Great video, but one thing. Jacob's Ladder. He was NOT dead the whole time. Jacob was fatally wounded in Vietnam. The movie took place in his mind, it was fighting it, it was his mind trying to live out his life, but when he had the "attacks" he was seeing the doctors and nurses, trying to save his life. Only at the end when his son told him it was time and to come with him, that he finally gave up and accepted that his fate. It was then that his body gave out finally and he died. .

_Jacob's Ladder_ holds a special place for me. I saw it with someone who had been diagnosed with a fatal disease and was only weeks away from entering the hospital for the last time. We went to see a horror movie because we both liked them and saw them as a means of escape. But this film had the opposite effect. Usually we'd spend half the night talking about whatever we saw, picking it apart, teasing out the subtext. But after _Jacob's Ladder,_ we both sat in the car, in complete silence for a long time, before I finally started it up and drove her home. I think it was late the next day before we spoke to each other again. Yeah, its twist is an old trope, and I did suspect what it ended up being, but the emotional toll the film took put it on another level. I can't say how much of the effect on me personally was due to the personal circumstances, but I've never forgotten it.

You should definitely do the horror list btw… I would absolutely love that. I knew all of the ones on this list except for one, so I’m gonna go and check it out tonight 🤭 As for my little contribution, there’s a Norwegian film from 05 called “Naboer”, and sometimes “Next Door” in English advertising. It’s definitely not for the feigned of heart, but once I understood what was going on my jaw was on the floor !!! It’s criminally underrated…. I even saw that some idiots even gave it some bad reviews but believe me… As a long time fan of horror and a psychological thriller fanatic, this film was spectacular and you won’t forget it…

Thanks very much for this video, Emma. It was a great format and gave me the chance to select which explanations I wanted to hear. Most of the films I had seen, so it was fun to relive most of the twists. I chose to listen to one explanation to a film I know I probably can't sit through, and it was worth finding out, just to put it to rest. I've got a funny story to go with one of these films. Back in 2007, I went with a friend to see "The Mist". Now, I had read the Stephen King story, but my friend had not. I thought the film would be a good watch based on what I read. Well, the "twist ending" shocked us both and my friend really got upset with me. He wondered how I could have recommended a film with such a depressing ending. Well, I didn't know, and I had to explain that. He was upset with me for a short while, but it blew over.

On the Mist, I always thought the "crazy" religious lady ended up being right. Especially since the help arrived after he killed his son. Also, The Orphanage is the movie that got me into watching non American or non English language horror movies. I highly recommend people to watch it if they haven't. It's not really a horror movie but more of an underrated thriller, I always thought the movie The Skeleton Key had a great twist at the end.

great video and I like the list for the titles I know and even more for those I haven't watched yet. But Incendies (Villeneuve) had to be on this list 100%. Much more than Prisoner (which is a good movie in any case) and many other titles. Scarier and more disturbing twist than most horror movies. The sum scene. Those who know, know. Sleepaway camp is another one. Definitely not a masterpiece by any mean of the imagination, but the ending is unforgettable.

I just watched the Orphanage a few weeks back and loved it. I'm glad I bought it because it is one I'll definitely rewatch. That quick shot with the schoolmaster's broken jaw was pretty disturbing. I guess that's the only reasons for the R-rating? Not the scariest film or the most original, but definitely it has its moments of tension and I thought it was very well done. Beautiful atmosphere and quite haunting. Jacob's Ladder is one I need to see again. I found it really interesting. The scene where he is being moved through the hospital on stretcher and all that gore is all on floor, and just the insane, inhuman movements of the people inside and bizarre imagery really stuck with me. It probably does the best job of conveying what being a paranoid psychotic might be like of any film I have seen, and I can see how the visual imagery inspired video games like Silent Hill.

Have you seen “Daddy’s little girl”? It’s not what you think (he actually loves his daughter in a good way) but it is so sad and really brutal.

When I saw the title I just knew The Mist would be on here. The ending is such a downer I can't even rewatch the movie after all this time! 😅

I have been refusing to watch "A Serbian film" because of "that scene". The first time I tried I got to that part and I was so disgusted I stop right there. But now you told about a twist in the ending and I am totally eager to know what that is. I think I will rewatch and just skip "that scene".

I love these type of movies. I just enjoy being shocked and disturbed by dark endings because they are so twisted

To me, one of the most disturbing - and heartbreaking - plot twists ever is in another Villeneuve film, Incendies. Oh Lord... whyyy (masterpiece alert)

I would recommend "The Treatment" (2014 ) as a candidate for a future list. The novel it is based on is equally disturbing, upsetting and well done.

I saw The Skin i Live in in school. My spanish teacher figured it was a good movie to show her class. Let's sat it was a controversial choice among both students and parents. But then again my english teacher (i'm from Brasil) showed us the ring when i was in middle school, so i don't really know wtf my school was thinking...

If you think about doing another video like this I think "Kill list" should have a spot. It's very slow, but worth it.
