Is she expecting!? Oh wonderful. Congratulations!!
Using Glad seal wrap is an easy way for avoiding the fluff mess …just press a strip on the minky before cutting. Also, it’s great for a no pin method of holding a fabric onto the larger size minky then stitching, cutting off excess minky, then tearing off the seal wrap. No residue left behind and no gunked up needles. (Reusable too, for a couple of times, if you want to be super frugal.). 😊

I’m in Clinton Iowa, beautiful scenery on the river Road from here to Dubuque Iowa I’m from Clinton Iowa. Enjoying your vidios!
Awww yay! I was blown away when I found out I’ve been PINNING WRONG 😑 🤣!! My mother in law & I are embarking on a new journey making minky(Shannon) items & this was literally dropped at the perfect time! My first order should be here Friday 🥳
This is "sew" helpful. I was having issues and it turned out to be bothe the needle and thread type. TY for making this a better experience. Loved the pinning tips also.
Great tips ty, and great close ups! 👍
This was such a sweet video! Really loved this!
I like to watch you on youtube, but your volume is not very loud.
PERFECT timing for this video. I just started sewing a costume for my granddaughters Halloween costume from Cuddle Luxe. Thank you!
I love minky but can’t afford it right now, maybe in 2022. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks so much for sharing these helpful tips!
this presentation was fun and amazingly helpful Thanks!

Proper closed captioning would go a long way, especially since the volume is a bit soft even at max. Please consider so this useful video is more accessible.

I have a cotton top that’s about 42” x 54” and cuddle 3 for the back. Do I spray baste top to batting then cuddle to those two or a different order? Thanks!
@ShannonFabrics
2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can do it that way. I like to spray baste the cotton top to the batting, then the batting to the Cuddle. I leave the Cuddle extra big, then trim down after quilting. --teresa
Excellent video....what if I was to use the low snap Minky as a quilt backing and planned to do Edge-to-Edge quilting on the cotton top.....any extra tips for that?
@ShannonFabrics
2 жыл бұрын
You can absolutely do that! It's beautiful backing for cotton-top quilts. When edge to edge quilting, some like to use a little basting spray. Do make sure that you don't stretch the backing when quilting, whether it's on a long-arm, domestic machine or on your embroidery machine. ---teresa

@@ShannonFabrics Thank you so much....just wasn't sure how to do it all, but I assumed it would be fine and could follow your tips. Would you recommend the same needle type even tho the top is cotton/bottom is Minky?

@@PWallace23 Generally the quilting is done with a Quilting needle and not a Stretch/Ballpoint, but if you are getting skipped stitches, try switching the needle back. --teresa

Hi, I watched your hour long video last year on minky blanket making. It was great. Any tips for working with the shaggy? I love and hate it. You can't just easily stiletto the edges to lift the fabric out. I'm finding it harder than Joann shaggy faux fur. Thanks for any tips.
@ShannonFabrics
Жыл бұрын
I use blue tape to swish the shaggy to the side and keep it out of the way when I am sewing. I know others use a water soluble topper over it to keep it out of the way and prevent the foot from catching on the long fibers. Check out our I Love Cuddle Fabric Facebook group for a whole thread about sewing with Shaggy. --teresa

@@ShannonFabrics thank you and will do. I spoke with Linda in Lapeer MI. She's about 45 minutes from me. Small world! Anyway. she suggested a stiletto or embroidery stabilizers. I did the stiletto, changed to a zipper foot 1st and then eventually just held it back by hand changing my grip on holding fabric even for the edges with clips then just pushing the fabric out of the way with both hands. I felt silly! Texted her back thanking her and to let her know how embarrassed I was for not even thinking about changing my hold on it!! Another male rep I believe responded to a message on Facebook. You guys have stellar customer service. Corporate office was who hooked me up with Linda. She gave me your class dates for September. I'm not sure if I can attend. I need it. My 1st blanket was a Shannon Minky Hide or Alex self binding with cotton Avengers. I absolutely loved doing it. Besides the math. I've got permanent damage in my brain. Maths and I do not get along!! My granddaughter wants a Lelo and Stitch on Minky. I was thinking of doing a self binding for a 58"×72". I just finished my last shaggy for now. 3rd x is a charm. I've found that not pinning gave me the opportunity to finish in only 1 hour. I pinned or rather clipped the 1st end and then did no others. It is smoother and so much faster. It stays in place unlinke all other minky I've worked with. I ordered 24 more yards today. 16 shaggy and 4 Hide. I'm literally on Amazon right before seeing this notification email and buying some more for other grans hoodie and blankets. I'm going to try this shaggy for her hoodie. I did one with shaggy faux fur from Joann months ago. The backing on this will be better. The other sheds and fur comes through onto the inside of hoodie almost making seam ripping impossible. Sorry for babbling on. I'm a newbie to sewing since November. I've made roughly 20 blankets, pillowcases, pillows, invisible zipper linen Euro pillow covers and hoodies. I absolutely love it! I've been on and off of Hospice since 2018 and only out of bed on a daily basis and 45# lighter since November 4th due to sewing for my 6 grans and 2 adult son's who saw what their kids got and wanted the same. I wish I would have found it decades ago. I am so grateful for KZread, all the instructional video and time that everyone takes sharing knowledge. Your video on the throw making was priceless. Not pinning everything at once was a game changer as was the double pinning on a lot of the fabrics. Especially with multi layers. Thanks again, Tiffany

You can try lessening the thread tension just a bit and take your time. When you are done you can run the stiletto along the stitching to pull the fibers out, but generally they will work themselves out over time. --teresa

If you use 505 on right side does it mess up the fabric?

It should wash it with warm, soapy water. I like to spot clean the area, then put it through a wash cycle. -teresa
What kind of HAND HELD VACUUM DO YOU USE???
@ShannonFabrics

I use a Black and Decker Hand Vac. It is rechargeable and has worked for years! --teresa
5O5 does NOT wash out of minky. You can’t wash and dry it hot enough for it to come out and you can’t dry clean it. I did literally everything, including scrubbing it with rubbing alcohol. I love it for sandwiching, but I’ll never ever use it again for something where I need to spray the front side.
@ShannonFabrics

We recommend only spray basting the wrong side of the fabric. While the sticky will release when it is washed, it may not completely wash out, as you experienced. I hope you were able to salvage the project. --teresa

I had the same experience attaching appliqué to front of a Minky blanket. Overspray was unavoidable. Try using Sulky KK2000. It holds yet doesn’t gum up my machine needles, my embroidery hoops, or leave a residue on my fabrics; It completely evaporates within a day or two. My favorite part - it’s non toxic, not flammable, doesn’t need to be used outside (read the warning label on 505, it used to say ‘use outside or in well ventilated area) and is not harmful to the environment.

35:27 “Chemicals”…Call me crazy, but in making a baby blanket…why would I want to use a chemical spray that won’t fully wash out? Sorry, but that’s absurd. Any better truly non toxic alternatives?
That should say minky
