Parker York Smith here with 10 style mistakes that I made in my past. I'm sharing them with you guys today so you don't have to make them too! Understanding what to avoid is, almost, if not more valuable than understanding what to do. Take them into consideration when shopping for yourself moving forward.
In mens fashion, mistakes are inevitable. The best thing you can do is recognize them and work towards moving forward in a positive way! Never beat yourself up about something in the past, no matter how embarrassing, because you can't do anything about it except try to do better in the present and the future.

I always tried to get name brand items all the time. Waste of money. Like buying a plain white Calvin Klein shirt. Thats 50 bucks. Instead go to Walmart and spend 4.85 at Walmart for one.

Love your content. My husband is 80 and loves clothes. He watched your black shirt short and he today wore black pants a black and cream striped shirt beautiful black tie and a tan sports jacket. He looked amazing. I love that your style advice applies to both of us. Thanks

I had the opposite problem that you had... I used to wear clothes that were WAY too slim and didn’t flatter my body at all. I was super skinny back in high school so I thought tighter clothes would make me look bigger lol

Style is a journey indeed. I remember how painful it was to hear criticism from my mum (a woman who wears polo shirts and jeans all the time). Everything I was picking was too short, too long, too revealing, too conservative, too trendy, too old-fashioned.. it seems like a never was good enough, neither was my choice. It hurts even more now as I understand she never taught me clothing, makeup, hairstyling - nothing, just basic hygiene. She is just not interested in all this. KZread taught me. And ok, I get it, we are all different, she didn’t teach what she herself didn’t know or wasn’t interested in, but judging me for starting from a literal scratch trying to learn style and fashion felt very unjust 😢

#10 is my favourite. I have the awful habit of buying a piece of clothing without really thinking about how it'll fit with other outfits I have. I mean, I at least thought about my wardrobe overall when I bought blue & black denim jeans, but with tops or dresses, I tend to buy them for something specific, then the next time I look at my wardrobe, I go into the common problem of "not having anything to wear" when I have, in fact, too many clothes - most barely even worn.

I love you in glasses on your childhood birthday … and you look so happy! As a woman, I love your channel ~ most of your advice is applicable. Also, I love how you get to the point and don’t ramble! Great content! Re tailors, I fell into the opposite problem ~ purchasing too many items that needed tailoring, a tweak here and there. Now I have to really love something if it requires adjustments from the get-go. Thanks!

I think buying outfits is great as long as you keep the rest of your wardrobe in mind. I do it quite often that I go shopping, pick out clothes that I absolutely love together as one outfit, but before I actually buy them, I think about what other clothes I have at home and if each of those pieces would also work with other pieces from my wardrobe. And unless it's a completely new style that I do want to explore more and add more pieces fitting that style later on, I won't buy the outfit if it doesn't match with anything else. That way you'll end up with both: Some really well put together outfits that you can always just throw on even thinking about it and a really solid general wardrobe.

😂This just reminds me of the mistakes I did when I was younger. Wear shorts that are a little too big, look like someone that is ready to give chase, or purchasing shirts that literally doesn't match most of my pants/shorts. Well ever since then, my friends or former classmates are shock with my current style, in a good sense of course😄 Man.. Those were the days. Good to look back and have a laugh about it.

wow this video is 3 years old and I'm just now watching it. I think I made a ton of these mistakes in my childhood. Like ALL of them. I really love colors. I love pastel colors or neon orange/green. Those colors make me happy. But I've come to realize that you cant wear those colors :( Or, don't buy a shirt in that color, because you wont be able to wear it often. It's much easier to buy those neutral colors or earth tones. They go with everything. They are calming colors and wont make you stand out, but they will make you look good.

Starting a wardrobe when you have almost nothing feels defeating. Clothes are so expensive these days i feel like. And if i see a good looking hoody and or pants, that is the only clothes i can afford for that month. It feels so slow and i don't want to wear the same thing thrice in 1 week.

Dear god i shop for clothes maybe once or twice a year and buy maybe 3 or 4 pieces of clothing during entire year. And it isn't unusual, many people in europe don't buy clothes very often. The idea of going to a mall and buying a whole outfit once or twice a month sounds horrifying. Why would you ever need that much clothes. Why spend as much money so incredibly unintentionally?
