    My chinchillas are not nearly as cooperative. They just want to run and climb.

    Happy new year! And I love chinchillas :D about guinea pigs, they are born with fur and eyes open and they can walk too. It takes three months for gestation for piggies. Not that far

    I'm so glad that the UK banned fur farming, I watched an absolutely horrible video by Peta showing how they kept and worst of all killed. I cried so badly, was absolutely sobbing.

    Hi! I am maby getting two chinchillas and i was wondering if its best to have to females or to males in the same cage? Good video BTW

    Hi , I always prefer to keep females together , I have many female groups together, in my experience once a pair or group of females have bonded they are less likely to lose their bond and fight. I have kept males together in the past aswell and I have a couple of male only groups together now but I do find that with males every now and again they will completely lose their bond and may start fighting. However the bonding process for males and females is the same, some chinchillas get along and some don't, it really depends on their individual personalities.

    Can a Sapphire male be bred with a female violet since they both carry recessive genes?

  • @AllysAnimalAntics

    @AllysAnimalAntics

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes the offspring would all be standard grey but they would all be carriers of both violet and sapphire gene, which is called blue diamond. So all the kits would be standard grey blue diamond carriers.

    @@AllysAnimalAntics I've been studying breeding. I only want maybe 6 babies a year. I have a breeding chart & mutation combination chart. I'm going to Pedigree all babies. More studying to do but very small scale. I love the Angoras. Here in the US they are $1000 to $1500 each. Thank u for answering my question.🐾

    Hey, I need your advice. One of my chinchillas keeps barking at me whenever I get near the cage, this only started today and I’ve had them for a Quite a while. He definitely isn’t protecting my female because he doesn’t care if I touch her and he doesn’t get increasingly angry if I open the cage so I’m not sure if it’s territorial but everything is the same as before he is just acting really weird. Do you think I need to take him to the vet or something? He is usually the opposite of this behaviour.

    It could be territorial, how old is he? Is he okay with you when he is outside the cage

    @@AllysAnimalAntics I’m not sure of his age since he is a rescue but he has a 2 year old son. He isn’t too fond of being held but he doesn’t mind and he has never bitten anybody or shown any sign of aggression before.

    @@sweetdreamz9282 has anything changed in the area around his cage? Sometimes unfamiliar sounds or sights can cause a chinchilla to bark. Also if a female near by is in season that can sometimes cause a male to be more vocal. It can be really hard to determin why a chinchilla is barking but if none of his surroundings have changed and it seems really out of character for him it may be worth just taking him to the vet for a quick check up make sure that there is nothing medical causing his behaviour to change. Most of the time though barking is nothing to be worried about and is normally just driven by instinct.

    @@AllysAnimalAntics the only change is that I’ve gone back to school, I’m not sure if that would impact his behaviour though so it’s probably something else you said.

    I would monitor him, make sure he's eating and drinking and that he's not losing weight. It could just be that a slight change has unsettled him causing him to bark more .

    Here's a weird question, sorry, do the males hiccup after "mating" with stuffed toys?

  • @AllysAnimalAntics

    @AllysAnimalAntics

    3 жыл бұрын

    Good question 🙂 I don't recall my chinchilla Basil ever hiccupping after he humped all my soft toys , so I am going to say no but I suppose it is possible . Mine usually only hiccup after successfully mating, there is a lot of unsuccessful attempts when the male is inexperienced, if it hasn't been successful they normally don't hiccup , it's very strange.

    Hey I was just wondering does the colour of their fur affect their lifespan? I've been told that grey chinchillas live shorter lives compared to other colours, is this true? I can't find anything online about it, I've just been told about it 😔

  • @AllysAnimalAntics

    @AllysAnimalAntics

    3 жыл бұрын

    No this is completely untrue colour doesn't affect their lifespan it's more to do with the genetics of the individual chinchillas. If anything standard greys tend to be the healthiest chinchillas out there because they are like the building blocks for all the mutations and tend to be stronger. But it obviously does depend on how they have been bred, and if unhealthy chinchillas have not been bred together. Standard greys are the backbone of any good breeders herd because good quality standards can improve and strengthen the offspring, this is why good breeders breed recessive coloured chinchillas back with standards or standard carriers as it strengthens the offspring. Some back yard breeders choose to breed recessives with recessives for example blue diamond with blue diamond because all the offspring would be blue diamond and they just see the £ signs. This often results in poor quality and less healthy chinchillas and they tend to be weaker. Sorry got a bit off track there 🤣 so to answer to your question, there is no real difference is all to do with the individual genetics of the chinchillas and whether good quality chinchillas have been bred together.

    He's ear was punctured at birth by the mum when the mum was grooming him. It's quite common for the mum's to accidentally damage their kits ears during child birth or shortly after. Their ears are really delicate and if the mum grooms too hard or has trouble pulling the babies out during childbirth this can result in torn or damaged ears.
