Such a good director. It really comes out in this interview how smart this man is. He has only made classics all around
He has the Terminator's arm as a trophy on his desk. Badassery Incarnate.

@@MrBibi86 The next delay might be with part 4. He's already suggested it will take at least 3 years to do it after part 3, which is a year later than the date Disney announced. He said in another interview he just laughed whenever Fox or Disney announced dates for the Avatar sequels.
James Cameron is THE MAN! He looks so cool here. I don't see how you can call him an "asshole" when you watch JC do interviews like this. He's confident. Not arrogant. Those are two very different things. Given the enormous success of Titanic and Avatar, Cameron has every reason to be confident.

No shit he s on of the best
I can't help but notice the Terminator arm in the background from the second terminator film. ;D
Sounds unfair to me that people wanna put him down just because he has made so much money. Every director in hollywood is ripping their movies from someone else. Cameron has movies with concepts that are not unique but his movies are good because he executes them extremely well.
I now understand why cameron's films are my favorites more than any other. We literally think EXACTLY the same. Its insane how much we have in common!!! Nature lovers for the win ;)!!!!!
AVATAR is one of the greatest artistic achievements in a long while.
You are an awesome researcher! I wish I had someone like you to work with.
he is such an intelligent human
I love how the interviewers stare into their guests eyes during the introduction. I've watched three and they all started the same way lol.
Best director world have
A spectacular visual experience unlike anything you've seen before. It's the experience, more than the story, that's worth celebrating here. For all its powerful technologies, Avatar can't get out from under its essential cardboardness. Alternates between a slurry of Franz Marc expressionism and the most elaborate Thundercats episode ever made When all the hype and hullabaloo about Avatar calms down, we will be left with a film that's no masterpiece, but still well worth seeing.
the terminator arm from t2 and the wheel from titanic in the background

James Cameron raised the bar again!
Cameron's contribution to mainstream cinema is fairly substantial, but surely people watching this interview smile when he says that he doesn't want to "make the same thing twice."
Cameron has done so many different films and stories. Just like Stanley Kubrick did.
I LOVE HIS DESK!!!
James Cameron said it himself the best. We should gain an emotional reaction from Avatar, and translate that emotional response into action. I know many people who have received an emotional response, yet they have moved on... It's disappointing.
This guy should’ve done a Star Wars episode
Yeah, I don't know if I can measure up to this. But I can try.
" Go swim in a corral reef " yeah mate ive got the cash cheers why didnt i think of it ?
@MrSatanochio These videos have been the source of much of my procrastination.
Avatar is the best sci-fi film of all time.
I completely agree
Terminator and Aliens are both Sci-Fi Master piece!
Dear Mr. Cameron, The next time you're making a film about the Titanic, I would love if you would ask me. I'M AT YOUR DISPOSAL
Mr Cameron, please write and direct another Alien movie. Aliens is the best movie in the franchise. I'd love to see what you would come up with.
The last film I recommended to my friends was Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. And now they don't talk to me. Similarly a friend said I should see Pacific Rim, and I fell asleep. Which surprised me because it was made by one of my favourite directors, who in this case didn't seem to really care what story he was telling.
a bold and imaginative vision brought low by a script that plays it very, very safe And for the epic battle at the end, well let me just say it's as believable as the Ewoks beating the Empire at the end of Return of the Jedi. It's a remote-control movie experience, a high-tech "wish you were here" scribbled on a very expensive postcard. The film gets the closest any has to fulfilling the 3-D format's fundamental mission of creating a new, immersive way of looking at movies.
i love all the comments. Everyone talks they could even do a fraction of what is being said here. Personally I think movies are a very underrated entertainment. It should be more like going to the Opera, like a big event that only happens a few times a year.
To be honest I didn't read the article. But I was trawling through you tube clips one day and I happened upon Harlan Ellison talking about the whole incident, and then subsequently read about it possibly in Wikipedia. But the biggest thing that convinced me it was true was the enormous credit that is pasted onto the end of Terminator. It was when Harlan Elison approached him only did he fess up.
Yes he takes another 12 years for avatar 2
I loved the movies that you mentioned. I just wanted to see your taste in movies. I like Cameron`s movies, yes, but there are others i like more than him: Kubrick, Tarantino, Almodovar, Scorsese... to name a few. So i`m not such a big fan, but i like the fact that he`s a perfectionist and a very creative person. Oscars don`t mean shit...well, in 90% of the cases, the movies that won an oscar, are good, at least from what i`ve seen, maybe not overall good, but got oscars for certain aspects.
If you ever watch Titanic beyond the cheezeness of the main love story and set eyes on the back story of the tragedy the Titanic sinking was, then you can really appreciate the genius of the Titanic movie
Go snorkeling in a coral reef? I would, but I don't have $5,000, LOL
Nope 13 years later to be exact

Probably would have matched 12 exactly if not for COVID.
@TheBoomViper most critics have said that it's really nothing special in terms of plot or story. just that it's an un-deniable technical achievement, and for many critics this has been enough to either overlook the story, or perhaps they didn't find the story as bad as I did. but nobody in their right mind could consider it a grandiose achievement in any area besides technology and visuals.
I friggin' loved Avatar.I don't care about what all of these haters have to say, it blew me away when I saw it in theaters for the first time. Hell, since then I've seen it at least 7 times.
Anyone else just hears the terminator music play in their heads after seeing the arm behind him?
My question would be shame you never made spiderman it was a great idea and who would have played spiderman back in 92?
I would die a happy man if James Cameron did a live action adaption that is really faithful to the source material of NEON GENESIS EVANGLION broken up into a trilogy...

Smart guy. Very Successful.
WE DO TAKE A LOT FROM THE EARTH . . . but blue fin tuna and tobiko caviar are sooo good!
What he just said about 3D is so true. I have gained a bit more respect for Mr. Cameron
No, it was Soldier. And I agree wholeheartedly with you re; The Outer Limits.
Yeah, but there's the Berlin Film Festival, The Rotterdam Film Festival, The London Film Festival, The Sydney Film Festival, The Melbourne Film Festival, The Cannes Film Festival, et al. Which all give awards, and it's a minor technicality, but the Oscars are actually called the AAMPAS Awards, that's the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. I don't think anyone has called it the GREATEST international film award, it's just the most heavily sponsored. Usually...
@Hoppus217 If you think Avatar sucked, what's an example of a movie which doesn't suck? In your opinion, which movie has a thick plot with well-built characters?
You would be suprised by how many companies don't as oppose to those who do.
Waiting for Avatar 2
@themainideais Yes, but he's saying that 3D conversion is usually very rushed, whereas he's really taking his time with Titanic's conversion.
@TheBoomViper yes, I think that's been established
Let me drop everything and pay to explore the ocean and go for a lovely stroll through the forest!
What was the power motivation for writing avatar?
@staticsynth1 Give me a fucking break, stop pissing on all the CG/concept artists who put their soul into that project.
search up the Cannes Film Festival.
❤️❤️TITANIC
He should direct another Terminator movie! Or another Aliens movie... James Cameron, am sure there is more story telling from you in those movies.....
"Terminator 2 - Judgement day" was the peak of his creativity and by my opinion the peak in film industry by any criteria (True masterpiece). He created parallel reality with enormous details and background and 100s and 100s of hours of expensive movie material just to make it more realistic in a final cut. "The Terminator" and "Aliens" were fantastic but Avatar is only hi-tech first look make-up lame-hollywood movie.
Great interview I saw Avatar.

Fucking EVERYONE saw Avatar!
Isn't the last frontier still to have a completely CG human as a full character throughout the movie, complete with close-ups? Avatar 2 is still depending on the fact that none of us have a "real" Na'vi to compare these characters to.
@jarred160788 Maybe the retrofitting technology is getting better as well?
i had a dream where cameron made the halo movie. PLEASE MAKE THAT A REALITY! do you people have ANY idea how awesome that would be?
if it runs out of imagination and even some credibility when it comes to the plot, well, there is still enough on the screen to qualify as entertaining eye candy Nothing destroys a decent movie more than calling it great, and while this one's a little better than decent, it's definitely a long way from great Action-heavy epic has dazzling effects, familiar story. For all its flaws as art, Mr. Cameron has served up functional entertainment with a gigantic price tag
anyone who is saying that james cameron is full of him self or avatar is not a big deal is extremely art-blind and only an the artists know that because only people with this kind of vision can understand for real the brilliance of avatar and jims vision for it
I would also wanna know the kind of phone James uses.
Avatar isn't overrated. It was just overhyped is all. I saw it opening day, so I wasn't bombared with hype before seeing it, because nobody saw it before me. And from that point of view, I loved it. Though I will admit, it's not my "favourite" James Cameron movie. My favourites are still Terminator 2: Judgement Day and Aliens. Those are some of the best movies out there. :)
@lfaldrummer12 Agreed. I still liked Avatar, tho.
@EnergizerBunny804 thats true
If he wasn't great he wouldn't be where he is today
Can I have that T800 arm over there?
@EnergizerBunny804 most of the reviews are to that effect they either praise the visuals and knock the story, or just ignore the story all together
I`m just talking about The Terminator 2, i don`t care about the rest. It`s got like 4 oscars or something, anyway. Not really a masterpiece, in the true sense, i got carried away there, but nonetheless, for most of us, an incredible movie, for it`s time and for it`s genre. And yeah, Titanic is an epic movie, whoever disagrees, doesn`t know the meaning of the word epic...Anyway, this was strictly about Cameron and his oscars. Tell me 3 of your favorite movies. I`m serious. Cheers.
avatar 2 and 3 have already been announced :/
What is this? 26 dislikes from hair stylist?
i want that t-800 hand on my desk, plizzz, or i'll be back
@Gustavo0929 office maybe
What is the final scene of Goodfellas? Its him talking about how brilliant it was being a gangster and saying how much he preferred it to living a normal life. Showning that has character hasn't morally developed throughout the course of the film. There's no real evolution in his character. He's the same guy he was at the start of the film.
@blaiserfilms That is true though :)
@ingareinar007 kubrick's in a different league though
@Dzubur93 looking back in retrospect..i wish Cameron, really did clean up the story and script a bit. I mean, it had Fantastic VFX, and possibly the best 3D (That being said, i still hate it as a format)...but such a lackluster, cut n' paste story.
Well it will have taken 11 years for another film from him, maybe.
your damn right! an oscar doesnt mean anything, "the Wrestler" and "the Dark Knight" weren't nominated for best picture, but so what? they're still great films, "Goodfellas" lost to "Dances with wolves" but still is a better film than the "Best picture", and even if "Schindlers list" didn't win the Best picture, nothing would change how great it was. the guy's in charge of the oscars are just film snobs who never nominated "the Wrestler" just because it wasn't too "Tour de force" enough.
@MitsuGTO885 Agree with you.
Its M Night Shamilan's opposite.
Avatar was good but the Na'vi learning was really boring, you have to give him credit for creating the whole mythology behind the Na'vi people and Pandora. Best sci-fi in years. He is the only director in history(i think) who can make great acion, great plot, great comedy, great romance, great sci-fi and even great horror.
@Johnlindsey289 I know nothing about Michael Bay. What does he have to do with anything?
Avatar is overlong, dramatically two-dimensional, smug and simplistic. In spite of the amazing effects, it's yet another lemon from Cameron... A wonder to behold, a story to forget. And with this, the film decade comes to a disappointing conclusion. Forget dancing with wolves, howzabout doing the Funky Chicken with aliens? Avatar is great to look at, often astonishing and sometimes beautiful. But, oh, is the story pedestrian. Enough toys to please all the kiddies in the audience.
If it trys to cover philosophical elements without taken story into consideration it weakens the film. If it's a story were the characters don't develop (like Goodfellas) or have any real internal journey (again like Goodfellas) then it weakens the film. Sarah Connor in T1 clearly changes and evolves as a character from the way she is at the start, to how she is at the end of the film.
@modernwarfare02 Normally, I'd agree but Hurt Locker absolutely deserved to win because it was the best movie.
@MrSatanochio You forgot Aliens. His best film.
@MrNicPhoenix Hmmm. The guy is a legend . Everyone knows that.
his voice sounds like a mix of George Clooney and John Goodman.
I really wanted someone to ask, "Why did Jack dieeee?" or "wasn't there room for both of them on the chunk of wood?"
Just because the concepts are similar doesn't mean they are rip-offs.
yeah not too many people are doesn't afraid of anything
The spanish colonization? He never add the part about the indigenous being cruel to other tribes or sacrificing humans.
