10 Levels Of THALL
Музыка
Thall is one of my favorite genres, with bands like Vildhjarta/Humanity's Last Breath/Reflectiuons etc. So it's time for me to whip out my 8 string guitar, play some low-tuned Thall-y riffs and go through the (IMO) different levels of Thall, featuring lots of Drop E riffage (as well as possibly lower than that...). Hope you like it!

Vildhjarta play on 7 strings and they quite literally coined the term "Thall". Funnily enough, Meshuggah (godfathers of djent) absolutely do use 8 strings though. Number of strings doesn't really matter though, Buster uses a baritone 6 for HLB, it's all in how you use it.

Are you happy with the stock pickups? I have a super old legator and I'm debating on changing the pickups or the tuners. The tuners are so sloppy and jumpy. I have way better guitars but I want to make my old legator kinda of a project guitar. My only issue with it is its so old that its only 26.5 scale. I wish it was 27 inch scale. 7 string. I got it when the company was only 1 or 2 years old.

2 questions here... 1) At what level of playing could one play this sort of stuff? I do not play, but manage a band and my guitar player doesn't care for this style. I personally do. I love how this sounds but I do not see a lot of guitar virtuoso people dipping into the style often. I actually have heard a lot of guitar teachers talking negatively about the style and technique but I would love all perspectives on that. Is there a reason for that? At what level of ability could one attempt this? 2) When you do the computer stuff; I did watch the video where you explain how you set this up. My question is, could this be considered machine learning? At what level of programming is the computer doing this? I would think there is a difference between an AI actually arranging sounds or it just being more random generating coding than anything. Just curious. I find the computer stuff so damn fascinating. And because I do not play or read music I was curious about the level of talent one has to have to play in this style. Thanks, Dennis and fantastic work, man. I can only imagine the workshops that could be generated here with these concepts.
@DennisMartenssonOfficial
2 жыл бұрын
1) I'd say this style of music is.... Mostly easy. I mean, certain songs have challenging passenges though. It's hard to put a difficulty rating on an entire genre. But the stuff I play in the video is fairly easy, at least. (: 2) It is not machine learning, but procedural generation. A collection of handcrafted algorithms, essentially. Thanks a lot for the kind words!
@mineofilms
2 жыл бұрын
@@DennisMartenssonOfficial Right on. I will have to look up "procedural generation" to gain some more understanding. I might have 25 years in IT but some of this stuff is like jumping from basic algebra to quantum theory. Thanks for breaking that down for me. I wanted this prospective so I can understand this better from the typical 5 string guitar god style. I do not see a lot of those players talking about this style much and I feel like as far as metal goes, this is where the sound is going. It's comparing Dokken to say Within The Ruins or After the Burial. The gap wasn't so wide back in the Nu Metal days; where the 80s rockers were into the style but few transitioned into it. I am seeing the same thing here with those types of guitar players. I get why some do not want to change their sound and style but metal sort of demands that the sound must evolve, even if that means the level of difficulty goes up/down whenever it sees fit. That is sort of my feelings on that. Trying to keep it brief. I remember 80s bands would talk about Sevendust/Bullet for My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold being the next big wave and they were. But you do not see these bands talk about the newer wave of Djent much or even the bands that came after it. Its almost like Djent is in its own thing and other genres just sort of shrug and move onto something else. IDK... Sorry for the long comment.
