to produce your own music. So now i'm here watching your videos trying to get there. Another great video Jon, as always, keep up the great work mate and I cant wait to see where your musical journey takes you. It's definitely a magical one. Cheers!

3:22 I don't agree with you on this UNLESS you have your own music out and have put a certain style and become really good at it. What I mean is that you usually book a DJ because they have attracted a certain style due to the music that they have put out and promoters and the crowd know what to expect no matter what the festival or crowd is like. Almost any other DJ that doesn't produce tend to play a wide array of sub genres (within a general genre obviously).

I know you mentioned it's almost impossible to tour around the world if you don't expand your capabilities to music production. However, how would you explain Nastia (the Ukranian DJ)? She never produced music of her own (except for like 3-4 tracks with someone else from what I recall) and she gets worldwide gigs. Not a criticism , but more of a question of how did she manage?
