    I have a concert Uke and also a baritone uke. I like both of them for different reasons. I played guitar for years and for the last year I can’t play some of the chords due to severe arthritis in my hands and fingers. I learned the concert because it was easier to play four strings instead of six strings. I loved it but After a year or so I missed the warmer, richer sound of the guitar on certain songs. I bought a baritone and it’s like playing a guitar again! I call it my baby guitar. Now I play both ukes depending on what song I am playing. At 77 years of age I am so glad I can still play music in spite of my arthritis! I love both of my ukes!

    I have a concert and am considering buying a baritone, do you think the frets’ size is much bigger? There are some notes i cant play on an electric guitar because I can’t reach some places so I’m afraid I won’t be able to play them on the baritone ukulele!

    @@catarinarondao9822 yes, the frets are a little bigger than the concert but not as big as on a guitar. I love mine. I think The best way to see if you would like one is to go to a music store and try one out. The chords are mthe same as on the guitar minus the two top strings.

From fiddling around a bit though, I can tell it can do things my other ukefriends cannot. I am so very excited to get started. I can say that if you're playing with regular Ikea and you wanna give your bari a similar sound for playing along, capo the 5th fret. I learned that today. 🥳

    If you know the standard ukulele chords, playing a baritone ukulele and using a capo is like having a transpose knob. If you have a lower voice some songs (at least in the easiest chord shapes) are a bit too high to sing along with comfortably. Play that song on a baritone, without even thinking of what the chords really are and you’ve simply transposed the song down a fourth. Add a capo and you can transpose to anything in between. After all playing a baritone with the capo on the fifth fret is like playing a low G tenor.

I degrade it. And if I will change bari to tenor (with strings), and memorize cords, I will not go back to baritone tuning.. so I am perplexed.. :-( can you help me somebody? many thanks.

  • @robertfluegel6048

    @robertfluegel6048

    2 жыл бұрын

    I'm a long-time bass player; I picked up a tenor 2 years ago and immediately put a low G on it, primarily for doing short riffs and run ups. I'm having a blast with it. Never played chords in my life; my wife loves hearing me practice now because she can recognize the songs that I'm playing. My neighbor just loaned me her baritone for the Summer and I'm enjoying playing in the lower register, plus I have a goal this year to do more riffs and solo's so reason #5 is resonating (pun intended) with me. There is a learning curve going from tenor to bari and I'm just getting started, BUT, to answer your question, I'd start with a Tenor and a high G string since you're a newbie. Either way you should have a blast with it! Most songs can be done with 5 or 6 chords; if you sing, then learn the chords within your vocal range first. If you don't sing, but want to, then learn BOTH at the same time. I didn't and its a b*tch re-learning to play and sing at the same time. Hope this helps. Buona Fortuna!

    I really dont understand the size reasons. Kids play basses and big men play mandolins. takes some getting used to but its learnable. So 10 reasons why one would need a bariton is not size because if you already have a tenor than just practice! Dont buy a bariton just because your fingers a a bit bigger, that is not a valid reason...If you want to play uke and already play guitar starting off with baritone to get into ukes now see that is a valid reason (your nr.7)
