@@JessicaLikeEveryone Mr. Wise, the owner of this channel, likes to explore off-the-beaten-path locations and small towns that have been forgotten, or almost forgotten, over time. He tries to give interesting history about those areas. He is always kind and positive in his remarks. I have watched other travel channels and have heard those channel owners make derogatory and malicious remarks about poor communities. I don't watch those channels anymore. If you want commentary about property values, I respectfully suggest you watch real estate channels.

I go weak in the knees for old stone or brick buildings. If I had to pick a favorite city, Corinth would be it due to the old stone church. Looks like it's in pretty good shape.....? But, love the name Birdsong, and would certainly be fun to say that's where I live! Aerial footage shows so many treeeeees!!! Arkansas is a beautiful state indeed! Very enjoyable video! Thank you!

I was born and raised in Arkansas and lived in Trumann in Northeast Arkansas. However, when I was 16 (1967), I use to go to Birdsong with my friends. There was a little "juke joint" that was always packed. Of course, my parents didn't know we went there; I remember having my first alcoholic beverage, which I purchased myself! Thanks for bringing back pleasant memories.

I have lived in central Arkansas for 75 years, and I haven’t been to any of these towns. Thank you for enlightening me on my own state. I liked the way you put this presentation together for these reasons: 1. I liked your demeanor. You were educating your audience regarding these very small towns, yet you did so in a very positive manner, without putting down the places or people. You showed considerable restraint in depicting Victoria after being told to leave. That unfriendliness was an embarrassment to me and my fellow Arkansans. 2. I liked the music, which seemed to fit the small town mode. 3. I liked the camera work, and the drone aerials really gave us a wonderful aerial view of the towns. Thank you for this inspiring video of what Arkansas’ smallest towns now look like, and the history from which they sprung.

I had a laugh when you were swatting at that ..whatever it was...at Victoria. It might have been one of those Arkansas flatland mosquitoes. Those buggers are huge and man, can they bite..!! I was born in Memphis and spent my entire Elementary years in a small farm town not far from Victoria, and right next to the Mississippi River, in Osceola. Yes, the flat lands have their own beauty: farm land that stretches forever to the far distant horizon, the beautiful, straight row crops, the winding water filled rice fields, the hundreds of golden round bales of hay that look like scattered checkers across the fields, and other features of the endless flat lands. But my heart is in the hills and mountains. The first time I saw the foothills of the Ozarks and the crystal clear Ozark Mountains lakes, I was hooked. My life sent me to other places from one coast to the other and I got to see and love all of the different kinds of geography of these United States, but I guess because of my childhood memories, I was always drawn back to the Ozarks and it's foothills. I am now 71 and I have been back here in north central Arkansas for 23 years. Yes, Arkansas, and every other State, has it's own beauty and history. I am thankful that I live in America.

Thanks for creating this video. Enjoyed it very much. Live about 10 miles from Victoria. Johnny Cash homeplace is at Dyess, about 15 from Victoria, back southwest. All in same County of MissCo (Mississippi County), 100 percent agricultural area. We grow lots of crops: cotton, corn, milo, peanuts, soybeans and some rice. Again, thanks, and come back sometime.

Those buildings with the patchwork stone veneer siding are called "giraffe houses" because of the reticulated patterns. It's a regional style, not found in areas without limestone outcroppings to provide the sheets of stone.

Heck in the late 80's to get from Paragould to Leachville you had to go up into the boothill and back down into Arkansas. What you saw a few miles past the Welcome to Arkansas sign was the This highway is adopted by the KKK sign almost immediately followed by the Welcome to Leachville sign. I was born in Paragould and spent two years in Leachville. I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Great video. Arkansas is a beauty with it's tree covered landscape. These areas are way above average in history & churches. Another great video. Thanks John for another great adventure . Nice you were only told to hit the road . Ha!

Grew up around Birdsong, and farm worked all around it as a teen. That longer shaped white cinderblock building was the old store. The metal frame in front enclosed the old gas pump, if you wanted gas the sweet old lady that ran the store would come out and remove the padlock, it was super expensive but the next closest gas was in Tyronza. The store had great made to order sandwiches everyday and bbq on Fridays. Really was a time capsule when I was there in the late 90s. If you are standing in front of the store, the house up on the hill behind you was an old bootlegger that would sell you beer for a $1 a can on sundays, since you cant buy alcohol in Arkansas on Sunday.

Arkansas had another Internment Camp in Rohwer, AR. Both George Takei and Ruth Asawa were both relocated there as children.

I had to laugh, the town of Victoria though only having a population of 20 includes a town Karen. Hopefully you encounter more friendly people than not. I grew up in Clover Bend in northeast Arkansas. We had the school, 2 little stores and 4 church’s. There was maybe 100 people living there. Now it is on the historical registry. It has the church’s still and a duck hunting lodge and rice fields.

I liked the looks of Blue Eye, both states! Good video!

Silex, Missouri where I grew up has maybe 10 people in the actual town. The government moved the whole town because of flooding.

My brother grew up in that area. I didn’t realize they moved the town.

We are in Fairfield Bay one of the most beautiful places in Ar not the smallest Fairfield Bay has a pop 2000 and is around 15 miles, Greers Ferry beside us is pop 826, and 7,228 miles compared to other places we consider them fairly small. (Van Buren County) we welcome you to come and visit!

My great uncle was one of the senior farm employees at Wesson Farms in Victoria for many years. He and my grandfather got special permission for us to fish on the pond at the Wesson house, which was notable because outside of the train and the land around it, visitors were generally not welcome. Nearly all of the town is a working farm and private property. People don’t just go there to hang around.

Good morning Brother, enjoyed this video. Not all Small Towns are Small town Friendly, as seems to be the case with #1 on the list, Victoria. That's one place, the only place on the list that we likely WILL NOT visit in the near future. My wife had mentioned a couple of small, likely now non existent towns in Arkansas in which her family had a connection. Those 2 were Dod(?) City & Yelville/Yellville. They may be a couple to research, who knows, it may be friendlier locals....

As a local resident to the area you're talking about, I can tell you that Dodd City doesn't really exist anymore. You can still search it on a map but it is no longer a town. Yellville absolutely is still around though, it's the county seat actually with a population of over 1,000. It has a cute historic downtown square, restaurants, K-12 school, several churches, businesses, and a nice park.

I grew up visiting my cousins at Barton Ar. I lived at Lambrook Ar,about 8 miles from Elaine,where our schools were. I hear that there is nothing there anymore in Elaine. It was a great place to grow up. Hardware store and Diner is still there .

So interesting! I’m from a small town in Arkansas myself- New Edinburg, Arkansas in Cleveland County (south of Pine Bluff between Fordyce and Warren). The “official” population as of 2020 is 134, but I wonder if there’s that many people left there. We lived there until I was 6 years old. Love the history in these small towns.

I grew up in McNabb late 1960’s early 1970’s..I lived across Hwy 355 from the whit brick store building.. my grandparents owned the store in mid 1970’s…

I live in Arkansa and for most of my life raised in Augusta. It has in a decline since I left in 1971. Down town was thriving at that time….so much fun as a kid going to the drug store for sodas after school! Now it’s gone as well as most businesses. Going back to class reunions and seeing this is really saddening. 😢. I am sure those watching this that have lived in the towns you are referencing feel the same way. Thank you!

Ozan is prounced O-zan, not O-zahn. I was born and raised in Hope just south of Ozan and one of my best friends is from McNab. Been to half of these. I'm from Blevins, AR, also a small town, but McCaskill ,the town West of us, only has a population of 96! I enjoyed watching this.

I'm a native of Holly Grove located in Monroe County,25 miles south of interstate 40 an Brinkley.Theres nothing there anymore,no stores,gas stations,doctors. I was reared in the Deep Elm area.my mom was Bones Father was Brown and Mayo.

Right down the road from Jerome is Rohwer Relocation Center Memorial Cemetery for that internment camp.

Great video. I think Victoria needs a 10 foot fence with locked gates if they don't want people to walk around. The cemetery at Birdsong, I think, is the smallest I've ever seen. TFS

lived in Witts Springs 11th 12th grades left 1972 still a small town but seems rich people have moved in and cut down almost all trees, we had 40 acres almost totally full of trees they are all gone

You should explore the communities of Appleton in pope county and Jerusalem in Conway county I believe Arkansas rt 9 out of Morrilton north will get you where you want to go the counties to concentrate on are Pope Conway & VanBuren I have not been down there in 20 years but that’s where all my Dads people are from I live in a suburb of Chicago

There used to be 2 towns in Arkansas. One was destroyed in 1927 by a tornado. After the tornado, the town was rebuilt and is now called Strong. It is in Union County.

The town, now called Strong, Arkansas was a busy train stop. It was called Victoria then in 1927 a huge tornado wiped the town off the map killing many townspeople. When they rebuilt the town they renamed it Strong. Has less then 1000 people left in the city. The used to have 1 red light but that was taken down years ago.

Beautiful farmland, check out N. E Ar., towns such as Cash, Bono and Egypt

My dad and i had a hunting lease in McNab. There were some strange things that went on there in the 80s. We found a pile of deaad dogs that had been butchered. One of them had their rear end chopped off and were turned inside out and stuck on a stick that was in the ground.

Haha yes it was the first time!

you were 10 miles from banks it also was a railroad town census puts us at 120 but its probably closer to 70 now

Thank you, this is very interesting! My people are the Lamberts and there’s a town named Lambert if you could call it a town. It’s near Bismarck, my great uncle William Lambert served in the Senate and was an attorney. My grandmother’s sister Rosa was the first postmaster, she had polio when young and left her paralyzed waist down but she had a beautiful attitude a real Arkansas gem. They’ve all passed away but I’ll never forget them! My dad graduated from Bismarck school then served in the Navy. I’ve been trying to get a school annual 41 to 43, he’s in it several times, as the most likely to succeed, things like that, I can’t find one so if anyone reads this and could tell me how to proceed to find it please reply.

Well if you are getting kicked out, you must be in the right place! It's funny how silly people are. Maybe someone had come through and done damage to their property. But thank you for risking everything to bring us these amazing places to see!

Yeah it’s hard to know why, but I didn’t really question it. No big deal - still had fun exploring!

I liked Gilbert, even though there were only 20 residents it would seem the river sports would bring some life into the town. I liked the old general store, too. (Have you thought about getting a mic? Sometimes it's hard to hear what you're saying).

Thanks! I had a wind muffle on the mic so that’s why it may have sounded low. And I was talking low sometimes because it was so quiet in places!

There was a town not far from where I grew up that had a population sign of 2 at one time. There were more people that lived there but according to the town's property lines the other people actually lived outside city limits. I for the life of me cannot remember what the towns name was but it was one of those towns on a backroad. Looking back since I grew up around Sharp County it was probably an unincorporated town. They very well could have finally moved the city limits out and that could be why I can't even find it anymore. There are unfortunately a LOT of unincorporated towns throughout Sharp County and the surrounding areas.

Been through Blue Eye many times on my way to Branson. It's a nice drive through town. There is one thing about all these places that you will not find in any other Arkansas town..... a Dollar General.

I had a deer camp about 1 mile from Tinsman. Still looks the same after 40 years. What about New Edinburg, Ar. It used to be a thriving township. You should go see it!

I just looked it up and it’s unincorporated so not eligible for this video. But sounds like an interesting community!

I thought Mcneil,Arkansas in Columbia county might have made the list but it comes in at a bustling 710 souls last time i checked.

I shot this previous video a couple weeks ago so I don’t plan to be back in Arkansas for a while. Maybe next time!

My mamaw was the mayor of tinsman ar in the 80s. I own a couple of acres right in the middle. One of my favorite places to be when I was a kid

The red barn was my papaw's. It was built out of the wood of a really old house that was torn down there.

A NICE TRIP TODAY! MUCH OF THE AREA NEAR THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER WOULD BE SWAMPLAND , IF NOT FOR MODERN DIRT MOVING MACHINERY AND ELECTRICAL PUMPS! THERE ARE MANY DISTRICTS THAT ARE CENTERED AROUND LOCAL ASSOCIATIONS THAT RECEIVE TAXES TO CONTROL AND MAINTAIN INFRASTRUCTURE RELATED TO THE SWAMP LANDS! WITH THE RICHNESS OF FORMER SWAMP SOIL, AGRICULTURE BENEFITS GREATLY! BEMIS IS A NAME I HAVE NOT SEEN OR THOUGHT OF FOR MANY YEARS! AS PART OF OUR FORMER FARM OPERATION WE HAD A SEED CLEANING MILL AND USED MANY BAGS TO CONTAIN THE CLEANED SEEDS, WITH MOST BEING THE JUTE “ GUNNY” BAGS. HOWEVER THEY WERE NOT CLOSELY WOVEN, AND VERY SMALL SEEDS WOULD LEAK THROUGH THEM. BEMIS BAGS WERE A WOVEN HEAVY COTTON CANVAS BAG THAT WOULD CONTAIN EVERYTHING! PROPERLY USED AND CARED FOR WOULD LAST NEARLY FOREVER! I WONDER IF THE BEMIS LUMBER CO WAS RELATED TO BEMIS BAG? WITH COTTON BEING ALSO GROWN THERE,IT IS POSSIBLE!

That’s definitely an area I had never been to so it’s interesting to learn about. What a project to make that land suitable for farming! We had some smart pioneers back in the day!

@@TravelwithaWiseguy IT IS ALSO QUITE INTERESTING TO VIEW THE RICE FARMING OF EASTERN ARKANSAS AND SOUTH EAST MISSOURI,AND COMPARE IT TO KANSAS WHEAT PRODUCTION. TWO SIMILAR GRAINS, TOTALLY DIFFERENT GROWTH TECHNIQUES.

The town I live in is very small Etawoh Ark in the north east

The water tower in tin looked very tall! You spoke of 2 churches about a mile apart. Are history tells us one of the reasons people come to this country was the freedom to practice their religion. Have you seen are Victoria here in Kansas? I was told the reason for the tall steeples was so the bells could be at a longer distance.

Never been to pass Texas before. Hoping you would adventure to Rison Arkansas because my bff son lives there and she want me to drive her there soon. I don’t know what I’m for 😊

Most of the time if there is an attraction in these small towns you show it. I didn't see much of that here. I was wondering if any of these towns are worth visiting and if so, which ones do you recommend visiting for whatever reason?

You are correct, most of the towns did not have a lot to offer for a tourist. Wiederkehr Village and Gilbert were the exceptions and well worth visiting.

I live in Kansas so I go where I can because of it being close to where I live. I have a lot of Oklahoma videos too. Every once in a while I’ll do a road trip like the one I’m doing later this month to California.

Tinsman a burg after my own heart then of course on to Ozan get McNab by Victoria whose Blue Eyes were seeing red apparently. Maybe she needed some Bird Songs and some vino from Wiederkhr and an afternoon Whelen Springs with Jerome or Gilbert to get in a better mood. I had no idea John that Arkansas had a winery. Nor what to do with Corinth.

Hahaha! Tinsman would definitely be a town for a Tinman! That’s as close as I could get to your name for you 😂😂 She was definitely seeing red - and not red wine. Which is plentiful actually in that part Arkansas believe it or not!
