Hello from France! Not Paris but 🤷🏻‍♀️. Thank you for the video. A lot of videos I see about making things « the french way » are soooo inacurate, but yours nailed it! You are right about us not wanting to not give the impression of trying too hard. I think it’s because then it would miss the spontaneous vibe we love. Also I always feel uncomfortable in too perfect homes, where there are no decoration or random things on mantles or furniture. It makes it feel like a museum instead of a home, where you need to feel like there’s a life going on. Thanks again, and sorry if I did mistakes with my english 😊

Your information replays in my mind as I decorate my home. One of the most important set of tips was from your video re 3 pillars (or something like that): plants (to bring life); art (to bring character); and lighting (mood). Brilliant!!

I love what you are saying! My husband travels to France for work for the last 13 years. I have been with him quite a few times. It has changed our entire lives. How we cook how I decorate how we live... we walk everywhere now or take our bikes when we can. It is a life style! And yes milady! My curtains puddle puddle puddle in all my rooms... I have white full linen curtains if looks amazing like a touch of Provence ❤️ you are my soul mate. I help people with their homes. You are spot on with what you are saying!❤️

I love that you mentioned the difference between staying in a hotel versus someone's home. For years, I have exclusively used Airbnb (or similar) for trips to Europe. I've stayed in some beautiful (and affordable, usually less than a hotel) homes that have inspired me so much from a design perspective! Xo from Canada

Give Atlanta decorators more credit.........we've been letting drapes puddle on the floor for decades! I've had my custom Belgium white linen drapes puddle on the floor for years and always have your drapes hung as high as possible........that's just as important. Also, a Louis Philippe mirror is always a great French touch in any room........I've been decorating with them for years and they always add that classic traditional look I love. My secret is to always add classic traditional touches throughout your home and you can't go wrong. Sometimes I feel people get too theme oriented and your house looks like French country overload or people go way too modern with everything. Great taste to me is someone who knows how to mix it all up and come out with a great look(always with a eye for quality).........these decorators who pull this off are hard to find!

  • @HouseofValentina

oh no! I didn't mean it as a new decorating trick, but most of my clients have never heard of it. I totally agree that mixing it all up is how we end up with something beautiful, meaningful, and personal. Love it!

Hello from Paris, I'm 3 years late but just found your channel! So honestly this is the best video I have seen by far on Paris and the lifestyle. With a gracious respect conveyed for the people and culture. I love the effortless chic lifestyle here and coming from England; we are similar to the USA in many ways; its so refreshing to not be perfect with your home as I had to be when i lived there . The properties / large Apartments are so expensive here so its good to mix and match items and treasured finds according to your budget. I do everything you said in your video, from the pooling curtains to the trinkets from my travels. I love fresh flowers also :) I have learned how to do this from simply living here. Living abroad is a life changing experience it broadens your perspective and inspires a richness to the every day. Lastly: I love what you said about the extending of your home lifestyle. Going to a cafe and spending hours is normal and resturant's LITERALLY ARE EVERYWHERE along with Parks so I am thankful for that. love the photos so much to be inspired by, bless you and thanks :) x

Such great practical tips! I think also having the mentality of taking TIME to curate your home is something we don’t do in NA. I love mixing in classic furniture with more detail into my home to balance out the 90s builder grade box I’m starting with, and I always find my favourite pieces on FB marketplace because I can get a more detailed piece for way less than from a retailer now, and they are often better quality!

Your last hack is actually something I learned in my travels too ... I try to invest in one large item wherever I am. I have found a huge desire to purchase art. I have a watercolor from Mikonos, hand carved masks from Africa, photography and oil painting from famous photographer and artist in Charleston, SC, a large cameo I wear from the gift shop in the Vatican that the Pope prayed over that I will one day hand down to my kids and ironically, the most expensive thing I bought overseas. And I do this domestically too, so that’s really just the tip of the iceberg! Not only are these things so beautiful to me, but I feel like I’m surrounded by my memories of the trips I’ve taken. It’s so personal and my friends love hearing the story behind each item. It’s like living with the most wonderful part of each trip!

It took my husband and me a while to realize that we actually dislike souvenirs. Now, we just buy something small that we can put on our Christmas tree. Every year, when we decorate our tree, we're reminded of our travels. We have hot cocoa, biscotti and talk about staying in beautiful historical houses in Portugal's Douro Valley during Christmas, haggling in the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, hiking the Cinque Terre, swimming in a volcanic crater in Nicaragua, smoking cigars with a tobacco farmer in Cuba, the midnight sun keeping us awake in Iceland, etc. It's really nice to think of the adventures we've had, but I don't want all of those knick knacks around all the time. Then, I hide the little Loch Ness monster bell that my husband bought in Scotland on the back of the tree, and we go to bed thinking of all the places we still want to go.

I chose to do a modern French theme for my new bedroom because it has white decorative ceilings that are very tall. I love that Paris apartments have fireplaces in every room. It took my awhile to nail down my personal style until I started looking at photos of Paris apartments, a mix of new with old.

Woohoo, over 40k! You deserve it. Great work! Would love to see new tours of your home offices. Under the current circumstances, I’m sure others would agree. I hope your mom is well and the older lady that you remodeled for (sorry I can’t recall her name). Thanks for your content Valentina!
