10 Piano Exercises to Develop Speed & Stamina (Full Tutorial)

It's important to warm-up when practicing piano. But sometimes warm-ups and other technical exercises can get a bit boring, and don't sound great.
The Piano Warm-Up Challenge is a warm-up that will not only get your fingers moving, but will also help to develop speed, coordination and technique. But more improtantly it's great fun to play, especially when played along with the backing track!
There are 10 stages that build up in difficulty. It doesn't matter if you can't through all the stages first time. Treat whichever stage you can reach as your benchmark. Then you can learn the later stages over time, improvising your skills and measuring your progress, until you eventually reach Stage 10!

At 11:52, the fingering for the left hand ascending arpeggio can also be 5,4,2,1,4,2,1, with the same fingering going down. This theoretically would make arpeggio changes easier. For example, C major arpegio, 5,4,2,1 to F major, 2nd inversion, 5,3,2,1. Just my 2 cents as this suggestion may be helpful to some as everyone's hands are different. 5,3,2,1,3,2,1 as shown in this video is also correct for the progression that is shown. Arthur, as always, excellent video! Thank you! 🎹 🙂👍

As a beginner, I wonder if it might be beneficial to to think of the things that beginners struggle with. One of these is the left hand 1-5-8 shape. The other is when I play “seven” chords in my right hand. So now I wish that in the beginning, when I learned to play the major triads using my thumb, middle, and pinkie finger, I should have instead learned to play those with my first, second, and fourth finger. It would have strengthened my fourth finger and when I played a “seven” chord I would just add the pinkie in. As it is now, that thumb, middle, pinkie for the triads is relatively ingrained so I am struggling with the finger switching on the seven chords (C7, G7, etc).

Hi James, yes I do try and make videos for beginners as well, I just felt like trying something different with this video. The 1-3-5 fingering is often taught this way to help beginners remember the chord triad shapes when first starting out, but I see your point!

@@BirdsPianoAcademy my comment was in general, and brought to my attention by another example of that 1-5-8 left hand shape which I am finding is more and more common in what I’m watching. I love your videos, however, so keep up the good work.

I have an extensive knowledge of theory and can play any chord in any key......but my practical ability sucks. I subscribed to Arthur's channel sometime ago.....I don't learn anything new from a theory perspective but I use multiple videos he has posted like this one in my practice routines. They are fantastic......they help me in playing technique......if you struggle with theory.....his videos actually teach you a lot of theory without you realising it....

Thank for this comment. Yes I try to find ways to get people playing piano without getting too theory heavy. However I may introduce more theory focused lessons down the line.
