    💯 My dude! If you can sweep, you can shred on all strings. But if you can shred on all strings, sweeping is next level. A lot of “shredders” aren’t super great at sweeping. Not that there’s anything wrong with that of course. 🤘

    For me sweep picking is easy and alternate picking is difficult specifically when you have to move around the freds. This is all because I started learning sweep picking before learning properly alternate picking( i used to downstroke everything) and I saw alot of songs with sweep picking solos and fills so I practice it everyday very slow till I got up to normal tempo

    IMO shredding on 6 strings comes before having the grasp of sweep picking. Wouldn't call 5 string sweep picking exactly "getting into sweep picking" either. Anyways, good playing!

    I don't I don't think the number of strings you sweep really makes it more difficult, more the transition from one sweep to the next is really where it gets tricky, that or putting sweeps in funny places on the guitar

  • @eliasaltman4439

    @eliasaltman4439

    3 жыл бұрын

    Depends on the speed. After about a year of playing I could do 5 string sweeps, but pretty slowly and managed to incorporate them into a song. 3 years later and I can now play them at a decent speed but for sure not John Petrucci or Rusty Cooley level fast

  • @joshuabryan9285

    @joshuabryan9285

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@eliasaltman4439 my dude, a slow sweep isn't really a sweep, it's just an arpeggio voiced on single strings, if it's slow you can play unevenly from string to string as long as the tempo is right, the difficulty in a basic sweep is making a smooth motion with the right hand and having the left hand precisely in sync, done properly, a sweep should remove your "speed limit" so you should be able to go just as fast as your heroes on a single sweep; the spot where it really gets tricky though is changing from sweep arpeggio 1 to sweep arpeggio 2, most sweeps are triplets or quintuplets, and transitioning without a pause means reworking the pattern mid sweep and staying in the proper time; try using a d major/minor shape three string sweep pattern and sweeping up every arpeggio in a major scale without stopping the sweep and staying in proper time, it requires a much higher level of dexterity than a single five string, six string or even seven string sweep

I’m actually surprised that you didn’t include something more on the bluesy side, because a lot of metal artists use bluesy stuff in their solos *cough* Kirk Hammett *cough* (I still love him tho, he inspired me to play)

    99% of guitarists never alternate pick as cleanly as level 2 most well-known guitarists can’t play as clean as levels 1 and 2 It’s like having randy rhoads out here telling u that the bottom 2 rungs of the guitar solo ladder are pentatonic licks and alternate picking before making the pentatonic scale somehow sound exotic and then picking back and forth like a god Not exactly demoralizing but if someone can alternate pick as good as your level 2 then they are well beyond level 2 unless their practice routine is really one sided

    That's some interesting input Shane, thanks for sharing that! The way I approached this video was thinking about my personal journey and how I developed so far, hence the different levels and the structure of the video. But you are definitely right about the technique aspect, it is also very challenging for me to perform the earlier levels with that focus on clean execution/rhythm/... so I absolutely get the point!

I'm having fun with doom and black metal. don't need a lot of technical skill for them genres; just need the vibes and tones.

    You. Are. Good!! And the tab is a wonderful addition. I used to play with the electric guitar (yes, I can't say I was playing the guitar, as it didn't really know what I was doing) when I was a teenager, but life took over. This made me want to find the closest guitar teacher and start building up the skills. And somehow for me 2 seems easier than 1, but I used to have a thing for alternate picking. It would just come natural to me for some reason and tried to see how fast I can do it. :D

    Dude 9 is so sick. That tap lick at the very end was the hottest burn of all this fire you shred out. Oooh and the work on your forearms is fkn stellar!! Idk what level I'm at man but that was sick! Maybe somewhere between 5 and 8, but much much sloppier haha

    I just stumbled into this at 1am. I am saving this video and using for practice. This simple 3 minute video can do more for the average player than 10's of hours of paid lessons. Thank you.

    Amazing video dude, such professional production quality - insane! I've got one question: How do you achieve your guitar tone? Like what hard-/software are you using? Any amp-sims or something similar? Have a good one dude!
