One of the best ways I've ever found to engage students, colleagues at work, even family members, is to simply ask for their opinion or persepective. There is no "right" or "wrong" answer and it really opens the opportunity for discussion and connection. It can also dramatically improve learning... just like Socrates did! The Uchi app is a great tool for this.
