I've heard a number of "as good as the payware" reviews, but you present seriously good stuff. There are a lot of good freeware and freeish ware out, but these plugs, and your synth suggestions, are top shelf. Thanks for the reviews. And the virtual coffee. I do the optional pants thing during the summer myself.

Addition to the list - VCV Rack. Completely free and powerful modular synth (although it's practically a DAW now) with free access to things like Mutable Instruments, and trust me, you want Clouds for sound design. Over 2000 modules, and a lot of weird quirky things that don't really exist anywhere else. Modular can be time consuming, but also a huge time saver for certain things. One of my tricks is to load up one of the samplers, point it to a directory of, say, 300 hi-hat samples, and use sample and hold to randomly select samples for every note. Of course manipulating pitch and decay as well. That would take weeks to do elsewhere (as far as I know). Record, pull it into a session, and it's something unique that'll never happen again. One module will let you load NES roms and play any game with any CV source, or vice versa, another will let you play Snake with authentic graphics. Nuff said.

I almost had VCV in here but as it's not a true 'plugin' yet I left it off the list. Once VCV gets VST support though that'll be a gamechanger!

No, I meant VCV as a VST plugin itself, which could then be hosted in any DAW.

Paulstretch is a vst on LSD... It went from Drum sample to violin synth lol

Supermassive is one of my absolute favorites. I’ve used only my harp to create some amazing drones and atmospheres. I also use it on nearly every single one of my songs because there’s just enough freedom and presets to tweak etc that you can get an insane amount of use out of it for a free plug in. And pairing Spitfires Soft Piano with it?! Just damn 🦄😩✨

I like using TDR's free compressor and Fresh Air by Slate Digital on my master output. I also use Valhalla Supermassive on, like... everything. From pianos to synths to strings to drums. Everything.

Blue Cat's Triple EQ is another solid one to look into, comes in stereo/mono/dual Oh and Ambience by Smartelectronix is just as crazy as cloudseed, would be really trippy to hear those two together

I'll be adding a couple to my Mixcraft stable. Enjoy your coffee. I am. :-) Plugins that I have used a lot: Filter Grizzly, Cajon-Fu (a shipload of my early stuff had this for drums) iZotope Mastering Essentials (I prefer this as mush as the 31-band EQ in Mixcraft) and for a synth - TAL Noisemaker. Thank you for the video. It's a great list of useful plugins! Actually, it took me some time to learn mixing-related things to realize how good these are. (as a beginner, one can't say why and when you need different compressors, but at some point it's like WOW, THAT'S WHY!!!) It's a good mix of well-known plugins as well as some extra things I've never heard before.

Great call on Surge and Helm. Both are really fun to use and can sound very deep very quickly and pretty modern especially after you drop some effects on them.

Hey man. Love your stuff. I'm a SFX editor in film and I have to admit, there seems to be a lack of videos on plug ins for purely sound FX rather than sound design. Great plugin list! I wanted to put you on Bertom's plugins (if you haven't checked them out already.) They currently have a spectrum analyzer (kinda) and a denoiser out. They're both free and powerful.

PG8X. Virtual Roland JX8-P. Very good emulation of the funkiest synth ever made (after the Arp 2600, of course)
