The 2.8lt diesel in the colorado is the same engine in your jeep (albeit updated). Its the VM Motori engine built under licence by GM as a Duramax.

I heard that about the Colorado's from the guy I bought my Jeep from, and thought it was malarky. Then I looked it up in my (then) recent Peterson's 4wd & Off-Road magazine and they had a shot of the the motor, and I saw how there was down to the way tubing was bent across the radiator and saw it was a 2.8L

I have a Jeep Liberty 2005 3.7 6 cylinder gasoline engine with all terrain tires and two rough country cree led bars mounted on the bottom of the front bumper, and man I’ll tell you guys this car has made me a Jeep person. It’s a great ride, it’s an animal in the snow. Its very roomy, the pop up rear glass is fun since you can drive around with it open in the summer to get some more air. I’ve done some stuff to make it my own, and I take pride in driving it as a Jeep owner, and with this as my first car, I’ll never drive anything other than a Jeep.

Great vehicles, I have the 2007 model which I bought back in 2013. It now has 160 000km on the clock. I've used it to go through a number of African countries (Just got back from a 4500km trip from South Africa, to Zimbabwe, Mocambique, Malawi and back), and safaris in South Africa. I think they're one of the most underrated Jeeps. Thanks for the video!

But she’s at 214k and she still stands strong with very minor issues to the engine over the years the first gen models are certainly tough no matter which model you get

I recently purchased a 2003 3.7 and after the purchase noticed a lot of bad comments about it. Mine was 113k miles good tires body great. Had to replace sway bar links only. It squeeks and creeks in my neighborhood on the speed bumps but is pretty smooth on the road. Getting about 19mph. Also replaced rear window struts. So far i getting more fond of it daily. Out the door for 5200$. Hope it lasts as long as my grand Cherokee it replaced.

I bought one new made to order just the way I wanted it with all the goodies and took delivery of it in Oct of 01. Mine is the 3.7 L gas and it's been a great rig. Going on 18 years of ownership now and we've never kept anything longer. I might also add that we both worked in dentistry all our lives, could buy whatever we want and did, I owned Navigators, x 2, Escalade, Land Cruisers, x 3, Fourunners, Toyota, Isuzu trucks, and SUVs like the Trooper, a Cherokee, Suburban, and a x Swiss Army Pinzgauer 710M all great toys but we kept the nimble little best kept secret in the auto world over all of them! On the used market these are one of the best kept secrets in the biz! No one wants them to steal them. Jeep guys call them "Not real Jeeps" behind our backs which just makes it that much more satisfying when I pull out their "real Jeep" with my "not so real" Libby because most people get stuck because they are simply bad inexperienced drivers in my experience but anyway, the rig is flawless. In 18yrs we had a window fall down off the rail that lifts it up and down and had to pay $400 or something to fix it. That's it! Not only that but the Libby they built me with all the goodies came just the way I wanted it. They missed nothing. None of the others could say this. They all missed on something. Not this one. They got it all and it's been flawless as the Limited with command trac select trac, the limited slip which has never failed me and when we did dentistry on the Navajo Reservation with a tour there for three years in four corners USA that Libby handled everything the LandCruiers and others did just fine without any add ons or beefing up but just the way it came from Jeep! I've taken it places people laughed and said that it wouldn't go and guess what! It goes up a goat trail as good as anything with a good driver behind the wheel. Gas or diesel they are awesome. Great snags on the used market too and cheap. Buy one. Visibility is great, they are peppy, zippy, easy to park and turns on a dime! By the way the first ones in 01 and part of 02 like mine are 'pre-lowered' so mine has 1" more ground clearance than ones built after it. That is stock from the factory. Out in Arkansas where we go up the back way to get out when the river is up we drag in a few spots even with ours but the skid plates protect it. I would imagine ones stock build after ours would hang up some on the same trail as they are lower and it shows when you park one side by side to the other. Anyway, I highly recommend ours. Our Escalade was a rattle and squeak box going down the highway and within 2 years time and by 3 years old the head liner was falling down on my head! 18 years and the Libby interior is still flawless and like it was! Tell me again how bad they are! You don't know cause you didn't look deep! You will now!

I have a 2006 liberty with the 3.7 , auto trans, it has 255,000 miles on it , the engine is wisper quite no engine noises at all , runs perfect , and i use shell gas truck 5w-30 oil and change it every 5,000 miles and only burn 3/4 of a quart of oil between oil changes , amazing .. i am the second owner a woman owned it before me . I have completely rebuilt the entire drive train , a trans with 50k on it , new front shaft new rear shaft, mopar re did the rear diff, front diff was completely replaced with a 45k miles ,new mopar axels MOOG wheel bearing hubs, ball joints, upper control arms sway bar bushings everything to include the rear upper control arm or boomerang.. so from front to back all new.. but i cant bring myself to put a new motor in it because it runs so dam good and doesnt use any oil to speak of.. doesnt leak any either ,where the pan meets the block it looks a little damp with oil but no drops ever.. i put a new water pump and alternator and belt , changed crank and cam sensor just as like a maintenance thing they are cheap enough from napa.. and a fuel pump relay also because i heard they go bad and leave ya stranded so i put a good ac delco one for $60 bucks . No rust anywhere spotless underneath , i did Raptor line the bottom 8 inches of all the doors inside and out just to protect them from rust.. i mean dont get me wrong on long trips i always wonder if the engine will be ok , but wont it start using oil before it shits the bed ? Or start making noises or something to let ya know its going ? Do you agree? Now i have no idea if the woman had the engine changed at some point or not and have no way of knowing , (got it from a used car dealer) i wish i could find out . Whats your opinion ? I love the jeep got 30” tires on it custom wheels 0 off set so a little wider stance have 4” between the front tire and the fender put bilstien struts it is the “Max Tow” version , so it comes with heavy duty springs front and back extra large trans cooler , both a mechanical fan and a electric fan ,heavy duty hitch, engine oil cooler .. and 373 gear ratio.. so let me know your thoughts on the engine appreciate the input..

I know what you mean about not being able to go back. If I sell mine, and end up with something else, my project vehicle this year will probably end up being a 4x4...whereas I was hoping to have a 4x4 daily driver and buy a rwd project car. We'll see. Can't stop shopping until I sell my Liberty. As for mpg, I certainly don't get 30mpg. Hoping to hit 23 with my recent EGR delete. It's trending in the right direction. My info monitor center tells me it's upper 26s, almost 27. But that thing isn't accurate. You're totally right about it being "the entire package". You do know why they only made these for two years right?

Yup. I'm sure Chrysler financials also had something to do with it. Not sure how that coincides with Daimler vs Fiat. But yea, when VW was tricking the computer to meet EPA regs, Chrysler pulled the plug. Even though they sold every one of these they made, they just couldn't finance the R&D on such a small part of their line to get the motors to meet the new 2007 regs.

BUT... the rusty doors. need to replace them. all four. what to do about the rust I see at the threshold. crawled under the thing, one support beam is rusty also. is it worth finding a welder to fix that? or is the rust going to kill my new fun jeep ? Thanks.

My wife has a 3.7l petrol... I hate it. But she loves it so I guess it's staying with us despite its "issues". Rear tailgate won't lock, expensive to run, can't get parts here in NZ and the right hand drive drivers footwell is uncomfortable to say the least. That said, the motor is strong, it always starts and feels like you could take it anywhere. I still hate it though.

I've been doing a lot of research. You could get a VW Touareg with a 3.0 tdi AWD, that would be comparable to the Jeep, probably more expensive yes. Or the Touareg V10 Diesel, which would be the best thing out there for pulling. You can also buy an Excursion with diesel and 4wd. But that would not be great on gas, but safe in the driver's seat, still capable and long lasting. Outside of those options there are still trucks. I wouldn't even get a new diesel because of all this DEF noise.

The only benefit of this jeep is is price. Jeep made other options. If pulling is your thing grand cherokee also offered in 07 and 08 a 3.0 turbo diesel. Your diesel gets the same mpg as a newer body style 3.7 gas liberty that is larger. I understand this video is a few years old but these vehicles were still relevant when this was mad. I'm a jeep guy through and through. I have a jeep commander with the 3.7 that I get 20 mpg and could live in if I had to lol. Don't get me wrong these liberties are very capable and can be built up to be trail kings. I just feel this liberty has a small niche and your con video you just listed things that are wrong with all jeeps minus the tailgate I agree that's dumb. I've seen ls swaps in these and also other diesel swaps. It's a jeep no one loves everything about them but you can make it as good as you want it to. Best thing is like you said most parts are interchangeable across a couple of platforms.

Its pretty capable offroad being stock and I would think the 3.7 would be as well tho I cant say anything to the performance or reliability of the 3.7

Hey you im from europe, I have two. 3.7, v6 and 2.8 d, the diesel is better, it's Italian engine is not bad, it's a motor of Italy's VM engines. You must carry out a regular oil change. I add a great superfluid to the oil. It's WAGNER MICRO CERAMIC OIL. It's a great material based on ceramics and high viscosity. I have a long experience with this product. I have the silverado 1996 detroit 6.5 m and 300 000 km with this product the engine run as new. the engine does not smoke, it has no oil consumption and it has a good winter start. I have a Guard Patrol 2.8 td, there is a product and the engine goes like a watch.

10: never used it but it seems it would be so useful! 9: YES oh woo plenty of space. for how small the jeep seems in the rear, there's a bunch of room inside. 8: haha can't relate :( 7: go to a junkyard and there are so many different types of liberties that most or all of the pieces fit together its amazing. 6: i have a chrysler 3.7 no way it's gonna last too long. 5: jeepkj.com is pretty good as well 4: good stuff. not ridiculous but enough to get you just about anywhere you need. get some good tires and you'll be cruising up and down icy streets and muddy messes 3: don't have a 4 cylinder also i get 15 mpg on a good month 2: you can tow 5k and i can tow 3.5k -not bad! 1: if you look around in the market, these really are great vehicles and dont deserve all the hate they get.

I believe there used to be a kit for this, but it slowly disappeared from the market. The piston seals weren't able to handle the pressure, or something along those lines. Yes, you technically can still turbo it, but no, it probably wouldn't be a good idea!
