In today's video I'm sharing 10 foods (I said 9 at first but remembered a 10th at the end lol!) that I no longer buy from the grocery store. Not that there is anythinggg wrong about shopping from the grocery store - we still do every week. But there are ways to source more quality food OR make something yourself at home with quality ingredients that will cost you less than the store. Making more food homemade & shopping directly from farmers has been a long journey for me and one that I'm always working towards being better with. There's no need to rush or feel you MUST do this, but fi you want to - take it one food at a time! Baby steps in the right direction will make a major impact over time :) If you enjoy this video, please share it with someone else you think may enjoy it too! xx Becca

Thank you for this!! xx
Girl, I just made my own granola last week. I asked myself the same question- why did I buy granola in the store??? Never again! I want to learn more about raw milk now. I’ll definitely give that podcast a listen.
Yes love the way you educate in your videos. Taking it step by step is really the best way to go. Thanks for this video❤

Becca I think you’re so knowledgeable and trustworthy and genuinely just great at sharing content like this! It’s so interesting and helpful! Also random side note, I was assuming for some reason butter would be on your list! Maybe just bc it’s typically in the “milk, bread, eggs, butter” standard grocery list 😂
Love this video and highly align with your thoughts. I try to shop with local farm stands and farmers as much as possible. Farmers markets are my fave.

Yesss I love supporting local farmers! They work so hard and they need us!
This is something I’ve been working towards so I loved to hear your list. I also do not buy various sugars such as brown sugar or powdered sugar. It can all be made from regular cane sugar and is so nice to simplify my pantry this way.

I would love to watch a video on your favorite kitchen appliances like the grain mill, Instapot etc for making your own foods! Like some scratch food essentials🤗
I appreciate this! I’m wondering where you get wheat berries or other grains to grind in the mill?
I absolutely LOVE this video so much!!!!! If you think of more, I’d LOVE to hear more or more toxic products/items you no longer buy!

Love this video! Totally off topic but where do you get your basic tshirts? I love your simple, classic style. I’m always on the hunt for a some quality shirts that look nice and wear well while I’m working around the house. Yours looks super comfy but also very put together! Thanks in advance!

I have shared everything but the granola here on my channel! I'll need to get that into a future video :) I have a video on my weekly sourdough sandwich bread, how to make sauerkraut, and if you watch my instant pot video you'll see how to make the others! :)
Such an inspiration! I made my own sourdough starter today and pure vanilla extract. Can't wait to bake with those!! I have my own granola recipe, I have to triple the batch for my mom and my mom-in-law haha!!

Hello, thank you for this video. Can you please link the farm in Maryland you were referring to 🤗
I love this video!! I am starting to make my own granola. I enjoy homemade sauerkraut I think I might give it a shot. I don’t like sweet tasting sauerkraut. And home made mayonnaise is my preferred as well since we don’t use much of it. A cup at a time is great!!

Yes a cup at a time seems to be plenty for us too, so it really is so easy to whip up
Great Video.
Great options. Another one we don’t buy anymore is pickles. So easy to make your own especially with garden cucumbers.

Ah yes! Something I want to learn how to master!
I’d also love what I eat in a week videos; just a quick clip of what you’re eating for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks each day of the week. Or quick last minute meals that you make when you don’t feel like cooking where some people would eat out, what do you make when you’re exhausted and short 😊on time

Please share your exact recipes please esp for mayo!
What is your fave mayo recipe, please?
I don’t see any links for farmers
I have a question in regard to what you eat when you are pregnant. I’ve seen controversy on whether or not you can eat raw milk, kefir, or kombucha while pregnant. What are your thoughts? I believe all of those are so beneficial, and I’d love to have the best nutrition while pregnant, but I also don’t want to risk it if it is dangerous while pregnant! Thanks!
I looked for the mayo recipe and didn’t see it. Can you provide a link?
As a fellow dietitian, I loveeeeeeeddd this! Keep them coming!

Aw yay!!! Love having fellow RDs watch :) :) Thank you!!
no water or liquid added to the sauerkraut?
I highly recommend having chickens too - love our girls. I make my own granola every week - so easy and delicious. I've made my own yogurt, but it just doesn't come out as creamy and thick as store bought...
@BeccaBristow
10 ай бұрын
I know it's never as creamy! That's the only downside. Store bought yogurt always has gums added to it which is most likely why. I wonder if adding a little guar gum at home would make a big difference!
About the chickens... I believe its important to add that they are perfect at recycling. They can eat a ton of your organic waste from the kitchen and are so helpful with reducing waste.

YES! Easy composting!!
I don't buy any of these either! 🙌 Your raw milk...do you buy it with the cream on it, or has the cream been skimmed? I have a jersey milk cow, so I'm always interested in other people's experiences with raw milk. 😁

Our family buys raw milk - cream in. Sometimes I personally skim the cream before consuming to use in a recipe or to save for my coffee. But typically I just give the jug a little shake every time before I pour a glass to mix it all up again.

So jealous of your milk cow!!! Someday I would love to have one. We buy it with the cream on top :) yum!
Hi Becca! Love this video! Did you personally drink raw milk while pregnant? I'm gathering info to make an informed decision myself. Thanks!

Please do not drink unpasteurized dairy while pregnant (or give it to your children). It can kill you.

What did your path to becoming a RD look like? I’m interested to do the same!
@BeccaBristow
10 ай бұрын
The pretty standard path I'd say! Went to undergrad to study nutrition then did my dietetic internship immediately after. Also jumped right into post-grad at that time too and after a few years (went to school only at night) I got my masters in nutrition education. Worked in the field (both clinical & nutrition counseling with clients) for a few years than quit to work for myself full time in 2016 :)
S we hat is your stand on being vegan? I’m not vegan but lately I have been feeling very guilty eating animals considering that they are being suffering prior to being killed I can live without beef, pork but chicken , fish , eggs and cheese is very hard to give up
@BeccaBristow
10 ай бұрын
Personally would never do it for nutrition reasons. It can work for some but most people will become nutrient deficient over time. Also I very much enjoy consuming animal products and have zero desire to ever give them up lol I hear you though, and this is EXACTLY why I purchase animal products directly from farmers who are transparent about their operations & I know have humane practices.
