As a tattoo artist I'm personally glad Randy's artist got laughed at straight to her face, if you're upset that your work is being seen by literally millions of people then you're doing it for the wrong reasons.

Considering that it was already ruled that Lebron James's tattoos were part of his likeness and that his tattoo artist wasn't owed compensation for James's appearances in the 2K NBA games, I expect the same result for the Randy Orton lawsuit.

It's ridiculous. If you put your art on somebody's body, you can't keep intellectual property of it by the most simple of logic. If I get a tattoo and somebody takes a picture of me, do they have to pay the artist? No. You were compensated once. That's all you get. You can certainly display the art, but you're not entitled to further compensation.

@@jsmith3946 The difference there (I think) is that it wasn't Mike Tyson appearing in the film (that was the first one), but they had one of the characters get what was, in essence, a copy of Mike Tyson's face tattoo which was (presumably) designed by that guy. I can't think of another good analogous example because tattoos and movies intersect in kind of a unique way when it comes to IP and the like, but a parallel would be like if a film happened to do some shots in an art gallery or museum and some painting that some living artist did happened to be in the background, versus recreating that painting and having it be the target of a heist in your movie. But even that's not necessarily an IP violation because it isn't the piece itself that is making the plot work (ex: you could swap in just about any painting that we're informed will sell for a high value and it will still work), the case of Tyson's face tattoo was specifically used in that movie *because* of the recognizability of that facial tattoo and Tyson's role in the first film; if they'd just tattooed something else on his face it wouldn't have been the same kind of joke (there are different tattoos you could use for the sake of a joke of course). Note that this might not be correct; I'm not an IP lawyer, I just used to work for a few IP lawyers who talked about IP law a lot. The particulars might not be right, but based on what I have picked up, that seems to be the most likely key difference.

She tattooed Randy knowing full well he was famous and appearing on tv and in games. She's done been paid for her work, and has no right to any compensation for something she silently assented to allow.

I disagree with the whole tattoo lawsuit. A tattoo artist is compensated for their work when they tattoo someone but once it's on the body, the person should own the rights to that tattoo as it's now apart of their body.

That's how most tattoo artists operate if it's a commission b/c you're the only one in the world with that tattoo. My artists always leave me the originals so they have no copies, just a picture of the finished ink.

I enjoyed Lick Me 3. Admittedly there wasn't much of a plot. While watching it, I did find myself saying 'I didn't see that coming' and 'WOW, that twist' but neither statements were about the storyline.

As I remember, Jerry Lawler sued because the WWF was calling Race "The King of Wrestling" and he'd long before trademarked that moniker. So because of the suit, WWF changed Race's moniker to "The King of the World Wrestling Federation."

Surely the tattooist would have been compensated when he paid for them? God only knows what goes through American courts, but this has actually been approved.. they're Randy's tattoos, not hers..

They settle out of court because all they wanted was a quick payday and companies tend to not want people digging around in their business so it's better to avoid court.

Randy's tattoo a artist was compensated the minute before Randy left the parlor. She didn't make up generic tribal or skulls.

I remember I clicked a video titled 'Sean Michaels' and went "HBK?" I found out very soon they were 2 different men. I also learned how to spell Shawn Michaels name.

I’ll try my best to explain. Bash at the Beach 2000 has a match where Jeff Jarrett lies down for Hulk Hogan. Hogan wins the WCW title and starts saying phrases like “this is why the company is in the shape it’s in.” That part was the worked shoot; Hogan leaves the building and Russo would cut a promo where he (kayfabe) fired Hogan for walking out, and claimed that Hogan’s creative control clause was the reason Jarrett had to lie down in the ring. Hogan would leave but eventually be set to return for a title vs. title unification match. Hogan sued because (allegedly) there were aspects of Russo’s promo which were not agreed upon when the worked shoot was being planned, hence the defamation of character claim. Supposedly Russo went “off script” with some of the insults he levied against Hulk, but no one knows for sure.
