Rage Racer was just on another level, it had darker tones, epic sound track, upgrades, unlockables and just felt like ridge racer got a little serious. I loved the feel of those namco games around that time

Another unappreciated PS1 racing game is Motorhead. And it's funny that the team behind Moto Racer also made Flashback on the Amiga (and Flashback 2 is coming out in 2023!). Great video, Gemma, thank you!

@@gipgap4 Why don't we have a Ridge Racer Collection already? Being able to play the first four games at least on, say, the Switch, is a no-brainer. We had MGS, we had Tomb Raider, give us Ridge Racer.

I can't think about PS1 racing games without remembering the great time I had playing Wipeout 2097, Colin Mcrae Rally, Motorhead, Porsche Challenge and Rage Racer. Good old days.... Great video Gemma ❤❤❤

Rage racer was a great game!

Highly recommend 'Sled Storm" for the PS1. That game has aged quite well and is still a blast to play to this day.

PS1 was just an unforgettable era for me. You bring me back to my childhood.

One that never seems to get mentioned in NGen Racing, banging Matt Darey soundtrack and flying jet planes around race courses! Spent many many hours playing that.

If no one makes a remake or something of that I swear to god one day I’ll learn to code in Unreal Engine 5 and do it my myself

I remember playing Rollcage from the OPM demo disc - there was a competition from the mag to see who could get the fastest time on the single track. I was hopeless but my god what a great game! I'd add Sled Storm and Total Drivin to this list - so much fun playing those. Some great licensed kart games too (woody woodpecker, Disney, toy story, Muppets etc). Great eclectic list Gem! Fricking love the PS1! The graphics should look dodgy these days but for some reason I just love that early 3D grungy, low polygonal look ❤

Me and my sister used to play Porsche Challenge back in the day and it was pretty fun if a bit limited. Never gets much attention these days for some reason.

I liked how you talked about games that I didn't know much about Gebs! Yes you listed many of my favorites at the end there but it was interesting to hear your opinion about some games I've never played much.

I was very hyped Rapid Racer which I saw a demo on a VHS casette. The visuals and the music were amazing. In the end it doesn't quite play as good as other racers. Rollcage I played alot with a friend, splitscreen was really addictive! My top 10: Driver, Twisted Metal, WipEout, WipEout 2097, Vrally, Crash Team Racing, Colin Mcrea2, Gran-Turismo2, Ridge Racer4 Rollcage2

Great video. Im absolutely loving going through the PS1 catalog again...nearly 30 years later!! (How can it be that long?!) I'm picking up so many of the games I rented, the games I owned, and some of the games I simply missed out on, Rollcage being one such title. Im completely in love with the Playstation again. Feels good!

I never got into racing/driving games back in the NES/SNES/Genesis days, maybe cuz there wasn't that many games in the genre back then? Gran Turismo 1 and especially 2, were the games that started my love for racing/driving games.

I'm with you all the way on No Fear Mountain Bike Racing! I love that game in spite of the rough graphics and general lack of polish. It has cool tracks and challenging gameplay. I'm also am a fan of the helmet cam view when racing down those treacherous mountain paths.

I have just got the playstation classic after realising I still missed my PS1. I have been putting more games on it and made sure Raod Rash, Moto Racer 2, GT2, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, Rollcage I and II, Colin Macrae Rally 2.0 and F1 Championship Edition are on it.

Total Driven is a game you must try, great dance music soundtrack also, it's difficult but very enjoyable.

I haven't played many of the games mentioned (Road Rash in the Amiga days, not in PS1 and Rollcage constantly on a demo disc, Rollcage Stage II not so much) but I'm definitely intrigued to try and track some of them down to give them a try. A couple I liked from back in the day were V-Rally and Tommi Makinen Rally, although the main problems with it were how sensitive the cars were if you hit any obstacles. Speed Freaks was another fun Mario Kart style game from demo discs, but maybe suffered from being overshadowed by CTR.

I LOVED No fear as a kid! And I had absolutely forgotten about it. Thank you for unlocking great memories

I love no fear downhill mountain biking it's a super fun game. Like Colin McRae Rally on bikes in my top 3 favourite PS1 games

Need for speed and GT2 were my favorite during the PS1 era. It's all about the cars 😊😊😊

Hot Wheels Extreme Racing and Need For Speed 3 were a lot of fun

My favs are F1 2000, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, Road Rage and Wipeout.

max power racing was a gem of a game

Recently, I wanted to play Riders Republic, but due to my financial difficulty and fearing my pc wouldn't run it well, No Fear Downhill Mountain Biking was a great surprise to find any equivalent game of previous videogame systems. Interesting list Gemma! I'm familiar with some of these and some similars I've had back in the day, I'd like to mention some like 3Xtreme, Need For Speed 3 Hot Pursuit, Test Drive Off Road 3 and Crash Team Racing.

I definitely need to get back in to Riders Republic

Ridge Racer was my first ever game on ps1. Its so limited looking back with only the one track with a variation but it was such a memorable experience as a 12year old. 6 years on i would pop the cd in my first car and blasted rare hero out of the stereo. Good times

Amazing list! Every game is one of my all-time favorites. I especiallly like the shout outs to Turbo Prop Racing (Rapid Racer) and Rally Cross.

Fun video as always... On the first game, have you played Downhill Domination on the PS2... its like the mountain bike one, but much better and polished. For me outside the common ones like CTR, Driver, Formula 1 Championship Edition, Need for Speed Porsche Challenge, Ridge Racer games, Twisted Metal and Wipeout games (especially 3 Special Edition an EU exclusive). I love some lesser known ones like... Ray Tracers (kind of PS1 answer to Chase HQ), Mobil 1 Rally Championship, Motor Toon, Motor Head, N2O, Porsche Challenge, SCARS , San Francisco Rush, Speed Punks, RC De Go, Walt Disney World Magical Racing Tour and Worlds Scariest Police Chases. Actually, have you got a gaming PC? As the emulator Duck Station is stunning, upscaling all these game like its seeing them for the first time. I was playing Loaded and N20 the other day, for part 3 on Gremlin I have been doing for the RGDS podcast and I have been dumbfounded how gorgeous these game look in the Duckstation emulator. Anyway keep up the great work, love your content as always xxn

My #1 will always be Gran Turismo 2, it was 2000 and I was 11 years old and liked some action/horror games for PS1, but I usually didn't like any driving games, except Gran Turismo 2. I'm now playing PS5 and might pick up Gran Turismo 7 one day.

I own both Rollcage games on PlayStation. Rollcage Stage 2 the sequel is definitely more fun. The soundtrack for the second game was actually completely original, made by a bunch of artists from a record label called Moving Shadow. Rollcage punched above its weight class for sure, it’s one of the most chaotic racing games ever made. Oh, and Rollcage did get some fanfare. In 2016, a studio called Caged Element released a game called GRIP. GRIP was worked on by a few ex-Rollcage devs and while the cars feel a lot heavier, it’s Rollcage in unreal engine 4 quality. You shouldn’t have trouble finding GRIP, it’s on every game platform of the last decade or so, even with physical releases. I actually played GRIP years before I played Rollcage

I couldn't help notice that you bought games in Alfreton... I grew up not too far away, having been born in Derbyshire, most of my games were bought in Mansfield (although in the 80s, I reckon I am a bit older than you!)

Rally Cross...played that so much that my buddy and I went halves on a steering wheel...major memories...and you are very pretty...

I remember Moto Racer 2 but I played it on pc back then I believe on a voodoo 2 gpu. Nice smooth looking visuals and 60fps. Sure was a step up over my PS1 and Saturn that's for sure. I payed Road Rash but on the 3DO,amazing for the time.

My favs are Colin McRae Rally and Need for Speed 3 Hot Pursuit

I recently just picked up rollcage and played it for the first time. As a kid I always wanted to play it and never got a copy. It's really good and I'm glad I'm finally getting round to playing it. Also I have fond memories of playing no fear mountain biking. It's has such an individual vibe. Loved it

My favourite racing game growing up was death race 16, yes I'm old, it was on the Commodore 16 plus 4, the colours were so bright it blinded you, that was the only racing game I had as a kid as I didn't have any on the nes, I remember enjoying one called wrecking crew on the ps1 at the time but it hasn't aged too well, I also enjoyed Porsche challenge, I also remember playing a lot of Dukes of Hazard although it is quite repetitive, 007 racing was OK, probably the best racer on ps1 was Crash Team Racing but that's really just a maro Karl rip off but a good one, sadly my copy broke and it goes for silly money nowadays.

Omfg I've been trying to figure out what that biking game was called FOR YEEEEARS. Me, my siblings and cousins used to play No Fear Downhill Mountain Biking all the time at our grandparents house after school. THANK YOU, nostalgia attack

Suzuki Alstare Extreme Racing is a brilliant superbike game on the Dreamcast from the makers of Burnout, definitely an underrated gem. Also Grip is an awesome modern take on the Rollcage formula.

Rollcage! What a game that was!

I did play moto racer 2 back in the day and loved it,😁 such a good game. Another that i got a little addicted to was test drive 5 , if you haven't tried it i would highly recommend giving it a bash ( arcadey, fast, great music and really cool replays if i remember right)🤔.

Cool racing games :) Never had any of these games, but they sure look good. Mille Miglia for example, great looking game. I have special issue of Official Playstation magazine, which had several playable demos of various racing games, that was fun one :) Other than Gran Turismo 1 and 2, had also for example Ridge Racer Type 4, V-Rally2 and Formula 1 '99, which had Finnish commentators in it, who commented also F1 races on TV at the time.

Late to the party comment! On your 007 comment - have a look at the PS2 Bond games if you haven't already. Everything Or Nothing and Nightfire are brilliant games. From Russia With Love is good too.

Regarding "Rollcage"it was an awesome game and the PS4 version that came out a few years ago was made by the original team of Rollcage. The PS4 version was amazing

those were some great games in which you showcased, its odd though that Hydro Thunder did not make your list, that has to be the most just laidback and fun fun est game, well in my opinion, around, o i mean in the racing game sector. if i had the time though, i would check out every game in which helped mold and shape your life. its always good to see somebody in which video games literally helped along a better life overall!! hope everything is alright with you though! keep safe and until next vid.!

Burning road is an under rated game. It’s the most Sega racing game to ever grace the PlayStation. I had a lot of fun with it. You can switch off all the Talarico stuff and have the original wacky Japanese Audio. And you can wait for new challengers to come while the game is loading. 😂

Rollcage very much lives on as GRIP. It's essentially the same game for the current gen. You should check it out, I was chuffed knowing it's pretty much a sequel to Rollcage not a lot of people know about! Down to drum and bass soundtrack!

Did I miss what game and console the bond game was ?

The control of 007 Racing was so poor I just could not get into it at the time. For hidden gems, I remember the playing Street Racer on the PS1 and had a lot of fun. Also played Formula 1 recently and had great time and so much content with being able to play arcade or simulation modes - Bizarre Creations made great racing games at the time. Destruction Derby 2 I also enjoyed more than the original - to me everything was improved and just played better

There is about half of them games I've never heard of good choice of 10 tho 👍

Despite the criticism that it's received in the past, I think No Fear is a great little game. So, I'm glad that there are other people out there who also enjoy it. Rollcage is fantastic. Much better than WipeOut in my opinion.

Formula 1 on the PS1 is still a brilliant game.

Yeah loved I Formula 1 97. It was great having Murray Walker commentary, especially when you went into tunnels and his commentary would start to echo too as though he was sitting on the car, lol. Great times.

do you remember jet moto 1 and 2? those games ripped ass... they were gonna make 2 xtreme sports games. one jet ski and the other motocross and they decided to merge them... amazing racing games...

In Italian you don't pronounce the G in Miglia, so basically it is Mille Milia 😉
