Indeed. I always hypothesized that Alfred had a son who died and Bruce was Alfred's second chance at being a good father. Not quite as sensationalist as "Is he the father?", so less catchy for clicks.

Waz Zup it's a better theory then "he is the father" in my opinion and in some of the batman comics and movies we know that Alfred can easily handle himself and is as capable as Bruce, if not better so he most likely fought in a war and suffered from PTSD and mistreated his own child and he sees Bruce as his form of redemption in my opinion.

blackburnz59 That makes mulch more sense, it was never even alluded to that Al was Bruce's biological father in the comics. You're also spot on with Alfred being capable, IIRC he's ex SAS.

There's this one Dark Knight Trilogy theory I heard that was really interesting. In Batman Begins, a lot of the scenes with Batman's origin have a weird coincidence with the scenes where Bruce Wayne is training and traveling the world. So hear me our...TDK ends with Batman disappearing and at the beginning of TDKR, Wayne has been a recluse, but once he comes out to visit people, we see more of Batman. When Batman dies, Wayne disappears. So my theory is...what if Bruce Wayne and Batman are the same person?

That's not true... Bruce Wayne cannot be Batman because of 3 distinctive reasons - first, Bruce Wayne has openly criticized the Batman in the first and second movies of the trilogy. Second, there are many witnesses that would testify Bruce Wayne partying and living a billionaire lifestyle while Batman is fighting crime. For instance, the Dark Knight shows Bruce partying on a cruise while Batman is in China capturing the Asian crime boss who holds Gotham's crime money. How could the same person be on a cruise in Gotham and hunting down a crime lord I'm China at the same time??? And do you honestly think Mr. Wayne is running his empire and living a luxurious life as a billionaire playboy, while dressing up as a bat to fight crime at night? My third reason is quite simple... Harvey Dent claimed to be the Batman in the Dark Knight. Thus, Bruce Wayne and Batman are not of the same person!

Couldn't tell you why, probably something as simple as a comfortable angle to fire a shot into the air without having to torque the body uncomfortably. I DIGRESS. Long story short, he's firing from the pit so as to not look like the sore thumb in the gun salute until it's time to take the pot shot at the podium. But hey, who knows.

Sandy is alive off screen in Grease 2 and is directly mentioned by her cousin as telling him that Frenchie would take care of him. As for Alfred, any compassionate person who raises a child to adulthood will develop paternal love for that child, Alfred is Bruce's guardian and loves him like a son, but that doesn't make him his father.

The theory about The Joker being a soldier makes sense considering the knife he made famous is a boot knife that was commonly used by Airborne soldiers in the past. Since the release of the movie, it's almost impossible to find information on this knife's actual history now and most sources only reference it as the knife The Joker used, but a recorded military history did exist at one point for this knife.

Except it can't "die" due to elements. It's bio material survived frozen in the ice for ages until it was brought up by the first group. So, having it's means of escape destroyed, and knowing that another search party would inevitably come, hibernating (freezing) again until it could acquire a new host would be the logical thing to do.

Casting out demons and or exorcising them is pretty primitive eh? Also if holy water works there are lots of other religious ways you could dispatch them. It also explains why "aliens" would be defeated by a wooden door on someones pantry.

Yeah, you missed something.... MacCready wouldn't just sit back and expect them both to freeze to death after realizing Childs is the thing. Off the edge of the screen, MacCready smiles as he slowly reaches for the flame thrower he still has. That smile is one of victory as he knows he's about to roast the Thing. Thus saving humanity from the creature, even though he knows he'll freeze to death afterwards. Perhaps even knowing that if anyone arrives at the site, they'll find everyone brutally murdered but he himself simply frozen to death with a flame thrower in his hands and a burned up body in front of him. Thus, not only sacrificing his life, but his good name and reputation to save humanity. Being remembered as a man who completely lost his mind, and went on a murderous rampage; killing friends and associates.

I mean, you could go into a lot more detail about possible military connections for the Joker. Like the fact that he knows how to operate (and train other people in the operation of) heavy artillery, with accuracy, even in moving vehicles, his extremely detailed understanding of urban guerrilla warfare as demonstrated in the whole truck transport scene -- including anti-aircraft tactics etc. It would also make sense he might have a lot of acquaintances who are former Arkham patients if he was getting in- or outpatient treatment for PTSD. Especially if the sudden collapse of Arkham's infrastructure caused by the events of the first movie might have meant some patients were released when they shouldn't have been, or went off their meds, or stopped getting much-needed therapy (or started getting therapy from lower-rung employees who weren't qualified to handle the new workload due to shuffling staff around, etc).

  • @jaredjones1752

The best movie theory ever is the theory that THE ROOM is the psychotic delusion of a mentally ill man named Tommy who lives in a halfway house; Mark and Lisa are two people who work there taking care of him and other patients (who he includes as different characters in his delusion). Tommy, being isolated and lonely due to his illness, falls in love with Lisa but she cannot reciprocate (assuming she even wants to) because it would be professionally and morally wrong. So Tommy, like many people with severe mental illness, kills himself. A goofy B-movie suddenly becomes a powerful statement about how American society discards the mentally ill, leaving them to suffer from their conditions out of sight out of mind until they snap and kill themselves and/or others.

As for the the Alfred being Bruce's father theory all I can say is that while its not canon in the comics or movies it is a very realistic depiction of human nature. Like the narrator said, Bruce's father was away while Martha was at home with the butler who happened to be a charming ,smart,British,ex-special forces member Soooo yeah. Not to mention that lonely rich house wives aren't known for being faithful ; )

Saying "his scars could've potentially been given to him in a POW camp" is like saying "his scars could've been given to him by aliens". Anything COULD HAVE happened. Maybe one of the stories he told were true. maybe he was born like that. It's about proof. And there is none. His knife is not military/police issue. it's a normal knife. I have one just like it.

Dear WhatCulture, Slow down. We're not WatchMojo's audience. We're not going to climb all over you if you take a few days to upload a list if it means the list isn't a list we've already seen others do. And if you pick a theme like this, you've only got so many examples that are applicable that it's difficult for you to do a list like this that doesn't rely heavily on entries that folks who've done this one before have already picked. I came into this expecting the one from The Thing, because I've seen this video before by other channels and they picked the "it's gasoline" one as well. That's what happens when there are four Top 10 videos dedicated to a subject that only has about 15 to choose from. So again, for the health and freshness of your content, please slow down a bit. Most of us love you because you're *not* doing what everyone else is doing.

Imaginary axis explains it very very well and has very compelling evidence for this, not to mention I love the idea and always seem to find subtle clues for it throughout all the different versions of the character, even the show Gotham. It's an awesome theory.

Stephen Hirt well there is a guy in the comments who kinda helps that theory by saying something along the lines of it was an illegal operation and the joker was the only one who survived and was taken prisoner and beaten and they carved a smile in his face and the government wanted to erase all traces of him because he took part in an illegal operation and in the months or even years it took for the joker to somehow escape he took a lot of psychological and physical torture and built up an immense hatred for America and when he did escape he went back to Gotham to wreak havoc. Plus it's just a movie anyways so for all I care he could have cut himself shaving as long as the performance is good then I have no problems

For the Thing theory. I have done much research on this theory, but to make it short: Neither of them is the thing. I can write a whole report on it, but let me just give you this: In the script Macready nips from the bottle before Childs even appears, the Thing HAS breath as clearly seen earlier in the movie (the light in the last scene make you think Childs hasn't and the makers addmited that this was done by mistake) and Carpenter had plans for a sequel in which both would have been human. There is a alot more but I will leave it like this now. If you want to know more let me know.

Could be that every time a Bond dies or retires they get a new person to totally take over their life and history, and pretend to be the same person. As for why - to build up his reputation as an unkillable super-spy (could also be why he gives all the bad guys his full name), or to confuse counterintelligence efforts.

Oh, not another "Joker is a vet" list! Look, we have very clear rules about top ten lists that keep us from sinking into complete depravity. I know you're young and you think you can do anything, WhatCulture, but if you're not careful, one day you'll wake up and look in the mirror and you'll realize you've become WatchMojo. Do you want to be WatchMojo?! Do you?! I didn't think so. So listen; we don't recycle one single list item for multiple different lists; I'm going to be charitable and pretend that this was only the second time I've caught you doing this for now. But items can get stretched if you use them over and over again, they can get old, so make sure to use new ones every time you start a new list. Only cheap channels that don't care about quality or the safety of their audience reuse list items. Be safe, stay smart.

Some were good, some were kinda bleh. I liked the James Bond one. But I think the Joker and Alfred ones were terrible, since Joker's specific scars really don't fit with it, and Alfred is just plain not Bruce's real biological father. Alfred is absolutely Bruce's father because he raised him as his own, and that has its own warm fuzzy meaning.

If it wasn't the explosion itself, then holding a scalding piece of shrapnel to have a go at suicide certainly would. All that pain--Losing his comrades, serious mental "scars", burning off his own fingerprints and scarring his own face..He truly is at war with himself...

How about this - Admiral Ozzel in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back was actually a Rebel spy. Instead of being an incompetent Imperial officer, he was really working for the Rebellion. One, he tried to convince Vader that the energy generator seen & reported by the drone was not a sign that the Rebels were on Hoth, but smugglers. Two, he came out of light speed too close to Hoth, alerting the Rebels. I think he was knowingly helping the Rebels.

Along the same lines as the "Sean Connery is James Bond in 'The Rock'" theory, I read somewhere once the theory that in "Unforgiven" Clint Eastwood is playing the same character he played in the "Man With No Name" trilogy (Fistful of Dollars, etc.). He gave up his shootin' and robbin' ways and started a family, but gets drawn back in for one last score, so to speak. Much of his dialogue in "Unforgiven" matches up pretty well with the theory. Not saying it's true, but it's an interesting way to look at that movie.

  • @silphaer5353

I think that in the Matrix, the Zion world is just another layer of the Matrix, but it *was* created by the machines. When the Architect is talking about the problem with 1% of humans rejecting the Matrix, he speaks in a very calm manner about it, as if it's not a problem - As if he's already found a solution. Also, if it was really a struggle between machine and human, why would they rebuild Zion once it was destroyed? He says that the destruction of Zion would lead to the extinction of the human race, but that's just not true. The humans in the Matrix wouldn't be woken up by it. Humans would still be grown in pods by the machines. It would just eliminate the outside threat to the Matrix. I think that the Architect created the Zion world as a second layer of the Matrix so that the 1% of people that rejected the initial layer would wake up into a second layer - Still inside the Matrix - and be naturally satisfied The existence of the war would make them think they had escaped. This would also explain how Neo is able to use his powers outside of the Matrix. How does he do that when his power comes from bending the Matrix? He's not jacked into it, is he? If my theory is right - Yes he is. He's still in the Matrix, and that explains his power in the Zion world. This also clears up the plot hole of "How did Cypher get into the Matrix and back into the Zion world to carry out his plan". Because it's just another layer of the Matrix, the machines would just be able to choose which one he's in. It also clears up the battery plot hole. If it's just an invented struggle, then maybe the machines invented one that didn't quite make sense. The Wachowskis originally intended for the humans just to be the computing power of the Matrix, but the studio thought that audiences wouldn't understand that, what with computers on a large scale being relatively new at the point the film came out, so it was changed. Maybe the battery thing is just invented, and the Wachowskis managed to still have humans as the computing power - Just for a double layered Matrix. There's also the moment in the first film, when Neo wakes up in the pod, and a machine appears and looks at him, then just goes away without alerting any other machines, or putting him back in, or killing him or anything. Why would it do that? Because it doesn't matter because it's a virtual struggle. Finally, at the end of the last film, when humanity and the machines reach a peace, Morpheus says "Is this real?". Why would the Wachowskis specifically make Morpheus, the one who has been most loyal to the prophecy of the one, in that moment of victory, question the reality of it? They wouldn't, unless there wasn't some significance to it. Morpheus is also the name of an Ancient Greek God of dreams and Nebuchadnezzar was the name of a Babylonian king in the Bible who was plagued by dreams, perhaps these imply that Morpheus is constantly in a dream - Or a virtual reality. Anyway, that's my theory, and I think it's neat and holds a lot of water.
