    I recommend reading books by C. I. Scofield, Lewis Sperry Chafer, and Clarence Larkin. I'm not trying to start an argument in your video, but calvinism did not originate with John Calvin, it originated with the Roman Catholic st Augustine. Therefore calvinism cannot be traced before Agustine. Calvinism is a false system. Just because the reformers believed it, it doesn't mean it's true. The protestant reformers were wrong in some areas, one of those was adopting the false system of calvinism.

  • @CateOtanes

    @CateOtanes

    thanks for the recommendation. My aim in this video is not to convert viewers into calvinism. I am quite aware that it originated from Augustine. However, I still have not come across a sufficient argument against it as the doctrine of predestination is all over Scripture.

  • @NorCalGospelHerald

    @NorCalGospelHerald

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@CateOtanes Yes it's true that predestination is all over the bible, but it doesn't mean what calvinists make it seem. When they mean predestination, they mean God chose some to salvation and others to hell, which is an evil corrupted view of God. All calvinists think they are special because they are the ones God "chose" to salvation and not grouped with the folks chosen to hell. Predestination in the bible is never to a place such as heaven or hell. When a person believes in Christ by their own freewill, they are predestined to be a son or daughter of God. There are some great books out there that have refuted calvinism, check out Dave Hunt's "What Love Is This" and Anthony Badger "Confronting Calvinism". The reason so many believers believe calvinism is because it's a popular teaching by big name preachers who advocate it. You won't find calvinism in the bible from Genesis to Revelation. My advice to you sister is to be a berean (Acts 17:11). Just because a preacher is popular, it doesn't mean they are correct. Anyways I hope you have a blessed day ☺️

  • @CateOtanes

    I think it is unfair to say “all calvinists” think they’re special. That’s just unjustifiable. Lumping all Christians who hold to the doctrine of predestination as reformed christians portray it under one category is not fair. I’m not here to debate. I’ve been a “berean” since 2015 and studying the Scripture rigorously. I’ve been trained as an academic to think critically and exegete the Scripture well. My former mentor, a godly Christian did not hold to Calvinistic doctrines and this mentor influenced my theology greatly. However, upon many years of rigorous research, looking at Open theism, Wesleyan, Arminianism, Calvinism. I came to the conclusion that Calvinistic doctrine is biblical. And many misunderstood it and I was one of them. It took me 4 years of studying theology to come to that conclusion. Although I believe this is a good discussion to have, it should not give us the license to talk how calvinists got it wrong. They’ve thought about this for a very long time and hold to the infallibility of the Word. As Spurgeon once said “Satan does not care whether he drags you down to hell as a Calvinist or as an Arminian as long as he can get you there.” Thanks for your thoughts and taking the time to comment, I appreciate you feeling welcome to correct me. God bless you too

    @@CateOtanes Thank you for your comment. To be honest with you sister, I don't care what calvinism teaches. Calvinism is going to one extreme of the spectrum, on the other end you have arminianism. Both of those systems are wrong, because the bible teaches a balance of the free will of man and the sovereignty of God. It's important to have a balanced theology because the bible is balanced. Many of the leading calvinists are wrong on their calvinism. The scriptures do not support it, it's a dead system. Frankly I don't care how many years of bible college one got to be taught calvinism, it is a false system. I'm a layman, but I have learned sound doctrine by great teachers and studying my bible on my own. I'm not trying to sound rude or anything of that nature to you sister. The reason I don't believe in calvinism or even arminianism is because both of those systems are false. You would have to force those systems into scripture. But anyways I don't want to take up your comment section with arguments.
