@@Erix7810 Not a chevy fan, but I did buy an 02 like you did, and it had 244k miles on it when I sold it for 500 bucks and still ran great (timing chain was making noise though). All it needed was fluids changed, spark plugs, and new coil packs.

The glory days when a one eyed demon (car with one headlight and the working one aimed high) driven by a drunk ,comes out of the winter 02:00 hrs drizzle and sleet, on a single carriagway ,way over the speed limit, driving straddled on the white line and cleaves your door mirror off at a combined speed of plus 120mph. Very nice and historical.

I miss simple, uncluttered dashboards, with easy-to-read gauges.

The USD prices for the Jag and Capri are straight conversions at the current exchange rate, not the advertised prices from back in the day. Ford proudly advertised an $1800 launch price for a stripper Pinto and the Capri would've been upscale of it so $2500 at least. Granted that would've been for a 2.0 with the GXL trim in all but name.

Not so much for me. That configuration dates back to the 1920's. These days we can build FWD cars that are not affected by most of the FWD drawbacks.

No, I’m talking plastic, as plastic refers to a myriad of chemical compounds that we use nowadays, some are strong, some elastic, some lubricious, bla bla... I wrote the previous comment in reference to those moronic claims that plastics are superior to proper metal... And regarding the carbon fiber, yeah, that is plastic aswell, carbon fiber reinforced epoxy resin to me is plastic, a phenomenal plastic, which I do appreciate since I actually learned how to work with it, but all it’s great pluses aside, hoe is a hoe and carbon fiber, even carbon-kevlar epoxy is still plastic, with bits in it... if you have chunks of corn in yer crap, you still call it crap... The carbon, carbon kevlar or carbon titanium kevlar matrices are still trapped in epoxy which is similar to plastique in every notable way...

My 2003 Honda can tell me pretty close to what is wrong via OBDII codes. I use a Chinese OBDII scanner from eBay that costs $15. Google then tells me what the code means. It is actually easier to fix than older cars I have owned.

Back when those old cars were new you didn't have texting and driving. I mean, yeah, you still had bad drivers but nothing like the people on the roads today.

I miss the BMW E60 from 2006 too. I swear it smelled like a new car to 2014 and than it got destroyed in a Crash.

Hate modern infotainment (or screens in general). Love Bluetooth. Love the 1 inch screen giving me speed, don't mind the 3 inch screen in the distance telling me boost, water and engine oil temp, but that's it. Make car interiors analog again. Nothing dates a car more then infotainments, like they're 5 years older then they actually are.

Buggatti have refused to use digital screens in their because they do do not want their cars to age badly. I've seen cars with 15 year old screens in the centre console and the display is low res grainy and dull and some of the digital graphics on the dashboard are just as bad.

This for sure. I walk up to my friends E30 and realize its the same size as most modern 2 seaters, yet on the inside has all the space you need (and plenty of visibility). Easier to park and drive, and there's plenty of advantages from the reduced weight. I think they look better when they aren't so bloated too.

i drive an e30 coupe and i compared it to my buddy's 1 series coupe, theyre pretty much the same length, the 1 series is a lot wider and you can only seat 2 in the 1 series compared to 4, and maybe 5 if youre really pushing it in my e30, wouldnt say easier to park though, without power steering it can be a hard assignment sometimes

LMAO, I once special ordered a MINI and specified that I wanted a plain old steering wheel. They didn't get the memo exactly: the buttons were still there but they were deactivated! On the other hand, at least nothing will short out if I accidentally spill a drink on the steering wheel as the salesperson told me that the buttons had no wiring behind them.

Three, metal spokes with either a wood or leather wrapped rim is. No fat spokes with buttons galore, no two or four rubbery/chubby spokes, just a wheel I can grip, spokes and a small center hub....except the small center hub makes it tough to cram an airbag in there. Tradeoffs, oh well.

My car history (going by age) is: 1970 VW 411L: Traded in 1982 BMW 518i E12/8: Stolen 1987 Mazda 323 (1.5 SL, pretty rare model these days and very rare in that condition) 1999 BMW Z3 2.8 That Z3 is about the only 90's car that I'm willing to own, and I'm not willing to go post '00.

@@xGxPhantomZzz Xenons are a nightmare for everyone period they are just dreadful if they go up a slight bump or are facing you whilst going down a hill they leave you dazzled for a good 2 minutes, LEDs are a bit better but even so they are pretty bad whats worse all these high riding SUV's are being fitted with them too and they beam down into your car especially if you ride low. On some of these modern cars you don't even need full beam the dipped headlights are that bright, I dread to think what level of light they emit on full beam.

Especially the ones in Audi cars!! I have been dazzled more times than I car to count by low beam led lights, i swear their white light is actually harming my eyes.

My car has no AC, no power steering, no electric windows, no electric/heated mirrors, no height adjustable seat or steering wheel, doesn't even have a rev gauge and the engine temp gauge doesn't work which some would see as an problem but I see it as 1 less thing to go wrong... as it already has

I really miss the time when BMW and Mercedes actually made decent cars that would last. If you buy one these days, keeping it after the warranty has expired is risky AF!

If you get a diesel e90-e91 BMW 318D or 320D with minimum options (No iDrive) they last pretty damn long, mine has now done 150k miles with nothing but regular service, nothing has ever broken yet! And I've seen a few with over 400k! If you look hard enough, there are many modern reliable cars, it's just that they are a lot less common, and most of them are very basic.

RtistiqSkubie look at all the 90s SUV’s they all have the same body proportions and boxy look. Look at the economy cars of the 70’s they all look the same. Unless it’s a performance vehicle, or a nameplate that has a long history, there’s really not that much of a deviation from other cars in its segment. It’s always been like that. The only ones we remember are the ones that stood out. Not to mention that manufacturers love to have a common design language across the brand.

Can’t beat old seats, the classic vintage leather in some old cars, Mostly hand made. Beautiful.

I miss styling and size. The cars of the 60s and 70s were beautiful. Interiors were incredibly lavish with button-tufted pillow-topped seats in crushed velour or leather, door panels were thickly and softly padded with full-length armrests and ornate door pulls. Roofs were padded and covered in patterned vinyl. And many cars were decent sized -about 18-19 feet long. And often almost 7 feet wide. Almost all modern cars are dinky little things, and they look like hell.

This is sounding a bit like nostalgia and "old man grumpiness", but to me most cars after 2000 seem very disposable.

Not gone yet, but definitely on the way out. It seems like for every one of us who prefers a good old handbrake, there are a dozen car buyers who only care about having more cupholders, storage or USB ports in the center console, so out goes the handbrake to make more room. :(

I've always called them vent windows. And they were mostly phased out of cars in the early 80s. But the Ford F-series trucks and E-Series vans had them up till 1996 (1997 for the F-250 and F-350) and 1991 respectively.

I'm currently restoring my dad's old car, which recently he gave me as my first car. It's an old 1980 Fiat 147 that has been with us since about two years after I was born. It's a lovely little car. Even if I can buy a brand new one, that Fiat is a car that I don't want to let go anytime soon. And it has it wind wings! lol I may have a bias towards old cars, but I just can't find modern cars as exciting as old cars.

mod-ibility too. it's easier to mod old cars than new cars as we would be afraid to break some stupid electronic parts that may stop the whole car from starting

Yea..... old cars are really fun to mod because old sports cars we're cheap and you can buy like a suitable wing,carbon fibre parts,bodykits and really useful engine upgrades,also the amount of mod-ibility of a car can also describe on what the owner did to make his car to a dream car Now,Modern sports cars/supercars are just annoyingly expensive(Way more expensive than a house/mansion) And it's either you can't customize it or you're scared to customize it because it has too much electronics,it has a hybrid electric motor,also it's because there's also nothing to mod anymore because most sports cars are already carbon-fibered with a bit of plastic/fiberglass and their engines are already producing lots of HP,the saddest thing of all is that you can't customize it to fit your style or describing yourself.

Some people mod cars not because they want/need to have the fastest car on the block but rather just because they enjoy being able to make their car unique and feeling the satisfaction of making something more capable on the road. If this wasn't true then we wouldn't see people who do performance mods on cars like the Ford Festiva and Volvo 240

A VQ37VHR is a highly computerized engine but, it's very easily mod-ible and it has a sweet intake note and exhaust note.

I also hate how quiet new cars are, not because of the quietness itself but because you have to listen to the annying tire noise. I'd much rather listen to the engine sound.

HID and LED lighting on vehicles needs serious regulation, they're blindingly bright, which is a hazard ironically. And people who equip them for vanity need their asses kicked so hard.

There is nothing wrong with LED HID lights, Nothing what so ever if its orignal from factory. The problem is the people that installs kits thats not made for that car at all, halogen projectors/reflectors for example is not made for LED lights, theyre made just for halogen. Problem is also Drivers that buys cheapest option car with manual light height adjustment, they just have to point them way to high, then we also got the fuckers that dont put their light stalk into auto... So DRL`s r on at night and tailights r off... Whole point with DRL`s is to blend drivers during daylight, low beams does not workt he same way (to u that think low beams work the same way as DRL`s r dumb)

Boost is good, displacement is better, having both is the best.

One really small thing I loved were the old way to put down windows with the crank type thing

The scent of authenticity and craftsmanship... My father restored a 1967 Ford Galaxie 500, the smell of all the hard work and pride put into the car made me feel at home. Nowadays new cars smell like nothing more than a hotel suite....

Free space in the engine bay. Enough space for a turbo, or enough space to pull out your alternator. Have you ever checked out the engine bay of a modern car? You have to disassemble the entire damn car to get to your battery!

In my opinion modern cars have too many electronic systems which cannot be disabled. I'm aware of the fact they are there for our safety, but those things are really spoiling driving experience. I remember when my grandfather used to have an Alfa Romeo 155 and (as a child) just sitting in the passenger seat felt so much better than actually driving some of today cars :'(

I wish there was a company out there that made cars like old ones. Simple, don't have sensors everywhere, open engine bay for easy maintenance, don't have creature comforts that break down all the time, made of real metal that's harder to dent and crack, analogue dashboards, engineered for durability and longevity, etc

My family have a collection of historic cars and military vehicles. It's so refreshing and a throwback to drive a 50 year old car that doesn't insult your intelligence every 5 seconds when you are driving - It leaves you alone to get on with it lol. The smell of old leather and woodwork was wonderful! No moulded plastic in sight. Times were simpler. Having said that, for example, some older cars didn't have power steering, and the fuel efficiency compared to modern cars were dire. You could see your fuel gauge heading to zero very quickly indeed at 20-25mpg, among other things! Great video, made me chuckle, and it's all so true :)

Lifespan!!! I am 30 years old got my deivers license in 2003. My first car a. 1985 vw jetta i bought off of my father. I still have it. Since then i have had a few other vehicles. The vw is not my only vehicles but none of them will die after my jetta. They will all die before it does. At the moment the odometer is a hair over 800,000 miles ( i live in the usa im not quite sure what that would be converted into kilometers for my neighbors over the Atlantic) any way over 800,000 miles over the years just basic maintenance repairs and still running strong at this rate i do see it easily living to see 1 million miles. I highly doubt with all of this electronic bullcrap in todays vehicles around the globe any of them will last that long.

Safety on newer cars is very much improved, but there is something about old cars that just draws me in. I'm currently learning to drive (ish) and stepping into the old '99 Ibiza is so different from any new car. You get 3 pedals, a stick, and two gauges. Nothing is done for you except ABS. It's much more raw and immersive than having the car do everything for you. Add low maintenance costs and a handbrake that isn't limited to pushing a button. This and the Honda Concerto that my mom had are really, really enjoyable to drive.

Totally agree with the true exhaust note. Why would I need fake noise in my speakers? What were they thinking? Forget the glowing neon, that's the most "ricest" thing ever.

vdochev I was bothered when I heard Harley tinkered with their exhausts to produce a distinctive sound, as I think an exhaust's primary job should be to get the gas out as efficient as possible. Imagine my horror when I realized that manufacturers were actually using the radio to create exhaust noise. Surely people have gone mad.

For me it's the engine noise, you didn't need a sports exhaust to make it sound good. Also you can feel the road as you drive, I can't stand the way modern cars feel so isolated. No modern car is half as fun as my 1972 triumph spitfire.

My daily driver is a Jaguar Stype. Classic. Dead quiet. Comfortable. Pure style. And corners like nothing else quite undramatically if pushed. Love it! It’s a bit pampered but never lets me down. ❤️

Chevrolet PU was the easiest,with your fingers pull two pins the whole assembly would come out,then you twist the bulb free and install new one no tools,2008 they changed it not at all easy backwards they went

I can't say i miss some of those since i'm not even a driver for a moments, and wasn't alive when most of the cars shown in the video, but what i can say straight: What i absolutely hate and despice is the screens in car's dashboards. Cars these days will outdate in a few years, unlike any other car 20-30+ years before.

The glory days. I agree the old cars are best to rely on.

I'll drop in a few here. -Diversity, especially of engines. It used to be, there were a great variety of engines for a great variety of purposes. And within each type of engine, there were infinite variations. GMC's giant V6 engines (they used 351ci/5.8L and possibly larger in light trucks, 478ci/7.8L in medium trucks), the 215ci Buick/Oldsmobile/Pontiac (later Rover) V8, and the V12 BMWs of the 1980s and 1990s are infinitely more interesting to me than any number of 1.6L and 2.0L turbo fours. -Visually-appealing body styles like coupes and convertibles. And station wagons. Ugly chopped-off hatchbacks serve a practical purpose in Europe and Japan where space is at a premium, but to condemn the wide-open expanses of the US, Canada, and Australia to the same automotive fate is just cruel. -Cable-actuated throttle. -Engines you can see. I was at a car show recently where someone had a (most likely stock) Mercedes-Benz... CL600, I think it was? They had the hood up, but I don't know why they bothered; I just saw a vast expanse of stupid plastic. Apparently, there was a twin-turbo V12 hiding in there somewhere, but I never saw it. -Thin, simple steering wheels. First came the airbags to make the centers fat, then came the buttons, then the rims bulked up. Annoyingly, U.S. regulations forbid replacing an airbag-equipped steering wheel with an airbag-less racing wheel, not that everyone cares. -Unique car culture in different places. When I see someone who isn't Japanese call mountain pass racing "touge", it makes me want to scream. Unique car cultures do still survive but if you read too many car-culture blogs it starts to look like everywhere is getting overwritten by some kind of heavily Japan-based new world order of car culture. Similarly, seeing a stanced S15 referred to as "USDM-inspired" just hurts.

1:24 On the contrary, I like how on older cars, you heard the indicator very clearly. On a newer car I drive today, the indicator sound is so quite, it's easy to forget it's on. I also like that the engine start sound was pronounced, unlike most cars today

Most fun car I've owned was a 2002 Alfa Romeo 147 T Spark I named "Little Red", bought the car cheap secondhand and first day pulling into work everyone came out to see what roaring sound was reverberating off the building as I changed down a bit too early. What a fun little car was, sounded like a racing car, turned on a five pence, absolute joy to the drive, so simple mechanically and the reputation for unreliability is definitely undeserved.

Modern cars usally have smaller windows than old cars so they are more difficult to see out of. Today they make fragile cars you can´t work on yourself due to electronics, they don´t last and cost a fortune to get fixed. In the past they made solid cars that lasted a long time and was easy to work on yourself. And nothing removes your attention from the traffic more than having a computer screen in your car which you have to look at to operate. The old style knobs and levers you could operate without looking at them so you kept focus on the traffic. I stay with old cars for as long as possible.

That is exactly why I ignore the car salesperson bragging about all the latest "hands-free" stuff and look for the 10-12 cheapest cars in the lot. Those tend to have more switches and buttons so I don't have to pull over, turn on my hazard lights and spend 30 seconds searching for one measly function hidden in the touch screen menu.

Absolutely. Was shopping for a new car for a few years and was appalled by the much lower visibility due to small windows and huge pillars. Of course a reversing camera is standard, you can't see out of the rear window at all! Blindspots the size of your ex wife's arguments. The bumper on my old car has taken knocks that would have left craters in a modern car. The paint is thinner, door panels are thinner, glass is thinner unless you buy something expensive. And turning circle! Don't get me started on how a modern hatchback has a much larger circle than a thirty year old midsize sedan.

The poor visibility of a lot of new cars is easily the #1 thing I have against them. I can deal with electronics, but the bad visibility is just annoying. It is why they need all of these radar assistance systems and backup cameras in cars these days, with the high waistlines and small windows you hardly have any idea of what is around you without them.

I have 2 Nissans, 1 is a 2005 Altima 3.5, is nice, has a classic 5 speed automatic gearbox; the 2nd is a 2012 Maxima, I love it! power is enough (at least for me 290 hp/261 lb-ft), easy, reliable cheap ('till now), good ilumination by nigth (specially in the Max). The stereo is easy and comfortable because every knob is not too sensitive by touch, never distract my sigth from the road, good braking, safe and elegant.

Old cars use to come with a user's manual that practically showed you how to fix your car. Now they just explain the purpose of all the buttons inside and give you numbers or suggestions about who to call in case you get a flat tire.

Ugh, so true. What's worse is they seem to be removing jacks and spare tires from cars more often. I was VERY relieved when I peeked under my car's trunk floor cover and saw a jack and tire.

+Thorbjørn Madsen Try to stay on topic. Modern cars are obviously safer, no one is trying to argue that. We're talking specifically about headlights which on modern cars might be better for the driver but everyone else coming towards them gets dazzled. It might only be to a minor degree but it's still less safe than the old incandescent headlights.

The cars featured there would do that as a bare minimum its not uncommon for them to do double that mileage, you can still see them being used as Taxis in some of the poorer regions in the mediterarian they are tough cars to kill just like Corollas.

Don't freak out from it, it's shit, that's the only reason why it should not be used... Better yet, it's like an automatic, an imbecile badge...

I can only applause a guy who shows so many TVRs in a short film. Well done, good Sir. I have older cars (a Tif as well) and I do not text in them because I have to keep them on the road. Because I am driving; I am not driven by a modern car.

As an engineer: The old reliable cars are an statistical oddity, today's cars are more reliable in general. But you will only remember the ones that are still here and you don't see the ones that will keep working later until much later.

Ch1Frequency I am engineer too....mechanical engineer ....I can c the dif. in reliability obviously.....sorry but u cant even compare but u r right in some aspects.Not all cars lasted I will give examples of some cars that still relatively expensive here in Baghdad : a 1990 300SE mercedes benz costs between 7000-15000$ A 1991-1995 5th series BMW costs between 5000-11000$

Even the old ones which lasted a long time, like Mercedes, Volvos, etc., still tended to have lots of other issues, it's just that the main components were really sturdy.

Tell you what i miss about old cars is the headlights in the late 80s and 90s. In the uk they had a feature when you turned them onto sidelights the dipped halogen beam would come on and dim to 20% of its power. A lot of people drove around towns at night with these lights selected and they looked really soothing and nice with a dark orange halogen tint to them. Think it was called dim-dip or dip-dim.
