Cats and humans can be very much alike, but perhaps we haven't dedicated enough time on getting to know them better and become aware of this.
Already in ancient Egypt the quintessential sound of a cat was “meow”, which meant “cat”. This sound can last between a fraction of a second and various seconds and cats produce it by opening their mouth and then gradually closing it again. In some cases the meowing can begin or end with another sound, such as a trill or a grunt.
There is no specific meaning. It can serve to call attention to something in its surroundings, making it possible for us to understand the cat's message. A meow near a closed door may indicate the cat wants to go out and one near an empty feeder that the cat is hungry. It is believed that most meows are random sounds which the cat learns to use to communicate with the people around, so that each household with a cat has its own glossary of meows for food, caressing, playing, attention, etcetera.
Tips #1. Did you know that adult cats use meows mainly to communicate with people and almost never with other cats?
Although they do not have a specific meaning, meows can transmit information about the emotional state of the cat and the urgency of its “message”. Generally speaking, the more intense the emotion, the stronger the meow. In situations which are unpleasant for cats, such as suddenly being combed or being in an unknown place or in the veterinarian's waiting room, cats emit long, guttural meows which are very intense and in a low pitch.
On the other hand, when cats feel comfortable, such as when they are being fed or are looking for physical contact with their owner, the meows are shorter and more high-pitched and with a rising intonation.

I want to thank you so much for sharing. My sparkles reacted right away like aligning herself who she was not just indoors kitty.
This is a life saver. I am trying to gain the trust of 2 feral kittens that I now managed to move to a room in the house. No luck. Sitting there for hours and the still hide away under everything. I am now lying on my back and putting these sounds on. The moment I get to the purr and trill they came out purring like mad. The one even played a bit. I can't believe it. So happy.

Right there with you- moved the neighborhood ferals (4) into the basement (🥶artic vortex). I try to keep their room ambience soothing- low light & 🌙/ crickets asmr as background noise. Also, leave a sweatshirt (you've worn) in the room, so they can get used to your scent. Catnip & laser pointer, anyone?

The distress call 🥺. That sound is burned into my memory. My boogums had separation anxiety as a kitten so when I'd put him to sleep in his bed next mine, he scream just like that until I gave in. Unfortunately I move a lot in my sleep, so I had a lot of sleepless nights, holding him until he fell asleep and I can catch a few hours. 🤣He knows I'm typing about him, headbutting my phone.

I thought mine was going to, but instead, he came over to the phone (only on playing the “trill” sound, flipped it over then bit it. I didn’t play the other (aggressive or distressed) sounds for him (turned the volume right down) because I didn’t want to stress him.
My kitty really responds to #2, #5 & #6.
My cats loved it❤

The hissing and distress was unnecessary and it didn't help, the video just confused her lol
My cat seemed to think i was making the noises and decided to knock my glasses off my face with his paw.
The female one woke up cat up real quick, he do be like his owner….

The kitten noises gave my can an unusual amount of stress. He has ptsd so it wasnt great for his stress.
