I adore your painting! Sweet and simple. I'm a beginner going on 5 years. I don't like a lot of what I "paint" but I keep trying! I will be watching you now that I've found you!❤

@@JohnGifford47 I wasn't totally clear on what color/colors you used for the tree leaves. Can you tell me? Also, what are some examples of a light red, paint which you suggested for this painting?

@@JohnGifford47 Hi John, I finished "In the Depth of winter." It was more challenging for me than the 10 minute snow scene that you narrated, but in the end, my painting is adequate in my opinion, which is amazing! I'll look for another narrated video of yours now. Thanks again!

I love the way you do snow scenes - they are so simple but so effective. It never fails to amaze me how you can just seem to randomly put a few strokes of greyish blue on the paper and it immedaitely brings out form of the snow shadows

Hi Colin thanks for your kind comment. As you will see I have a several snow scenes as they are popular. I like to use just a few colours , Cobalt Blue, Light Red and some brown maybe Burnt Umber . The blue with a little red gives the super grey for shadows. Are you going to try the paintings. Get the paints out and have a go . Good Luck

@@JohnGifford47 Hi, Yes, I am busy copying your other snow scenes to try to learn over how to place snow shadows and their form but I am struggling to make them as true to life as you do. They just seem like rough lines across the snow (even when I soften the edges off). Have you any suggestions for how to decide where in the snow to place them and how to decide what shape they should be? Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

@@JohnGifford47 Thank you John, I’ve had fun with this! Disappointed that I didn’t get quite the same result as you as I didn’t have Cobalt blue or light red but I improvised. Looking forward to practising a few more times then moving on to your other videos. I’m hooked, thank you again for the tutorial.

Ho to make shadow colour . I use mainly cobalt blue with a little bit of Light Red. Start with the cobalt blue and gradually add some light red until you get the lovely blue / grey colour. Hope this helps .
