    Its a shame that new 52 got rid of this version of Red Robin, and that modern DC refuses to let Tim be his hero instead of being Robin again. His old costume was awesome too, I hated his new 52 redesign.

    Tim Drake is my all time favorite comic book character and the Red Robin series was outstanding. One of the reason I really hated the New 52 was it came along just as his book was really powering up and then it got snapped out of existence. Good job bringing it to people's attention.

    Fairly certain The Killing Joke is purposely misogynistic and edgy. I recall an interview with Moore where he claimed it was supposed to be a critique of how ridiculous it was for super heroes to be portrayed as dark and mature. Then again I could be recalling incorrectly. My memory is multiple choice 😂

    I consider John Byrne's defining of Superman, to have started with The Gladiator in Marvel's Fantastic Four. Not only did he draw Gladiator like Superman with a Mohawk, but he used an explanation of Gladiators strength, when he lifts the Baxter Building, which he would repeat when he did the re-boot series of Superman. (In which he made Luthor more of a business tychoon, than brilliant scientist.) As always thank you so very much for the video.

  • @alastorcorvus

    @alastorcorvus

    Not really, it's a well-known fact in the comic community. Alan Moore was pissed at DC but still owed them one book, that book eventually became TKJ as a personal favor to Bolland. Neither of them are misogynistic IMO. But the book itself and it's production has a lot of misogyny involved, Moore was pushing DC editors in order to see how much they were willing to let him alter the characters... asked Lein if DC had any trouble with having Barbara crippled, and Lein answered "Yeah, cripple the bitch". Moore has expressed regret in this regard, stating that "was one of the areas they should've reined me in, but they didn't" and the Killing Joke became a misogynistic book only in the way they used Barbara as merely a plot device to rise the stakes for both Jim Gordon and Batman. Moore just wanted to write a self-contained story to show that Batman was just as crazy as the Joker, but it ended up being a huge deal and changing a lot of stuff in the DC universe

  • @ronocko

    @@alastorcorvus So was it misandrist when Jason Todd was used as a plot device and killed by the joker "to rise the stakes for Batman"? Its comics, theres all sorts of tropes and lazily written plot devices to get from A to B, grow up.

  • @alastorcorvus

    @alastorcorvus

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@ronocko no, that's a false equivalence. Thought you were better than that :/ Lemme explain, Jason Todd's fate was decided by fans (DC was actually kinda hoping that Jason survived), not by a misogynistic editor that said something like "Yeah, slaughter that ginger dickhead". Also, while both stories eventually developed the characters in what are arguably their best iterations (RH and Oracle), the death of a sidekick or a family member at the hands of your archnemesis is no misandry because is something that happens all the time in comics. Most importantly, Jason died as ROBIN and by disobeying Batman's orders. Whereas Barbara was paralyzed, strip naked and possibly even raped not because she was Batgirl, but because she was the commissioner's daughter and Joker wanted to traumatize her dad, Batman is only tangentially drawn into the story. You see the difference now? Or do I have to water it down a bit more for you?

  • @ronocko

    @ronocko

    @@alastorcorvus Jason Todd's fate was decided by DC they gave two options they cared so little they left it upto a fan vote which sounds much worse than a writer seeing how far he could push the envelope and supposedly called batgirl a bitch. Bad things happening to women in a story isn't misogyny, characters in stories acting misogynist isn't misogyny. Again grow up
