    I'm so glad to see this type of tips & tricks for the Syntakt. Through the last 27 years I went from software setup, to hardware setup , then back to software setup. I'm not planning to get to full hardware setup again and I only have 2 hardware left, the old Roland JV-1080 and recently the Syntakt. I bought the Syntakt for one single thing: get back to the roots with pattern sequenced music and live performances. What I do also like about a machine like the Syntakt, is the limitations that comes with it. Limitations is key to creativity I think. Thanks for this video !

    That first tip for using the FX track for transitions is so smart, I don't know why I didn't consider that before (besides using it to filter fade out everything at the end or use the overdrive). Recording a filter sweep or delay/reverb automations is really useful!

    Because the Digitact and the Digitone have been out for such a long time, it is hard for first time Elektron Syntakt users to find all the stuff you need to know because the experienced users often forget to demo important features which they themselves are already super familiar with. This video is very helpful with the new fx block but also with some old features, I really had no idea about how the sound pool was supposed to be used, and the separate pattern mutes are also a bit hidden. Thanks Surco and Bo, for the good explanations and the enthusiasm.

    Great video! Extra tip on using the FX block for transitions: Instead of changing the routing of the tracks (like you do at 2'45) it is much easier to mute / unmute the fx block to activate it. I currently use the FX block like this: All tracks except 1 and 9 (which I use for kick and snare) are routed to the FX block. During a break I mute both mute the kick & the FX block so that the side chaining disappears when the kick is not played. This of course depends on your music style, but it works like charm for my stuff.

    Very nice! Had the Syntakt for a while. I like it a lot and make track after track with it, but I find it sometimes hard to really bring all the sounds together (since the analog voices do not have a base width filter). I'll definitely use the FX Block Transition in the next track :) (Was shying away from enabling the FX while a pattern is running since I always heard audible clicks, but in your demo it sounded smooth, so it might just be the particular sounds I've used. Or maybe I have a faulty unit, that would suck. Time to find out!)

    Awesome collection of tips. Quick question, if I wanted to further distort my Syntakt and add distortion effects, I was wondering if you thought the below setup was ideal: - Audio out L into pedal, back in through the In on L, bring in the distorted audio that way

  • @BoBeats

    @BoBeats

    2 жыл бұрын

    That should work yes, so you get a distorted mono return. Then what you do if you need to control that signal: send it to the FX block and use fx block filter and drive to control it

  • @BoBeats

    Totally depends. Tr8s is way more immediate as a drum machine due to it being designed as a drum machine. Syntakt is like all elektron devices more about what you make it into.

    Question for any Syntakt owners out there! In a world where the M8 is on backorder for the foreseeable future, I'm considering buying a Syntakt and strapping a battery pack to it as something to travel with and still be able to make music. Would you consider bringing the Syntakt on a trip as a small, standalone way to make music? Is the lack of a song mode a deal breaker? Does the box get too hot to sit comfortably in your lap outdoors? Any thoughts appreciated, thanks!

    The Syntakt's power requirements are significantly higher than the other two Digis (and it runs a lot hotter), so you might find that the battery pack doesn't last a whole while. I haven't tested this, but I'd be weary about basing this plan on experiences with the Digitakt for example.

  • @BoBeats

    I also checked with MyVolts and they dont recommend using the same power-usb adapter that you can use with the Digitakt. I think it does work (i thiiiink andrew huang used one) but they told me its not recommended by them.

    Syntakt is basically ideal as a standalone way to make music. You can create full loops and tracks without samples, and fully integrate it back into a DAW easily with Overbridge. It is warm to touch, but it is in no way dangerous temperature. Anyway, I find it most comfortable to use a cushion or lapdesk to support it. I find it hurts my neck to look down directly at my legs. I'd at least use a towel or something just for comfort (metal on skin? no thanks). Or rest it on top of the case you'll buy for it. It runs fine off a power pack. I use a 20k mAh pack with USB-C Power Delivery (PD) from Amazon. It delivers 5V@3Amps, and 12V@1.5Amps. The syntakt is rated at needing 2 amps, and it is known that 1 amp is not enough. I have run it for hours at 1.5 amps just fine. I estimate this 20k pack would last 6+ hours. I use a cheap (
