10 Life-Changing Lessons from Letting Go by David Hawkins

FIVE WORDS THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE: You are not your feelings. If you look at human life, we see that it’s essentially one long elaborate struggle to escape. Escape our fears, inner feelings, conflict, suffering, etc. People explain it as “the human condition” even. What’s the method for doing this? Going over that technique and 10 Big ideas from Letting Go - the Pathway to Surrender by David R. Hawkins.

NOTES:
STOP TRYING TO CHANGE THOUGHTS:
when you hear the word “surrender” or “letting go” what comes up? Ask me that 5 years ago early 20s I would have said “DEFEAT!” or “GIVING UP!” - toxic narrative. Exhausting. Random. There’s peace in letting go/surrendering. Knowing which battles to choose in life - can’t fight them all. Can’t FIGURE everything out! The Point: Stop trying to change thoughts. You have 60k per day.
Real root is the feeling. Go here.
REAL ROOT IS FEELINGS:
Research showing thoughts aren’t stored in the mind - they are categorized. Like a file on the computer. Categorized under FEELINGS. Thousands/millions of thoughts can be REPLACED by a single emotion “Emotions are a record of the past” -- Emotions are more Primitive in brain - thoughts are NEWER, so less priority.
SUPPRESSION // REPRESSION
SUPPRESSION: Consciously done.
REPRESSION: Subconsciously done.
Repression is DEEPER - usually too much guilt/shame around event to deal with consciously.
Stuff it down. The root of patterns we have in relationships, friendships, business, self-talk, money, family, etc.
EXPRESSION
Pressure valve to release a little inner pressure -- goes back to repressing and surpassing more
“Isn’t it GOOOD to express feelings?” - sometimes! But can be SELFISH.
i.e. friend who was dating a manipulative woman. ALWAYS needing to “have a talk” - just her way of PROJECTING onto him all responsibility of a relationship.
When we LET GO - immediately feel better. AND make better decisions. No one does best work under pressure or anxiety. Drop the weights. Freedom. Measure: Breathing, pulse, blood pressure, muscle tension, etc all improve! First is to have a willingness to experience it. LET it come up
Sit for a while. See what comes up.
Focus on the EMOTION not the thought loop. Not who caused this. Not why do i feel this way. Just WHAT does it feel like right now. (i.e. Anger, Guilt, Shame, Stress, Grief, Doubt, Lonely, Bored, etc)
Look for resistance. If you’re thinking “I hate this” that’s the resistance coming up need to also become aware of this. Trap!
Limiting beliefs around Letting Go
- We only deserve things through hard work, sacrifice, effort
- Suffering is beneficial and good for us
- We don’t get anything for nothing
- Things that are very simple aren’t worth much.

Best book I've ever read. It's on Audible so I would have heard it well over 20 times. The fear, anger and other habitual emotions have all been "let go" permanently by over 90% since I started: "feeling the fear as a feeling, but try not to think about it, and invite the feeling to stay in the body....as in don't resist it the feeling". Another analogy I share with kids is: "It's like a FART....you can feel the pressure in you, and when you can you let it go quietly, without a big drama. If you are going through an afternoon of farting you just keep letting it out. SO FART YOUR FEAR AWAY!

Trust me when I say this book is one of the best things that can ever happen to you. I've been reading self help books since I was 14 and most ideas dont stick forever. You know how it goes. This book is very different almost as if it was written by God. It knows you too well. I feel this book is the "answer" to life's problems. It's amazing.

This is so interesting that you mention about God... Because this book come into my life as an answer of my prays. I was struggling with reaction from childhood trauma and sometime they are so strong that I get overwhelm and sometimes dont know what solution to find anymore. And in this moment I pray to God and say: here, God, I let myself in your hand and please, find a solution for me because I dont know what I can do more to get ride of so much pain... In the morning I pray exactly with this words, repeting and repeting same request to God and in the afternoon I found the title of this book in a comment of a video from youtube. Wich was the chances to find this comment?! Well, I took it directly as the answer of God after order it and start to read it. One more detail of this conviction, I feel God didint give me just the solution of a single problem but he give me the tool for a lifestyle changing. That how amazing God is! Wish all the best to all of you, dear people!

In terms of claiming other people's baggage, Pastor Andy Stanley had a great response: "Oh no, what are you going to do?" Otherwise, they offload it onto you and make you responsible for it. Then, you dance around trying to solve their problem while they (1) do nothing about it; and (2) reject any and all solutions that you proffer. AA calls it stayin in your own lane. If you become brutally honest about everything in your own life, you will discover that most of what you worry about is in someone else's lane.

One thing this video helped me realise that I have struggled with, is that "Letting go" is not a step in a practice or an action that you take. It's the result of the practice. I often found myself trying too hard to let go or telling myself "okay now let go".. then looking back like "did I let go properly?" haha If it was that simple it wouldn't need a book like Hawkin's written. So my reflections are that you may not let go fully first time around when you practice, but with each practice you're with the emotion you will start to feel your strength of letting go.. grow. Keen to hear others thoughts on this..

I love ur vids. So well done. Great summaries, excellent visuals (tho u cut off the chart a bit and it was blurry here n there), i love seeing inside the books, love ur personal relation to the book content, ur honesty and openness. I am working on a pathway for people to let go of depression and its weird how closely Hawkins book parallels my work. I had not read nor heard of him before. I lived with deep shame, guilt, repression, grief from the age of 7 from being molested and my moms guilting and shaming of me for it (!) even tho i was an innocent child... then anger at her continued poor choices for me. I was suicidal, lost, isolated, lonely... so miserable and blamed myself. Then 2 kind souls came into my life and broke that scar shell that encased me. They saw and loved me as i am and it was an awakening for me. Leading me to processing the pain and fear, loss, grief, shame, anger... and i am now being myself. The light, joyful, always kind, loving and peaceful energy intrinsic to our essence. And anyone can feel that. Its belief. Go inward, process and release these stuck feelings and u will soar into the ether. Its magical 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💫💫💫
