Ys 8 is a top tier RPG. Some great games on this list!

I've played and beaten every mainline FF game, I consider FF13 to be in my top 3 FF games.

I Love Atlus and Tokyo Mirage Sessions is only on the Wii U and Switch Surprisingly and it’s a Underrated Gem 💎

Not really sure how these are surprising considering most of these games are remakes of very popular games or new entries in very popular series

He said these are games he went in personally with low expectations. So like ff8 to me was surprisingly good . To other people final fantasy 8 might be a know good game .

You actually do make one! 😄 Totally forgot about Freedom Wars btw. PSP and PS Vita was ahead of their time.

Currently playing FF7 Rebirth... and it's making me appreciate Ys VIII even more. I already consider Ys VIII a 10/10 experience. But Rebirth's bloat is showing me just how refined Ys VIII is. Ys VIII has side activities, yes, but none of them are plodding tasks. Everything Ys VIII asks you to do is fun and brings rewards on top of it. Rebirth, on the other hand, asks you to slowly analyze crystals... only to be rewarded with a giant text box of information. Or to ploddingly poke around an area with your Chocobo to hunt for items. Rebirth is by no means terrible... but it's reminding how much better flow Ys VIII has. Everything Ys VIII asks of you is fun to pull off, and never really slows the game down to a crawl. My continued opinion is that Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is one of the greatest video games, not just RPGs, ever made. A true masterclass.

I certainly liked and enjoyed Legend of Dragoon, though I recognize it's short-comings. There's also almost no replayability. I've finished it twice and that's more than enough.

Octopath Traveler 2! Game so good, I felt guilty that I waited to buy it on sale 😅

I was stuck on my PS3 and 3DS, I couldn't afford a new system. I finally managed to buy a Switch Oled the beginning of 2023. I wanted to play the Fire Emblem games, Hogwarts Legacy, Breath of the Wild. I have several of these games on my list to try. 😉👍

​@@shortymcdude If I'm not mistaken the only piece of evidence we have is that FFXIII is listed as one of their future projects but that has been there since 2020.. So, we really have no way of knowing. It's such a shame.

@@TheRoleplayer40k True! I get so pissed about that. It's such a good game. For being censored, they did a decent job of it. But I will never respect them for remastering it and using the censored version as the base for that game. They brought the censored western version back into the Japanese, uncensored territory. This is why people hate the westernization of Japan

Thank you for putting respect on FFXIII. I'm not entirely sure what it was but it really resonated with me. It's such a magical game.

Awesome list

I beat ff 13 for the first time back in January. Out of all the final fantasies, it's not in my top five , but it's in my top 10 for sure. The story introduces all the characters in the beginning, so no one feels underdeveloped. Cut scenes have the same epicness as ff 10 and even the chrystarium is just a vertical sphere grid. Yes, it's linear but the narrative is gripping. My only real criticism is the endgame is hella grindy. I thought I was grinding in the beginning, but it turns out I was just grinding for the actual grind, lol. I can't wait to get to YS, Gran Blue, and Star Ocean. If Atlus wants me to play Tokyo Mirage Sessions they need to stop making so many good games. With P3 Reload, SMT Vengeance, and Metaphor, the year is booked. I might add Tactica, though, because Rabbids Sparks of Hope had a lack of polish compared to the first game. Tactica might be what I was looking for.

Loved Freedom Wars, I'm mad there's not a sequel. I mean that ending....

FF13 is a weird one. The graphics are amazing. Playing it on release was insane. The story is OK, but the maps are just sooooooo linear. The battle system sounds good on paper, but it's overly easy. I beat 80% of the game by mashing X while playing around on my phone or watching a show on my other monitor.

I love FF13 and I thought it was great from start to finish. The only down point for me was when I first get to Pulse

I very much enjoyed Astria Ascending.

Good games, FF13 was kool loved how when the enemy stagger they are thrown into the air, part 2 didn't have that so I packed it lol. Ys 8 not all that for me. Star Ocean was awesome on PsP maybe I'll get the R sometime later on. Had Freedom Wars but just didn't feel it as much as I wanted too same for P5 Strikers so I'll pass on the Tatica but get Royal & Mirage session alone with Live A Live later on.

The only other game I've played that has a similar thing to dragoon transformations, it's Jeanne d'Arc on PSP. And I loved the ring system jn Lost Odyssey for the same reason as additions. Ys VIII for me was terribly paced. Though it could be because I was waiting to be able to play a certain character full time. YsIX Monstrum Nox was perfectly paced for me though. Especially since you get the cow lady early on. I couldn't play 3 Houses because the social stuff between combat took forever whenever I'd watch people play. Engage I love that it focuses more on the combat, I'm ok with it not having the best story.

I always appreciate when FF13 gets some love it was actually good in my opinion too but I get what everyone’s complaints were and unless you read the data logs it’s easy to get confused with what’s going on

I'm in the same exact boat. The game does have it's fair share of problems but for some reason I still absolutely adore it. Also, the datalogs were an uneccessary addition for sure but honestly if you familiarized yourself with the basic terms (e.g. l'Cie, Fal'Cie and Focus) then you should be good. The datalogs would then serve as more lore that you could interact with if you wanted to but isn't required.

The exploration and building up your little group of castaways was so satisfying in Ys 8. It was my first Ys game, and it just blew me away. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE was also one of my top Wii U games (I ordered the physical soundtrack from Japan after playing it 😅), and I'm really glad it got ported to Switch to give it the audience it deserves. And Persona 5 Tactica is a blast as well. I really need to check out Engage and Live a Live sometime. Great list!

Fire Emblem Engage's characters are honestly one of its best parts? Like, the support conversations are frequently too short and it's easy to miss the really fun ones, but there _is_ a lot of depth to be had from most of the cast, even if it's hidden away in supports. I actually think the story is decent too, if you know what you're getting into. It's very much a JRPG plot about trauma and abuse and not a strategy RPG plot about kingdoms doing politics, and if you know that going in imo you'll probably have a lot of fun with it.

Love to see FFXIII on the list! I really loved it, maybe in part because it was my first FF (I slept way too long on the series xD), but I only have good memories with it. Combat system was pretty fun actually, the lore pretty unique and interesting and the music man, THE MUSIC.

FF13 is still one of the best ones in my opinion. Back when games had consistent flavor.

Legend of Dragoon might be one of the only old ass JRPGs I actually still like. Even over older Final Fantasies lol...

FF13 is an amazing game. The linearity made sense given its story, so I didn't see it as a problem.The highlights for me were the music and characters, ff13 tracks are beyond amazing. My biggest issue with the game is the localization, I had to turn off the subtitles because it was unbearably bad.

I definitely enjoyed YS 8. My first entry into the series. Couldn't put it down. I also wished it had an anime. The story was well done. Star Ocean SSR was also my 1st in the series, so far im really liking it. As much as i loved Persona 5, i just dont like Tactical RPGs. Could never get into them

mine is Octopath II, which is weird to say, but I hated the first one and figured everyone was kinda... making up?... how good the second one was. well, they weren't - it's an all-timer.

Been meaning to give Toyko MS a go. How’s the story?

The story is great! I actually really liked the characters and found that the story comes off a bit bright and upbeat but has some pretty dark undertones as things progress.

Legend of Dragoon deserves a remake

it's a great list of great games! I really miss FFXIII. Really liked it on PS3 back in the day. hope there's gonna be a remastered version. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE got me interested in FE series, and FE Engage is my first in the series and I love it! thanks for the video 🤜🏼🤛🏼❤

FF XIII is awesome. People hated the game because they wanted a VII remake at that time, which had been teased multiple times by the release of XIII. Please shut up about the "linear gameplay" already. No one says that about X, and it's just as linear.

I completely agree with this statement. There are so many great linear games out there and to be honest a majority off open world games are boring empty soulless worlds with hours of travelling, linear games cut out the mindless traveling segments. I'll be honest these people who bich about linear games usually have nothing constructive to say, I don't people disliking a game but I do like to hear a good reason as to why, as saying 1 sentence answers like its shit isn't good enough.

@@riyuphoenix4533 I agree. Most open world games are actually pretty boring, and ironically have a pretty repetitive gameplay loop. Back in XIII's day open world design was seen as the new hot shit, but look where that idea took us. Few games actually did it well, and even fewer did it with a meaningful story experience.

FFXIII is just a terrible cluster fest, solid JRPG, bad Final Fantasy. FFX also came out in 2001 and literally opens up the moment you get the ship.

@@kevonseymourks2790 you don't get the ship until halfway through the game, and even then the world doesn't have much for you to do other than that extra dungeon, or Albhed markers scattered around. It's not exactly an open world teeming with things to do. Both games are great at what they do. Hating one despite loving the other is so silly.

@@middle_pickup Yet X has a much better immersion, FFXIII has these empty long corridors you walk through, FFX doesn’t have that. FFXIII world feels empty and boring compared to other titles. Why is a silly? People are literally criticizing FFXIII correctly, the game was a huge disappointment, thank goodness FFXIV save the franchise otherwise FFXV would’ve been the last installment. XIII is easily the worst game in the franchise, rightfully criticized for its poor execution similar to FFXV, XV is a different story.

I wanted to try Tokyo Mirage but it literally NEVER goes on sale! Holy moly Nintendo please!

It’s worth the price. It’s really good, and honestly such a unique game. I never could’ve imagined a game like this getting made, but glad they did.

All great games, although i didnt like P5 TACTICA, the combat felt so underwhelming.

FF13 is great!

After experiencing 3 houses I could not even get myself to finish Engage. Was the most boring FE game I've played and I'm a huge fan of the series

I love how different we all are despite having love for video games in common. I played FF13 for the same reason you played it. Unfortunately I couldn’t take more than 11 hours of it. I really tried but I thought it was god awful. Not just the worst FF but a stain in the video game industry in my opinion. My PS3 never forgave me for subjecting it to that garbage

So did I, really loved 13, couldn't put the game down, until I finished the game. Giving the game a chance is one of the best decisions I've made.​ It is one of the games, I had on my Ps3, then bought it again for PC, then again for the Xbox series. Personally I loved Xiii-2 a bit more, but that's me. @@slam-zany

Engage is still terrible, just broad appeal with terrible localization must always be said

Still can't stand FF13. I hate the story, the combat is boring, exploration is bland, world is lame, all the characters suck, maybe Snow is ok but the rest are just the worst.... I just really hate it.

Ys 8 is alright, the others are meh, mediocre at best.
