My first 6 skeins of handspun were all different sheep breeds because I wanted to see what I liked, I used those to make a Nightshift Shawl. It was so fun!

I would highly recommend the Juniper Cowl by Toni Lipsey as a crochet option for handspun. It is very forgiving for thick-and-thin yarn and is meant to use lots of color.

I love knitting with my handspun too and often use my handspun as the contrast colour in colourwork especially where the colourwork is in the yoke, perfect for one special skein. I have recently knitted the Stonecrop cardi by Andrea Mowry and used a commercial yarn for the main colour and handspun as the colourwork.

Thank you so much for this video! I'm not a spinner, but I've been gifted a bunch of beautiful handspun by beloved spinners and I want to choose projects that will do those beauties justice!

Andrea Mowry's Shifty sweater (I think there's also a cowl and cardigan) is ideal for handspun! The textured mosaic pattern hides every slub and inconsistency, and it's really easy to combine skeins!

I’m making the Dathan Pullover from Kate Davies with all my mini skeins of TDF 2024! 20 grams of mini skeins , 21 in total must be enough to make the pullover. Nice one for leftover yarns too!

Awesome suggestions. I have been working through my angora and love blending it with Merino, spinning them into 2 ply and knitting them into gloves. I really want to try the gloves you posted, they look so interesting. Sometimes its hard to spin when its 112 outside 😂 I long for winter.

These are such thoughtful ideas Kaci, you clearly know your stuff. 🎉. I really appreciate you! ❤ IMHO Try the new KFO sweater with the unusual ribbing. (DRK Everyday is fine but familiar.).

I see that you have quite a few of Andrea Mowry’s patterns listed, but one that I have knit from my handspun is the weekender. I used a combination of a dyed bamboo and locally grown grey RambouilletX wool to spin. I’m currently working on her Everyday Sweater, but am using commercial yarn. I have on my potential to-do list the Recalibrate and just recently discovered Layla by Elizabeth Smith.

Great suggestions! I knit up 2x Maine Squeeze shawls with a handspun/ millspun combo. That was fun and used up some very early handspun. Also used handspun in a Spark Cardigan. So many options, so little time 😊

I’m spinning for the pressed flowers pullover right now. The whole thing. I am halfway through my contrast and almost 2/3 through the main, which is a natural merino yak silk. That is, unless I need more yarn, which is why I bought spare fiber.

Hi Kaci, I have made a few things with my handspun. The St Catherine’s cardigan by Kate Davies, the nightshift shawl by Andrea mowry,, the boronia cardigan by ambah obrien and I used handspun for the colour work on my bifurca vest by Teti Lutsak. Love all these ideas! Thanks xx

Thank you so much, I purchased some beautiful hand spun yarn and have been agonizing over what to make with it because it has to be the right pattern and something special. I’d never considered adding ‘store bought’ yarn with it but that might be a prefect solution because there’s only 223m. The patterns you’ve shared are very inspiring.

I knitted this free pattern "Tom's Crossed Cowl by Melissa Beach" using my second handspun. I wanted to still see the stitches but it also gave easy texture. I picked the needle size that worked best with my gauge swatch. When I was running low on yarn, it was time for the finishing ribbing/cast-off.

Some of Stephen West's shawls might be nice. The Botanic shawl, Stony Stream and Spiraling Cables all use a solid and a colour-changing yarn. But I can't spin, so I might be wrong about this!

For a single skein I think the Musselburgh is great, especially if you aren't 100% certain about the gauge you will get. I think most people already know about it, but all sizes and guages cast on the same amount, and your first inch of knitting becomes the gauge swatch which you then use combined with your head circumference to calculate how many more increases to do.

I have a free crochet shawl pattern on ravelry named Cakes Two to Tango. It’s fairly easy, but perfect for two colourways of yarn coming from fingering to DK. People usually use all kinds of colour changing yarn cakes from all kinds of brands, so I think it would be perfect for a handspun!

There are so many options for handspun, especially when using.a tonal or solid to offset it. I am working on the. Alder sweater and I think it would be another option for handspun, with a contrasting solid.
