Imagine the E.T.s of all these cars with modern rubber. I lived through this era and the biggest problem was keeping the tires engaged to the road, particularly with the short rear ends of the day.

Had a blast with my 1972 Buick skylark. Had a 350. Was not enough for me so I put in a 455 from a 1971 Buick Rivera. Surprised a lot of other cars.

I guess you meant "MACH" 1. I have to agree with you. Especially the Pontiacs, Pontiac was on another level in styling and performance.

@@user-rv3cm7hv3lI agree with you about Pontiac! The GTO is my all time favorite car but the other muscle era Pontiacs are also beautifully stylish and sporty cars. (and even pre-muscle era - my dad restored a 1959 Bonneville convertible to all original and it's a beautiful car!)

Great list of Cars! I had a 72 Buick Skylark after we finished up in the 80s that monster was 462 Stage 1 pushing 550H and a even 565 torque. The pull was incredible with 4:10:1 ⚙️ the combination with about 90%was Kenne Bell equip. Cam was specifically made in Detroit from General Kenattiacs at about 525 lift. Sealed power pistons flat top Pistons for perfect clearance with 11:0:1. TRW had the nice dome for 12:50:1. At that time Kenne Bell you could get anything you wanted from 10:0:1- 15:0:1. So many tricks to the big block BUICKS. Buick advantage was because of their light Engine Blocks, but must griddle bottom end anything above 500 HP so the main bearing don't start walking. To much to list but thanks for listening. Boy I wish I new were that car is today. Last I knew was in Heartland Michigan. WOW! Good times in that car.

fastest car i owned was a '72 charger with a 440 - net hp was something like 280, but it still felt plenty fast, probably turning quarters in the low 15's. I miss those days badly........

I had a 1973 Formula 455 with the functional RA setup and even with 250 rear wheel brake HP and low 8 compression ratio the 455 was still a beast when racing light to light on Friday and Saturday nights back in the early 1990s. Back then I could have also bought a 1972 Cuda with a 383 for the same money but the Formula 455 had way more HP..... Cars were much easier to work on back then as cars had no computer and every car had a simple foolproof carburettors.

A 71 Hemi Cuda Hardtop goes for around $450K as stated in the video. That same car with a HEMI but convertible goes for 3-5 million and probably even a bit more with 4 speed because they're much more rare.

I had a 71 GS Stage 1, I loved that car, it was bad to the bone and I raced it at the 1/4 mile a lot. I kept busting motor mounts because of the torque so I added a chain to limit the engine travel. That's when the transmissions started coming apart. I dolled her up with headers and side pipes with the cutouts and torque thrust D's with Micky Thompson tires.

They did that because of the onsursnce companies killing the kids with high rates, adding surcharges too. Many models wete available with similar equipment but are tuned down like the Olds Cutlass SX instead of the 442. Chevy had the low-cost Heavy Chevy.

All the time I was in Vietnam in 1970 I had a picture of a Plymouth Hemi under glass on my locker. But when I got back they were way to expensive and didn't come with a warrantee, so I settled for a Plymouth Duster. I think it was a good choice at the time, except it was the color of baby poop.

The Buicks were quickest on street tires then due to the flat easily controlled torque curve of the nail head. And with enough traction nothing could touch a hemi.
