10 Springtime Wild Edible Plants you can Forage NOW
In this episode, we'll do a short foraging walk down by the creek just to see how much variety is growing here in mid-Spring. I apologize in advance for the sound quality due to the noise canceling of the loud creek.
Thank you for watching, and Happy Foraging!

Hello I have been foraging for 11 years and this year in Spain we have been hit by drought and there's nothing to forage. I went to fields and I was devastated by what I saw. It has never been this bad for as long as I can remember. We hope it rains soon.

@@anndriggers6660 thanks. We need it. There's restrictions of irrigation of plants all over Spain. I have to listen to the rain in KZread to comfort myself 😁

@@cel4lyf yeah, chemtrails do that.
I infuse vinegars with the flowers I forage (that are edible) and use the infused vinegar for salad dressing (with oil and other add-ins).

Sounds amazing 😋
I like steeping purple dead nettle in cold water and leaving it in the fridge, also great mixed with lemon balm for a refreshing drink :)
Amen to foraging in the Southeast, zone 7.
There's a lot of good eating out there now! I've gotten a much better appreciation of flowerstalks from your videos, for a variety of plants. They can be so fast to harvest, and so easy to clean, and then really delicious! To me, when plants have "issues" (like the cleavers, or deadnettle, or the little daisies), those plants contribute depth of flavors when they are mixed with other greens. Have a great spring foraging season!

Thank you Holly! This time of the year is just overwhelming because there's so much variety. I do need to do better letting the less desirable plants contribute to the flavor complexities. I've always been a simple cook, using "veggies" as a course rather as an ingredient 😏 Thanks for stopping by, happy spring foraging to ya too!
Interesting. I've been foraging foreever. I live in a small town in Italy and the local women all forage! One possible addition which allows me to not make mistakes is add FLOWERS so you're sure. Green leaves can look alike!

I hope it is not from the Ariel injection spraying. I'm in South Carolina and they are constantly spraying the skies. Give it time to fall to the ground and with a flashlight you can see it in the air at night like snow.

@@chickatron3238 😢 wish we could stop the big corporations and governments stop experimenting on us like that.
Great vid
Now I need a list of plants, on the east coast, specifically zone 7

@dixieeden9770 Dandelion, chickweed, bittercress, pennycress, wintercress (bitter once it buds out!), mustard greens (ok while blooming), henbit and purple dead nettle, stinging nettle (use gloves, stops stinging once cooked or dried), garlic mustard aka alliaria (try pesto), plantain, wood sorrel, creeping charlie aka glechoma, prickly lettuce tips, lambsquarter, pigweed, dock.
Excellent video. I was fascinated the whole time!
Lovely vid so informative thanks from UK
Have a few dead nettle in the garden. A few are cute in a salad. Nice to know about the cleaves. They arrived two years ago and have spread. Easy enough to pull up though. Now I know to make stock.
Hello Caroline! I've just stumbled upon your channel. Thank you, I love it!❤ could I ask if you would make a salve from celandine please, thank you 🙏😊
I don;t like the dandelion greens but I love the flowers as a salad.
Lovely filming and informative narration. Thanks. I will keep me eyes open for these little beauties.

Henbit grows anywhere purple deadnettle grows and is tastier than deadnettles
When does CHICKWEED SHOW UP??? CAN U SHOW everyone what Chickweed looks like & where CHICKWEED Grows?? Chickweed is high in VITAMIN C! TASTES GOOD!!! GREAT FOR TICKLE COUGHS IN SPRING SEASON & SUMMER SEASON & EARLY AUTUMN SEASON!!!!! PLEASE?
May I ask what USDA zone you are in? I'm in zone 4/3 (right on a border there) and your plant life seems to be quite a bit beyond ours. Also, I've never thought of pickling dandelion! What a wonderful idea! Thank you for this video. 🤗

We're in zone 8, Willamette valley. Thank you for watching!
Does anyone know why this video and others keeps coming up on my feed even after I e watched it and gave it a thumbs up?
@alsinakiria
Ай бұрын
Because you watched it and gave it a thumbs up. The algorithm has decided you want more of this content now.
Rabbit hole: ALL the stuff at the produce grocery store isn't what we should be eating. Instead it's already growing outside. *why is dandelion made to be so bad?!
Why don't we forage for seeds or cutting to propogate & be more accessible even indoor & in winter (sprouts, microgreens hydroponics etc), especially highly nutritious super foods. That is how we progressed from a foraging society!
@TheNorthwestForager
Жыл бұрын
I did a video on them as microgreens, it's absolutely worth the effort. kzread.info/dash/bejne/l42BytuAqaq-l84.html
So because it comes up on my feed a second time the next day, it forces me to click "not interested" so that it will erase it from my feed. But I don't want the algorithm to think I'm not interested in this video!?
