10 Gigabit Networking at Home for $275 USD! - TPLink TL-SX105
Ғылым және технология
In this video I bought a TPLink TL-SX105 10GbE switch for a few network upgrades. This is a pretty vloggy off the cuff look at this new 10GbE switch.

Nice little piece of gear! Thanks for your interest in Linux, it's great to see tech channels like yours promoting it. Can't wait to see what's coming on your new channel !! Keep up the great work.
I was looking at the Asustor 2.5Gbe 5 port switch but this video changed my mind to consider this model. Love the way how the whole video is produced, well done!
When I worked in IT here in the US, tp-link was our go-to solutions.
Great video fams. Networking stuff doesn't mean much to me but you always make it interesting to watch
Wow this actually is worth buying
more networking content !! complete network idiota here lol !! really enjoyed learning from a pro !
Excited for the new channel!

Fantastic video fams, I loved and I think I might need to invest in one of these
My issue has always been not having enough 10Gbe ports and finding a reasonable 10GbE switch with more than 2 ports - I already have a ASUS 10gbe switch and a QNAP 2.5 GbE and have slowly been moving away from 1gb switches and gear, ive also been disappointed with Thunderbolt 3 transfer speeds. I was considering the QNAP Qhora 10Gbe router but again limited 10gbe ports. The TPLink TL-SX105 satisfies those concerns and if needed i can move the asus switch or remove it, in fact i can remove all other switches and probably save electricity $$
Do they have a rack mount version of the switch? I’d even be ok with a mounting kit and bolts to the rack and has a slot for the switch.
Quick question, how is the durability and heat? I have been reading reviews that it gets very hot and stops working after a certain amount of months 😕
Not enough vent holes for passive cooling. I opted to buy the TRENDnet TEG-S750 5-Port 10GbE Switch instead which has a lot more holes on the sides for passive cooling.
Use velcro to mount it. Easy to use and flexible.
I'm reading a lot of negative feedback of the terrible fan noise, how is keeping up? Ah yours is 5 ports, 8 port has a fan
Oh snap, 10G Nick pimping his 10G switch!
Thanks for the review . Unfortunately, doesn't seem to be available in the U.S. At least couldn't find it on Amazon and couple other popular online sellers.
Thanks for bringing this product to my attention the problem with 10gig is that it was really designed for the data center. So vendors will put tons of SFP+ ports on there devices in a data center configuration that's great because I can connect with fiber, copper, or dac. However, what if I just want RJ45 that's where the problem comes in not many vendors make 10gig with just RJ45 and if they do it's very expensive.
@samal3196

That's the beauty of sfp+ man, you can just stick an rj45 sfp+ module in there! I think in general 10g-baset isn't advised due to the higher power requirements.

I've had my eye on this. Just ran Cat6 in my walls and would love a 10Gb switch. I only wish it had some adapter plates for a rack. Maybe I'll spring for the 8-port.

Yeah I reckon if you want to rackmount wait for the 8 port. It's called the TP-SX1008 if you're keen to look it up. I think it releases at the end of June/Start of July.

Top of the morning Mate... Where did you purchase this product? Just contacted TPLINK, and the item is not yet released.
I have one of these and it rocks!
Pretty sure TP-Link are the best in this area. Especially if you consider $$$ to performance. I am sure there are more professional ones out there but more expensive.
it runs bloody hot!
Kernel control yeaah!!
Would love to know if this can pass vlan traffic. I know dumb switches generally don't, but there are some that do. I'm looking at the unifi XG but that only has 4 ports, ideally I need 5, but the vlan traffic is something I would like to know.
@GearSeekers

No VLAN traffic will pass through. We switched our 10GbE stuff the Unifi XG's a few months ago
You ever looked at Qnap? I guess this video is over a year old, but I admittedly needed a bit different of a solution, similar price point though, managed 2x 10gbE(both SFP and rj45), with 8 2.5gb rj45 ports and a com port. They've been pushing into higher speed network devices a fair bit lately with reasonable pricing, they also have a SoHo 10gbe router(all in one wireless, etc.) with some neat features as well. edit: Just wanted to add, my switch is the QSW-M2108-2C, it does have active cooling but it is a very quiet fan nearly any PC fan would overpower it in noise...but in a completely silent room you can hear it, albeit still quite quiet.

For those who want a dum simple 10G switch, I guess is ok, however, you have the Unifi switch flex XG 10G fully managed for 300USD that is a much better solution.

So now you can fully utilize your 10 gig NIC, Nick. (sorry, I am still waiting for the pun 😂 ) Spira, Nautilus and Nibelheim? So the servers are named after Final Fantasy locations. What about the workstations, are they named after famous skaters, like Mullen or Hawk? 😅 About the "secret": is that where the NVME only server will be introduced? $500 AU. ouch.. 10GB is still a premium, an upgrade I will make oneday.. not bothering with 2.5 or 5gb, they are just stopgaps as far as im concerned.
Don't buy the 8port version for home use, they get crazy noisy. Get the 5port fan-less version if noise is a factor and you don't need the extra ports.

328 million Population vs 25 million kinda obvious why you have more viewers from the US. but when you advertise being Aussie like is on your About page and twitter etc... i kinda expected content for Australians otherwise why promote being an Aussie? If Australians cannot even get content for Australia from Australian youtubers who tf are we to go to for Aussie tech reviews? As for not watching the video i googled the model number before watching as i was excited to see what appeared to be a cheap 10G switch based on the title to be met with disappointment. Kinda my fault for expecting an Australian youtuber to have AUD prices in the title if you chose to have any price in a title. Anyway not here to debate or argue, have a good one.
